The game is nice, although the rewind mechanic isnt really needed, the controls are too slipery and the player can go outside of camera. The art style is good, and I havent seen many games with voice over.

Overall, Well done :D

I think most things were already mentioned but I think with some polish the game can be good!

Even i liked the game but all the things are already said by @FelineFriendly

There was no storyboard !

I enjoyed this cool little game! Most of the issues I had have already been said (slippery controls, rewind doesn't really have a purpose, etc.), but one that I didn't see mentioned is that the boxes at the bottom with character art aren't really explained. I had no idea what they were, I figured maybe they were like the characters "disappearing" like the movies, but they seemed to be linked to the items I collected. I wasn't able to finish the game, so maybe I missed something. I did like the idea behind the game though, and I think using Back to the Future is a really cool interpretation of the theme. Great job!

Fun use of the back to the future movies. Controlling the character is not the best, as you pretty much just slide all over the place. If you hit the left arrow even once you just speed right into the car. Also it was hard to tell what to do in general. Definitely some improvements to be made, but I like the concept.

Pros:

  • Audio was great! i laughed at the voice work, but in a good way, it immediately got me in the spirit to play the game!
  • Graphics were great (well i liked them; i thought they fit well with the aesthetic of the movies and took me back to the arcade game style look of the games that were out at the time of the movies) (which i assumed is what you were going for?)

Things to improve on:

  • Marty felt a bit slidey/slippery. I've played a few of these types of games today (dodge upcoming obstacles/move to collect items that fly towards you) and this seems to be the common problem with the controls in all the games I've played. I felt as soon as I pressed back that it almost guaranteed I would get hit by the car (which meant i never really pressed the back-button either, rather just tapped the forward button less).
  • I didn't really understand the purpose of the rewind mechanic; is the purpose to allow you to rewind to pick up things you missed? I feel like the main entertainment factor for games like this is testing reaction time to go up/down to collect/dodge things, and I didn't think the rewind ability enhanced that really, so i found myself not using it much.

But pretty cool overall! I really wanted to put dialogue in my game, but ran out of time, it definitely helped your game out! I'll try to fit it in if I do another jam :)

If you decide to review my game (which I'd very much appreciate, but don't feel obliged to by any means) then feel free to play the WebGL version (which i uploaded too late to be included) here: https://moocow17gmailcom.itch.io/rewind-bullethell-web-version  (I haven't changed a single thing compared to the official jam link, https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/724985, it's just uploaded in WebGL format; so feel free to  play this link and review on the other link to save you from having to download anything).

Things I liked

  • Voice acting is very funny
  • Makes me want to watch the movie
  • Look of the characters

Improvements

  • Marty is too fast, goes off screen too easily
  • Needs some sound to increase the game feel
  • Doc's voice is a bit hard to hear
  • Stop rewind button looks like a D in tutorial section
  • Make it so the character doesn't goes off screen

Bugs

  • Cannot turn back after I press A

It is very good what you managed to complete in a week, I hope you guys will make some quality of life updates to make it more playable. Good game, let me know how mine turned out as well. :D

Been ages since I saw the movies.  Good play on the theme. Loved the visuals.

Never really watched the movies but still managed to understand the game a bit? Really unique graphics and beautiful backgrounds though! Great effort!

Maybe add a bit more explanations. Nonetheless, a great game! be sure to check ours out if you already haven’t :) great work

I am a bit embarrassed to say that I never watched the movies so I don't understand what happens, but I enjoyed it anyways,

Only thing is the acceleration feels a bit too slow (though maybe that's what you were going for), and the maybe also the UI with the actors (I assume) that fills in slowly looks a bit clunky.

And maybe you could add a bit to your explanations, to make them clearer (or maybe it's just because I didn't see the movies).
