I'll be back to playing and rating in about 20 minutes, rest assured I will work my way through every game.

Rated yours! the upgrade system made me wanted to play more!

here's mine: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/719481 , thanks!

Submitted

A few things I noticed:

  • When the mirror reflects and turns the player into a baby, you just disappear and keep playing the walking sound, the level should really restart automatically
  • If you miss the mirror in the bronze door room because you didn't throw far enough, it despawns and you have no choice but to restart because the rocks don't come back each time you leave a door
  • Some enemies are already shooting at you before you're even in view

Its a pretty cool game, I like the graphics and the sound effects work but it does have some common 'FPS sins' when it comes to AI behaviour that needs to be ironed out

Wow, Thanks for the detailed review!

Cool game man, it was a little tricky trying to remember all the rooms the first time around but after that it starts to become second nature and you can just focus on the ones you keep forgetting.

I don't really have a lot of feedback, nothing jumped out that I think could be improved on and it was fun to play.

Try it out! I'll try yours :)

Hey man, what am I meant to do on the first level? I assumed that I was supposed to rewind time while standing on the box to give above but I just go through the object and if I rewind while not on it then it falls to the ground. Lemme know what I'm doing wrong and I'll give it another play.

Hey man! For that level you stand on the first crate and rewind but you need to keep the mouse on the crate while going up, the second crate u rewind towards you so u can jump on it and jump onto the platform with the door, I haven't seen this issue before but for that first craet its just stand on it and reverse up :)

Submitted

That's so weird, I went back into the game to record my screen and show you but it worked this time around, instead it just didnt drain the rewind bar lol I definitely haven't done anything different between the two plays and I guessed that was exactly what I needed to do

Submitted (1 edit)

I reloaded a third time and got a recording of some bugs such as the rewind mechanic moving my player causing the mouse to disconnect from the rewinding object, going through the object, infinite rewind etc
https://webmshare.com/yjDKW

Just had a watch, haven't seen that issue before hmmm have you got this on windowed mode?

Submitted

nope this is full screen with default launch settings on windows 10

Really weird lol I seriously don't know what it could be as I have not seen this error from anyone else or myself. Sorry about that!

Submitted

Sorry man but I can't really give you proper feedback.  There's 3 problems with the jump that's making it so I cant even clear the first jump:

  • It instant teleports me up and I've fallen below the platform again before I have time to react with strafing
  • sometimes it instantly teleports me further away from where I initially jumped
  • 90% of the time that I press the jump button, it won't actually jump so I can't hold up and left to get up either as ill strafe under on all those times where it doesn't actually jump

Cheack out this Music Puzzle game we created called Get In Sync!!
https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/724598

Submitted (1 edit)

That's a pretty cool game! I'd recommend removing a few of the early levels as its just the same thing over and over, I almost called it a day thinking it doesn't change but luckily I stuck around. I threw in the towel at 21 as it seemed to loop back through the same stuff but in the other direction.

Just needs a bit more variety if you plan to continue developing and try to make the sound it emits to be more core to the music.

Also I found a bug (I presume it wasn't intentional), as you're just checking if circle x is in the right position when the top bar reaches the icon, the player can tap the rewind key immediately after its registered and get two yes's for the price of one.

Submitted

Thank you soo much for playing it! I totally understand your point. I added extra levels just to make sure players of all ages can grasp the mechanic and wont have difficulty later on... If you ever get the time, I would love to hear your take on the levels beyond 30...thats where I started tweaking up the difficulty and challenge... I will surely reduce some levels that might make the experience bland...

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

30+ levels is a big commitment in a game jam with 2k submissions as most people will play your game for a few minutes, you can see from this thread how long its taking me to go through everyone when I give 10-15 minutes at a time so I definitely think you should introduce things earlier on. The mechanic is simple enough that most people should grasp it right away and the introduction of an additional rewind doesn't change the core idea of the game so I don't think players need time to adjust to how they play the game again.

That's just one mans opinion though.

Pretty cool game, I got a little annoyed at the shrink ray as I kept accidentally picking it up and couldn't figure out how to drop it except using it on the object I had already shrunk. I accidentally went into the game rather than tutorial and had to alt f4 as there was no return to menu screen.

I like the interpretation of rewind being applied to rewinding the city to its previous state, would have loved to have a sourcefort style rebuild system but that's a lot to ask for a 1 week jam.

I had a lot of fun bugging out the game, if you stand on a rock while picking it up then you can fly around on it like silversurfer haha

Rewind Cassettes to make Bridges in a challenging platformer!

Please rate and I will rate back as soon as I can get to spend time on your game! (Feedback HUGELY appreciated!)

haha the old pencil in the cassette trick, I love that little flashback to the past, I think were at the point now where some gamers aren't gonna understand the struggles of us oldies.

The rewind mechanic to create 'crossable platforms' was a well thought out idea and I liked the visuals of it flailing around, the overall art work could do with some iterations but its a short jam game so I understand the struggles of creating art work as a programmer.

The levels could do with some redesign as well, I really dislike when jumps are made almost 'pixel perfect' due to the fact that if I hit my head on the platform above then I will probably fall down the gap and die like this jump here:

and this:

It felt quite brutal to have jumps like this one where I lose lives testing whether its a run and fall or a jump onto (after I fall walk onto the below, I took the screenshot 1 platform early in case I died twice lol), if I were going to create a choice like that then I'd probably put a life pickup on the next part to compensate the player for that.

Because of these bump your head platform jumps, I struggled to get to level 2 after 15 minutes so I'm not sure what else you had after that but I liked your take on the game jam theme a lot.

Oh and the character felt good to control.

Submitted

Thank you very much for the constructive feedback. I am currently working on the updated builds for after the Jam and taking all notes into consideration. The info I have gained through this experience is really priceless and you really honor my by dedicating your time and giving me your thoughts.

if I were going to create a choice like that then I'd probably put a life pickup on the next part to compensate the player for that.

This is actually one feature I have ready in code but didn't get a chance to implement before the Jam! I will certainly have those as a reward after extremely difficult parts!

Because of these bump your head platform jumps, I struggled to get to level 2 after 15 minutes so I'm not sure what else you had after that but I liked your take on the game jam theme a lot.

I have actually made two complete levels (7 screens each) but that might be too much for the jam also considering the difficulty. Once you finish the first level, the second one unlocks in the menu and so on... Thank you once again for spending time in my game, my goal through this is only to improve to a point I can make solid game balance/mechanics so comments like yours are like the ultimate "gift"

I am playing through your game very soon and getting back to you with a rating and review!

Another blast from the past! I used to love playing pick-up-sticks but there's no chance kids these days are still playing the old crazes when they get an screens shoved in their face before they've learned to walk.

I would have loved if it was more like the traditional game in a 'surgeon sim' style of precision but I think that would have been a lot of work on the physics side as oppose to point and click and may be too much of an undertaking for a 1 week jam.

There's definitely some bugs to iron out such as:

Based on the camera angle and all others I checked around it, there is no way that blue one should result in a game over but it does and this is a frequent occurrence where sticks look like they are next to each other and not touching but still sends the other one flying.

Which leads me into my next point.... the camera.

I definitely would have focused on the camera a lot more, I don't like this far away view. I want to be able to get in there and rotate around so I don't lose in situations that make me go 'really?' like that blue one.

Despite all that, its a fun little game and I enjoyed playing it. I'm not so sure about it being 'rewind' as oppose to 'pick up' but I'll let that slide if it means I get more digital versions of things I played with in the 90s.

Submitted

Hi, first of all  i really appreciate your detailed feedback, observation and review and yes i agree from all the points that is given and i get your point because this is a truly awesome game from way way way back hahaha and ofcourse you wanted it to be as flawless as possible just like the real physical pick up sticks game.  i like your suggestions about traditional game in a surgeon sim style of precision just thinking about it seems to be a superb idea that every one might really enjoy playing and i agree that this kind of physics game needs a really precise adjustment based on real physics to be fair and more predictable. and then the rewind here is how the sticks go back to the top again. what happen is from the top all the sticks movement is recorded and then it stops recording when no more movement is detected. but i agree again it's hard to memorize those movements. again thank your for your feedback :)

I will give your game the time it needs as well <3

One minute its fairly chilled, the next I have 15 enemies come out of nowhere!

I REALLY struggled with doing anything after the 'did you get the joke yet' area,  it felt like the game was playing me at that point as I was mobbed with enemies and the map was too visually similar for me to catch my bearings and form an exit strategy. I felt like I was the puppet on a string and the game wasn't designed for me to be triumphant but to struggle til my last drop of hp (which I think was the intention).

That pistol needs some serious rework, the recoil is too big and it goes down rather than up, that was quite jarring and make it really hard to use, hard gun or lots of enemies, pick one not both lol

The rewind wasn't that helpful with the amount of enemies as I'd try to create some distance, have more enemies spawn on me, rewind, have the original mobs I was trying to escape proceed to show me the business end.

Cool little game with fun 2.5d graphics, just a little too manic for me compared to the types of games I usually play.

Submitted

Thank you for your detailed review, I appreciate it more than 100 nice game or nice graphics comments. I wanted to make the game have a "your stuck in limbo" feel to it while not making it obvious. The walls are designed to mock the player's character for his actions that let him to this point in the game. So you don't win the game , you just have to survive as long as you can and repeat. This is a game genre I like called "endless runners".

We had some bugs last minutes with the pistol recoil and had to do a quick fix before submitting that's why its not perfect. Rewind mechanics also definitely need some more polishing to help the player survive for longer.

Thank You! for trying Hell Gates me and my team appreciate it <3

Submitted(+1)

Yeah I understand what you were going for and you definitely achieved what you set out for, I just think the enemies need to either take less damage to kill or spawn less rapidly, at least at the very beginning as it went from 0-100mph really fast and my fire rate just wasn't quick enough to deal with it.

Submitted

I will make a note of that , we certainly didn't have too much time as some team members started being afk and I had to cut corners on the wave management system to fill in for their work. Towards the end of the deadline i bumped up the pick up boxes spawns by quite a bit to compensate for the monster spawn rate but i see that wasn't enough.

Submitted

I did notice that a lot of them spawned but it only happened for me in a confined area so once enemies blocked that way off it left me running for my life hoping to find some and getting lost lol

Submitted

I would really appreciate it if everyone that posts could play and rate mine as well, at the moment nearly half the people posting haven't done so and I'm spending 10-15 minutes on each game to give a fair rating and experience what you have created in its entirety.

Holy... that level was tough.

The red squares above are the size of the hitboxes (or maybe they are smaller and the player is wider than his visuals), the furthest right even protrudes into the platform itself which I painfully learned on the 3rd attempt of trying to go that way.

The jump itself requires perfect placement into the center and then strafing when you're half way down the fall which personally I have no problem with as it gives it a little challenge BUT how am I then meant to get back to the start in 5 seconds afterwards other than to try and naviate back down that only just wide enough tunnel and strafe left. That's a lot of challenge and frustration for level 3!

The hitboxes are definitely punishing and the visuals don't convey that it's meant to be a platformer designed to challenge and frustrate so I'm really not sure if this was a conscious choice or not.

After replaying this level 15 times, I would have liked to mute the background music as it was getting a bit repetitive haha

Its hard for me to give detailed feedback as it went from really easy to 'I cant do this' fast, the character felt good to control.

Submitted

I'm just realizing that time and hitboxes are what frustrates people the most, in the future it will be the first thing I fix. 😉

PS: It was designed to challenge gamers, but I didn't expect it to frustrate them.

Submitted

When it comes to platformers there are typically two things I see that frustrate people:

Anything pixel perfect such as jumps and gaps - challenging is fine but don't make a narrow area so tight that the margin for error is a pixel or 2 wider than the player collider

Imperfect controls - There is no such thing from a technical standpoint as code is binary... did the player press jump at this exact moment? no? ok no jumping, BUT that isn't what feels good to the player. Input buffering is a great way to get fluid controls and you can have full control over how strict or lenient it is, here's a good blog point explaining it.

Submitted (2 edits)

Ok I'll try to improve better the hitboxes and thanks for the article!

Submitted

I think it would be better for the game to be also controllable with the WASD, it would solve the "scroll the page" problem and maybe it would fix the jump input buffering.

Submitted

Absolutely, I got tired of typing it in my feedback this game jam but I do not like when I'm forced to use my right hand or arrow keys in games without a rebind option, I haven't quite understood why most people go against this gaming standard so often.

Submitted

I didn't used WASD because i usually play with the arrows, but I now understand that I have to let the player choose how to play.

Submitted

By the way, do you know how to make the page not move when you press up or down the web game?

Submitted

To be honest I don't even know why that's happening in the first place, yours is the only game so far this jam that its happened with. I just went full screen and pretended it didn't happen as I didn't want to blame your game when it could have been the website.

It took me a couple of deaths to realise that the controls are static UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT and not based on the ships forward direction, that was a bit jarring. I have a feeling you're moving the enemy space ships using the Update() function and not offsetting by Time.Deltatime?  I can't actually play the game and this shows you why:

https://webmshare.com/YzAGw

I got bumrushed by 3 enemies while testing the rewind and I'm fairly certain they shouldn't be coming towards me while I'm in that state.

Your projectiles are also not shooting from the correct point, I am facing forward but its shooting backwards:

I love the visuals but I can't submit a rating for that alone so I haven't left one.

Submitted

Whoa, that's an unexpected bug! :D Does it happen each time you start the game?

Yeah, I made the controls static as in most of the twin stick shooters.

I'm aware of the projectile bug, it happens when you shoot by clicking on the ship.

Thanks for testing it out!

Submitted

Always, my only guess is you forgot to offset their movements by Time.Deltatime as I can't think of any other logical explanation for why it happens to me but not others.

I don't usually play twin stick shooters, I'm more used to space invader controls on this type of game.

My first game involved me trying to run backwards away from enemies while shooting them and abruptly falling into the water and getting stuck in a freefall :P

Cool little game, I was quite fond of the enemies run animation, reminds me of Malcolm in the Middle episode where Hal becomes a speedwalker:

Sound effects and visually were nice and easy on the eyes and I really liked the pixel cloud skybox, needs an end goal though or some kind of collectable though as it gets repetitive quite quickly.

Submitted

Thank you for the feedback! Sadly i didnt have time for any collectable or goal but i will do that next time. As for the part where you fall in the water and keep falling instead of dying right away was to give the effect of drowning. Glad you liked the walk animation...i wanted something more funny this time. :)

I think I did everything the game had to offer as there was an invisible hitbox stopping me from crossing here?

I tried not to drag and drop during a cutscene but there are no markings of when I'm about to load a new area so that's easier said than done.

A couple of things jumped out at me...

  • You have a y layering problem, this is something that you don't have to actually program to fit as you can combine two functions that are built into unity to combat this:
In edit > project settings > graphics you can use transparency sort axis, if you put y to 1 then the things with a lower y will show under the the things above.
now you might say: but Strodo, that means my player will show under things!
if you go to the inspector for objects with a Sprite Renderer, you can increase the order in layer and it'll show above anything with a lower number, this means you can have one object show below another using its y position but still have it show above any objects on the layers below!
  • You are making the players sprite face the direction of the mouse, if you use a blend tree then it makes animating based on direction really easy! this tutorial isn't perfect as it doesn't helps with idle animation facing the way you were last running or an input buffer so if a diagonal direction was pressed, it'll face whichever directional key was released last however I overcame both of these with a second 'idle' blend tree and an input buffer looking at the previous input 3 frames ago

I hope this makes sense.

I'm not sure if it's a bug or intentional, but you cant jump out of this and have to rewind yourself back to the top:

I loved this level in particular, it told me you know how to design a good puzzle, at first I thought it was bugged/you forgot to add something into it because it actually had a level of complexity to it that you don't usually see :

I really don't have any feedback for you other I love the color pallette, the later few puzzles are well designed, music is pretty good and this has been my favourite game of the jam so far and I don't even play puzzle games.

You definitely need to put in the legwork and get this game played by more people.

Submitted (1 edit)

Thank you, that really means a lot to me! And thanks for pointing out the first thing-I made it so you can't jump out of steep slopes in order to make the level with slopes require rewinding, but in retrospect I probably should have added an exception for when you get stuck between two slopes like that. I did actually find that spot during testing right at the end of the jam but since it wasn't a softlock or anything and it was pretty easy to get out I focused on other things since my time was getting very short at that point.  Thanks for taking the time to play and review it!

Submitted

Sure! https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/722449

This is a cool game but the control scheme is a mess, so many different buttons like [ incorporated rather than making good use of modifiers like ctrl, shift and alt or mouse clicking rather than o which would be much more comfortable for anyone who has played MMOs like WoW, could definitely do with the ability to rebind keys especially as you have keys that aren't supported by every Country.

Music was alright but it was way too loud and no way to turn it down that I could find, if the option does exist then there's a UI design problem that can be improved on, it also doesn't loop properly.

The graphics were simple but clean, I actually liked the aesthetic.

The control scheme is the only reason I stopped playing when I did and thats frustrating. I would actually really like to give this another play with my own keybinds or using modifiers so its all done with my left hand as there's no way I could try to speed run this with the current control system.

Also the gravity reversal can get a little buggy with collision detection, I managed to sink myself into the terrain on a few occasions.

Submitted

I usually play on console, and have almost no experience with platformers on the computer. What would be a better control scheme?

Submitted (1 edit)

The ideal situation with this many controls is to let the player decide however generally you want to go for modifier keys positioned comfortably around WASD like Q, R, Z, X, C, V, F and then use modifiers like R for wall jump or shift + R for wall hop

Submitted

If all of the keys are positioned around WASD, what does the right hand do?

Submitted (2 edits)

Left click to skip through dialogue, the right hand doesn't NEED to do anything. It's pretty common for left hands to control almost every action in a game and the mouse is used to look around/interact with NPC/dialogue. There's been so many games that have had right hand controls so maybe this is more common in other Countries but it definitely isnt the norm when it comes to default keys in most high profile games and its been pretty hellish for me.

Huh. Well, this has been great information that I will definitely take into account when updating. Thank you!

The game is a really good take on the theme and the graphics are brilliant, took me a few tries before I cleared my first level as I got used to things but after that it was smooth sailing.

You should probably mention somewhere that the colors can actually be mixed and matched to create the shape.

Nothing jumped out at me that needs improvement, its just a really good game that I wouldn't have guessed was made in a week long game jam. You're clearing a very talented person.

Tiny nitpick but you forgot to put a space between "next" and "level" :P

Was the yellow square just to throw people off? it's not actually needed for this puzzle

A well designed game with simple but effective graphics, music was pretty bland and reminded me of Ricky & Morty when Jerry is listening to human music (reference here if you haven't watched it) but I didn't turn them off so while repetitive, it wasn't unpleasant.

I got a little stuck at level 7 but I'm not great with puzzle games.

Overall I had fun with this game and I don't really have any feedback outside of the music.

Making me replay my 4 deaths in a row is a bit strange as it just retracts from people actually engaging with your game, I don't know if this was a bug or intentionally designed that way. I'm guessing lives not going below 1 is also a bug?

Although I can see you tried to differentiate between the two character sprites, they are still way too similar and it kept taking a second or two to realise which one I am, a change of colour/saturation would have definitely helped.

Graphics are simple but pleasant, music does it's job but would have liked an option to adjust the volume of it and the game fits the theme well.

Submitted

I'll be sure to check you game out and give it a rating :) this is my first jam too so I'd love to know what you think :D https://reca117.itch.io/wind-drive-rewind

Submitted

It's a fun game but my opinion is that you've made a mistake by building something that involves a car and not having a reverse function and I'll explain why.

I got so annoyed when I kept planting into an object and just having to sit there waiting for time to run out. This turned it from a driving game into a ring location/map memory game so you don't overshoot your mark or hit random objects in the path like lamp posts, a few rings were so close to the turning for the next one that you had very little time to maneuver and line up for tight gaps and if you fudged it then you were stuck staring at your mistake for x seconds.

On the other hand I understand why you DIDN'T include a reverse, the car functions like those toy cars that you used to wind up and let them fly. One idea off the top of my head is that you could have made the key both charge the car and control its direction by having reverse as counter clockwise, I think that's the implementation I would have gone for personally and would have also followed the 'rewind' theme.

Despite that, the graphics and music you have used compliment the game well, the programming itself seems to be pretty solid and its a great first jam submission so good job.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm always looking to improve and I really like your idea. Thanks :D

There honestly needs to be more information or something, I have absolutely no idea what to do with the dog that chases the agent, I've looked around and can't find anything to deal with the dog, there's no interact option on it and I have no weapons as far as I can tell.

You need to have visual clues to help the player understand the developers ideas and motives. Remember that people are playing a lot of games in a game jam and most people will only repeat a game from the very beginning 4 or 5 times max before they move onto the next game.

I really like the graphics that you created, everything is clean, fits together well. I think the perspective of the sidewall starting area sidewalk is too long though compared to the rest of the level.

I'll try your game right now. Thank you for taking time. My game, The Case of the Deviant Detective, will probably take around 10 minutes. The game definitely needs a crosshair or something, its pretty much a necessity for any game that has a gun in it.

I don't understand the endless runner style level being in a 3rd person action game as it just feels out of place and breaks the immersion, the whole time I was wondering why I went from a free moving 3rd person tutorial to this style and which of the two is actually the game I'm going to be playing. It also takes away time that your users could be spending seeing the real open area level that you designed as people won't stick around on your game for very long in a jam, 15 minutes is optimistic unless its very well made or really unique. Also if you are going to make an endless runner style map, create a collider that only the player interacts with to keep them inside the area, don't kill them because they got too close to the edge.

The player models arms are way too long, he can touch his toes with a straight back haha

I liked some of the particle effects you made and the aesthetics of the tutorial level actually had a good atmosphere, a couple of bits looked out of place but it was good overall and the music you selected fit the levels.

This was actually harder than I thought it would be when I first looked, I liked the melancholy music combined with the visuals. The controls felt nice to use and the puzzles were a good level of difficulty.

I am not sure what I was meant to learn at the end though, was it that when he says about getting more screwed to learn about himself, It's implying that hes stuck in an endless loop?

Try RELOOM! - a simple puzzle game combined with some platformer jump n run components.

Check it out!

I really like the visuals albeit maybe a little bit too much post-processing for my eyes lol, music is good and everything is clean. I especially liked the lighting being effected by the boxes I placed.

An absolutely must for any puzzler game is a way to restart quickly, players shouldn't have to jump off a ledge to restart the level.

Were you checking for objects above before allowing jump? the jump kept stopping and starting and the only times it happened was when objects were above me to my left or right.

Submitted

Thanks for playing and for your feedback! I didn`t check for objects above the player to jump, only for the box placing mechanic. You`re right with the restart button.

Not bad, it could do with a bit more variation in all area though.

Sometimes there wouldn't be anything new in the scene and it actually looked like you are standing still which kept messing with me. The music was quite plain and repetitive, I think you could have found a much better track suited to your game with a little looking in the right places as well as a sound effect for your character.

The programming itself was pretty solid, I didnt get any whacky physics going on when being tipped over by ramps etc

You gave everyone here such an insightful feedback. You're such a great person, wow! I will check out yours in the next few days (im on my mobile now) and would also be honored to get constructive criticism :)

Great game, its like INK except its my blood instead :L

I kinda get why you have the character do the first run blind but I think it would help rather than hinder the gameplay if you flashed it on screen and then let people do their first run otherwise it feels like I'm having my time wasted for the hell of it, I could plan a pretty good path just based on the level layout but that's not a perfect system.

Also, if you're going to make the player chain jump combos like this then you should be using an input buffer on controls imo. Otherwise players end up pressing the jump button at what looks like the right time to them and then fall down... this is what people actually mean when they complain about games having 'imprecise controls' even though code is actually TOO precise. The game can still be made hard by having a very short input buffer like 2 frames and feel so much better to control. Its only prominent on wallhopping from left to right and vice versa though so it was manageable.

Visuals are great, the music fits well but can get a bit repetitive after a while and I love the weird little character creature, the blood stains to serve as a visual aid was a really good idea as well

Overall really good job, I had fun playing this (apart from the level above)

P.S if you want to see a working example of input buffering then let me know, I use it in my game to solve a completely different problem with blend tree animation

The game is quite difficult if you plan to use your S key with the ice skating physics, pretty much requires you to either rewind afterwards or use the accelerate key in the other direction if you don't want to be ran over but I'm guessing that's intentional.

One problem to me is that you decrease player velocity while they rewind so if you don't keep pressing your direction keys then you will have to accelerate all over again and will probably get ran over. I would have personally made their speed carry over in this state or even stored their speed during those rewound frames.

I have no idea where Jams stand on copyright and trademark infringement but this game is definitely pushing its luck haha

The environment art is good but the character could use some work, can't say a lot about the music because its the actual BttF music as far as I can tell.

I'd also appreciate it if you could leave some feedback.

Submitted

It's a good idea but it needs more on the execution. At the moment you're missing any music, sound effects and doesn't offer much in changes of environment. I like the gameboy like aesthetics but it definitely needs more player actions, more sprites and some sound as I felt like I was just spending 1-2 minutes pressing a direction key every time.

It's a solid start for what could be a good game.

I really liked this game.

The art was good and I liked the little details added like the devils nose animating when hes annoyed.
Music was ok but I think more focus should be put into finding some truly great tracks rather than ones that sound like 10 second loops, your gameplay is centered around music afterall!
Good execution on the theme and it's only the second rhyme style themed game I've seen so far so it was a welcome break.

I would have preferred to be able to use QWER as my keys so I could play with 1 hand but this may not fit your vision when it comes to handling difficulty.

Submitted (1 edit)

Ooh thanks so much, I really aprettiate your feedback, so glad you liked it. And yes i wanted to create longer and astoning tracks but in order to make it to the dead line i decided to create shorter loops and focuse on adding the difficulties and stuff.

Maybe in a future update i will add a feature to customize the keys :) because you are rigth i've placed it like that to keep up the difficulty jeje

Once again thanks so much for your feedback

oof, that was a tough one to play... my fingers couldn't handle playing that for long.

The players movement is very limited and there were often times an enemy would spawn to my right and two next to each other on my left so even dashing couldn't get me to safety. I'd definitely consider giving the player a bit more movement or a simpler control scheme.

The environment and player art was great, the enemies not so much :P

All the game needs is some nice enemy sprites and a control scheme that are more accessible.

Haha very nice game, I actually played with the idea of reversing the ageing process or devolution to get around as well but didn't think of a good execution for it, you definitely found a good execution.

The pixel art was great although the nurses could do with having limbs as they look like they are all wrapped up in blankets. I liked the music but the volume should have definitely been adjustable as this is a 2 minute implementation.

The gameplay needed a bit more to do as its almost a walking simulator at the moment, I managed to get locked out of the game here as well:

I tried shifting into baby form and holding right to no prevail.

Oh god... not another robot samurai fighting against falling bombs using rewind, so uninspired ;)

Its a cool little game but it definitely seemed like there were problems as the instructions say 'It maintains the relative position (and physic process) with respect to the previous quadrant' but I was definitely losing my relative position on more than one occasion which made the game more difficult.

The pixel art is clean and simple, the overall mechanics are good and well thought out and music is pretty typical of this style of game. Its just the execution (relative position) that needs a little work.

Oh I almost forgot, the aspect ratios need to be adjusted as well, full screen mode shoved the game into the top right of the screen.

Submitted

Hmmm... I know there are some problems when you click outside the quadrants, I'll have to investigate the issue that you mention. And yes, I don't know how to do the think with the aspect ratios :/ That's something I definitely need to learn.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

You already posted before, my feedback was:

Sorry man but I can't really give you proper feedback.  There's 3 problems with the jump that's making it so I cant even clear the first jump:

  • It instant teleports me up and I've fallen below the platform again before I have time to react with strafing
  • sometimes it instantly teleports me further away from where I initially jumped
  • 90% of the time that I press the jump button, it won't actually jump so I can't hold up and left to get up either as ill strafe under on all those times where it doesn't actually jump

Sorry but I'm not really in a position to rate this, I barely understand what pattern I'm expected to pick up on. instinct told me to go 4 and 1 on the first 2 levels but I have no idea why they were correct. the sequence on the 3rd level I was fine with understanding up until it went 8 1 etc then I had no idea what I was looking at.

Already trying yours, have a look at mine!

Holy... I could have really done with a rotational sensitivity option or a closer view as I could not aim for shit! haha

As I started to play I thought to myself 'it would be pretty awesome if terrain was destructible so I could make my own shortcuts and then 1 minute later I was like 'wait, I can do that!' so I really like that feature

The instructions said to press 'R' for rewind but this didn't actually do anything for me, was I meant to collect something in order to use it or 'charge up' in some way? everytime I pressed it I just got a little 'twitch' and that was it whether I pressed or held.

There was no sound so can't really comment on that.

I can't say for certain without testing but I think with a bit of sound, lower rotation sensitivity & speed and a more zoomed in view, this game would be even better. I think the controls let it down as it felt really uncontrollable but that's just my personal preference and maybe others disagree.

I'm gonna copy my comment from your game's page:

This game stressed me out more than it probably should have, lol. I'm never good at these customer management games. But the theming was really nice, and once I got used to the gameplay loop it got  fun to try and optimize it. I do wish that the customers went slower at the beginning, and curse that first customer that keeps on giving me three tapes!
