An Oceanic Survival Game · By
This game is off to a really amazing start! It's not really like any other survival game I've played, and the only thing I would have against exploration of any sort is that it would make it more similar to Stranded Deep and/or Salt. Having to stay on the raft is the whole point of this game, and I really like that limitation. However, as it is right now, sustainability is reached fairly quickly, and the only reason to build the raft up/out is to have a place to put your stuff, and for appearances. Without a weather system, there's no reason to build sheltered areas. Without food spoilage, it's fairly easy to just hoard veggies and fish. I would like to see some means of deterring the shark, at least temporarily; other people have suggested foundations made of metal, or iron spikes put around the edges, and I like both of those ideas. The player could also leave caught fish tied in the water at the edges of the raft, to give the shark something more interesting than busting up the raft for no reason.
But even with all of those ideas, there's still not an end goal beyond simply surviving as long as possible. Even a "you survived X days" thing like in Don't Starve would be better. Maybe have islands, but since there's no way to steer the raft, have it so that not only are you risking a shark attack by leaving the raft to swim to the island, but put a timer on-screen for the few minutes you have to gather stuff from the island and get back to the raft before it drifts too far out of range to get back safely. Or maybe each day there's a microscopic chance of drifting into sight of a rescue ship or the mainland, like a 0.5-1% chance, just so there IS an end to survive towards. It wouldn't even have to be terribly detailed, maybe the land or ship fades into view and then the game fades to black with "you survived X days and were rescued".
Here are my thoughts:
Ideas:
- Being able to fancy things up after time would be nice. For example the water purifier, it could be used as it is in the beginning of the game, but with time it would be nice to be able to build a better looking or even semi or fully automated water filtering system/device with more materials and/or more complex materials.
- As many people already suggested, more and also usable furniture would make the raft more personalised and would generally help getting more out of the game.
- I would suggest being able to craft a backpack of some sort, so one is able to carry more items.
- I think it would be fun to be able to dive just a little by putting oneself on a rope attached to the raft or so. This could be used as a way to implement new materials in the game like stone, sand, shells, corals and generally stuff that can be found in the ocean. I think it should be a limited option though. If one would be able to dive very deep or too far away from the raft, it would take away the game from the general idea from surviving on a raft, which I really enjoy,
- Having different wheather from time to time would be a nice touch. Rain could force the player to build their grill and water purifier under a roof and seeing higher waves instead of the always flat water could add more diversity.
- It's nice to have a shark buddy around so one doesn't feel too alone on the ocean, however, one could add more animals. Maybe birds in the sky (maybe shootable with a crafted bow) or dolphins who can be seen jumping out of the water from time to time.
- Being able to catch fish with a net
- It always looks like the raft is on a fixed point in the ocean and the incoming stuff is floating by without the raft itself moving across the ocean, I think it would be nice seeing the raft moving as well.
Bug fixes:
- When your raft is big enough the shark sometimes swims in circles and swims through your raft. Not attacking it but unnaturally swimming through the wood.
- The shark can put his head through your walls in order to attack your foundations of the raft, which seems kinda pointless.
- I wonder why repairing something takes more wood than the original building process.
those are IDEAS BAM
I do get that this "adds to the thrill" or whatever, but in the worst case scenario, you should give us a function in the options to make this "feature" optional.
I have been able to build an amazing boat and the game is really fun and addictive, but I wanted to see what's happening to a barrel which has been stuck in the sea for no reason. I knew I was probably going to die but I was expecting to be able to load my last save file.
BUT NO! Apparently NOT!
Seriously, all the best to the dev(s) but this is something that I really didn't enjoy.
Besides that - the game works fantastic and I really like it! Can't wait for more updates! :)
note: the original poster is Xano, I really like this idea so yeah, reposting
"This game is a great step in a the direction of survival gameplay. It's unique, you don't have to spend a lot of time to scavenge stuff, and then spend a lot of time to craft it. Everything comes towards you, and that keeps a flow. You get to reanact that "stranded in the ocean" fear.
Now I understand this is a game in the making. Although the game would be AMAZING with multiplayer--that's not what I want to throw in.
FAULTS OF THE INTRODUCTION -- HAVE MORE LOGICAL EXPLANATIONS.
The start, obviously, lacks in introduction. We just land on a piece of wood. And then stuff flows towards us. OKAY, but how? I'm not suggesting a compelling Oscar worthy story--but it would be nice if we see ourselves trying to survive in the ocean after a shipwreck of some sort. This would also explain the constant flow of supplies for example. I understand this is a game in works, but this can be worked on.
From this concept: Let us assume our player is a survivor of the shipwreck. Why did the ship go down? Again, I'm not suggesting a complicated storyline. But lets say you sunk in some place like the Bermuda Triangle, Somewhat resembling it at least.
SHIPS: In time as we progress, we would see other ships in the horizon. But due to the Bermuda Triangle theme, disaster happens and that other ship goes down. It causes drama and horror with the player, and also gives an excuse to exert more supplies to the player.
MANUALS FOR CRAFTING AND REALISM
The character opening this "How to survive by yourself" manual would explain why the character has a vast understanding of crafting. He/She would open it every time He/She attempts to craft. It would add nicely as a detail. Your call, Devs.
From this concept: As the player progresses, the player will be able to obtain more unique manuals for cooking, weaponry, crafting, and architecture.
SHARK BUDDY -- EVERYBODY LOVES HIM
Please, oh please, add a cutscene of some sort for when the shark enters the waters.--It just appears out of the blue... And not in a menacing way, it just asserts itself in. We should have our player react to it with some voice acting or some music. #LoveForTheShark
I would value and urge you, the Dev's to implement such keen details. It would ensure a staple of glory and care to a game that's already headed to success.
CONCEPTS OF CRISIS -- BOSS BATTLES AND BOOTY FOR HARDCORE PLAYERS.
I recall reading weather changes that will be implemented. Surely this would make the gameplay ooze with more quality as there will be more challenge. What I can add to this is:
When the player reaches a high level of structure on His/Her Raft Structure, possible boss battles could happen. Such as: (Please take with a grain of salt. Perhaps they might be TOO ambitious. )
Using a slingshot to shoot incoming pre-war naval sea-mines.
A giant octopus battle.
A great white shark battle, constantly attacking the raft. (Possible reference to jaws?)
A school of shark immigrating and attacking your raft.
A jellyfish infestation which opts out you even THINKING of entering the water.
A fire caused from lightning.
A cyclone closing in from the horizon, forcing the player to sail a course to avoid it.
EASTER EGGS -- BECAUSE REASONS.
Mermaids...
Sea Lizard Monsters... (Perhaps another boss battle? )
Ghost Ships...
Hallucinogenic ocean fruit... (???)
UFO Wreckage... must I say more?
(NOTE: I am not saying that we should make aliens a part of the game. But it could be cool as hidden stuff. Cue X-Files theme. )
EXPLORATION -- THE ENDLESS HORIZON
Now I know the Dev team already have their inbox full of requests. This being the "multiplayer idea". Maybe it's too much. And it's hard. OK, understandable. The bugs in multiplayer would possibly be a nightmare anyways... But if this game is keen on being single player, why not have the player be able to see some very small islands in the distance, and have the player sail his raft towards it? Maybe he could find some old pirate treasure, a sword possibly.
Ya'll have a pretty sweet game. Awesome work! Cheers. "
I feel like the shark is something that could be improved the most. He is not very scary or powerful and there is only one. Here is my idea for modifications on the shark
Hey Raft Guys Dvoloper............ ummmm anyway just add some more monster and a thing to see or go underwater with craftable masks and more types of fish. Add that sharks can jump and even come on the thing...... XD But add some more vegetable. More weapons. More fruits. More something good. Make the moon large or something. Add durability. Anyways good game keep updating and make a way to play the previous saves on the new version!!!! XD!!!
Been playing this for a while now and I've been enjoying the ability to freely build with the occasional shark attack. I also enjoy the endless sea and that you aren't expected to find land ever just endlessly float in the ocean. It's a fun concept really.
A thought I had was to add in the ability to make doors and a bed that you can sleep in and be able to sit in the chair that is already in the game.
You should add beds and a sort of spectator mode where you cant place down items or anything but where you press a button and you will be abe to fly around sort of like a ghost. This could be used for checking out your work from all angles so you can make shure its perfect or you could use it for cinematic shots.
You should add whales to the game! Have them come around once in a while, and they risk breaching out of the water and smashing into the raft. If they smash the raft it'll take out like 3-5 foundation. You could add an item to deter whales, and you could also kill and harvest them which would take a long time. If you kill the whales you can get a ton of meat, and blubber which can be used as a new crafting item (maybe as bait for the fishing rod or something). Also if the whale carcass is left out for a while it'll attract a lot of sharks that will eventually go away.
first off all something that a lot have said
-beds ,that heal you and obviously change the time off day
also -different gamemods such as sandbox mode with unlimited life and items
-this is kinda like a bug ...but I think items spawn a bit fast...like I go to my nets and I see 51 items in one net(and I have chests full of items)
that's all,thanks
Could you please try to support for mac with future updates, I bought this game because it's one of the rare indie games that actually support mac systems. I only paid money for this game as I thought I would be able to play it. I would really really appreciate it if you could find the time to do this. I'm aware that you only have 1 developer doing this game, but if you can make some assurances that future updates will include mac that would be great. Otherwise I've spent money on a game I can't play. In addition, I don't want to mess with these partition things on my computer to run windows either, as Im sure I'll break something lol.
Thanks:)
Hello, Raft Developer. I very recently started playing this game, and I have to say, I certainly enjoy it! As for my suggestions:
Other than that, it seems pretty fun.
EDIT 1: I'm not sure if it would ruin the whole "being stranded with no help" thing, but maybe add a bit of an RPG element, kinda like Fallout?
My ideas are small additions, but I think we could use:
That last one would just be kinda fun and isn't really an hard-set suggestion.
[Edit]
instead of islands why not have other rafts. The other rafts could have people in them or have the raft as a wreck which you can loot for resources. The rafts with people you can either attack, offer resources or ignore them. If you attack you can loot their raft and attach their raft to your own. If you offer resources you can either trade or befriend them. If you befriend them they will join you, your and their raft will attach. With this the goal of the game will be two things. Unite the rafters all into one raft or conquer the other rafters to become the strongest rafter.
I have tons and tons of suggestions:
- Single Foundations: Give us the chance to build foundations wherever we want, let me have a single foundation float in the middle of nowhere, that could add tons of building opportunities.
- Bait Net: Every time the shark tries to attack your raft, it will attack the bait net instead (it will not take damage). It needs fresh fish (not cooked) to work, can only have one fish at a time.
- Fishing nets: Nets that catch fish and other sea food randomly, similar to current nets.
- Ceilings: This can be added to walls instead of pillars, ceilings are weak, so you won't be able to build something on top of them.
- Fences: A small fence.
- Water Canteen: To hold more water. Instead of carrying 10 tin cans.
- Archs: It allows to build floor on top of it. Size 1x2.
- Doors
- Sea Magnet: (Google it, first image) Allows you to gather scrap from the sea. Make it a like a crane, you use it (E) and comeback later to gather your newly found scrap.
Equipment System
This allows you to carry certain items that enhance certain aspects, it can be expanded and adds a lot more to do, here are some ideas.
- Satchel: Increases your inventory space.
- Hat: You don't need as much water as you used to.
- Belt: Somehow you're less hungry than before.
- Watering Pot: Your palms and vegetables grow faster.
- Sweaty shirt: You stink! The shark doesn't seem to like your smell (Shark attack less often).
- Coal: Your water purifiers and cooking stations work faster.
- Fishy Shirt: Is that a fish in your shirt? (Shark attacks more often).
- Knife: Sometimes you can gather more meat from sharks and fish.
- Rake: Sometimes you can gather more vegetables from your cropplots.
You get the idea. Make the system simple, let us carry 4 items only. that adds strategy and makes it more fun, this items could be make or found, is up to you, dear developers.
I would like to build a garden, like with dirt, and grass, and stuff, maybe even flowers, I would also like a way to make it so the shark can't eat everything, the shark is a threat at the start of the game, but as you go into it, he becomes more of an annoyance, so I don't really see the harm in making a mid-game way to shark proof land, so I propose adding dirt as a resorce, necceary for making tree, and regular plots, and with 100 dirt, or something, you could turn a shark proof raft piece into an island piece, you could also make a composter to turn excess thatch, wood, even food, into more dirt
Hey, I just picked up this game today and I love it, I have a few suggestions.
Walls/Window walls should prevent the shark from jumping onto your foundation.
Give us more ways to deal with the shark, maybe some kind of warning when he's getting close or more noise when he's on the raft, or even some way to stop it like I said above. It can be difficult to manage all of the aspects of food, hunger, collection and watching for the shark at the same time.
Alerts, like I said above, alerts would be nice, sure the water blinks but the food doesn't do anything and if you don't look down there and notice the blinking than you could die and lose a very good world over something as stupid as no water.
Beds would be nice to progress through the night, just more of a vanity.
More challenge, if you are good at managing the shark then the game can get kind of boring.
Different fish (better or worse) fish from fishing, also make fishing a more viable option for food, a player can survive very easily without ever picking up a rod.
Weather, could be vanity but maybe provide some challenge.
Food spoilage could be an interesting mechanic, provides more challenge and you have to actually worry about your food.
You guys are doing an awesome job with the game so far and I'm really excited to see how this game turns out in the future, keep it up
The shark is a good early game advisary, but quickly becomes more of an annoyance then a threat, I think the game would benifit from more threating, less annoying advisaries later in the game, when the raft has suffecently grown. I have two ideas depending on which way you want to stear the game, one is zombies in barrels, a barrel would be floating in the ocean, and if it hits your raft, a zombie will crawl out of it, and start trying to kill you, possibly with some kind of wepon. Another idea is to have a crocadile, or an alligator, come and eat the shark at some point, replacing it, the reptile would be less likely to eat parts of your raft, although it still could, but could decide to climb up on your raft, and come to eat you. either way, more of a threat to you then to your raft.
I disagree that the fact that crocodiles, and alligators are freshwater should matter, it is a game, and they are allowed a certain amount of creative license, as for zombies, while I agree they are very common, especially in the crafting genera, there is a reason they are popular, they are almost always a threat, although usually not an unmanageable one, and they are fun to kill.
Bigger sharks, and squids would, in many ways, be more of the same, they would be a threat in the water, or to the raft, but at this point, either of those would just a boring annoyance, or would fundamentally break the game, we need an enemy that challenges you in a way the shark does not in the mid-game, something that is more a threat to you then the raft, because honestly, your raft is pretty secure at this point, and you don't really want that to change.
As for seals, I think they would be bad because people would not want to kill them, seals are generally seen as cute, and sympathetic, and having to fight them would probably not do the games favors.
yes, but you forget one crucial detail: This is a video game. guess what, metal doesn't normally float on water either, it does in the game though. Why? Because it's a game. wood, barrels, and leaves don't magically come out of the either to drift past a raft being moved in a direction by some unseen force despite there being no evidence of sails either. But in the game they do. Why? Because it is a game. If the developers want to add a crocodile, even though you seem to be floating in the ocean, the developers will add a crocodile to the game. Why? Because it is a game. If you have some comments about the merit of the idea, maybe suggest some possible alternatives, I'd love to here it, if you want to talk about how crocidles are fresh water, despite the fact that that comment has already been made 3 times now, I will say it again. This is a game.
Since I'm at the point (and I'm sure several other people are as well) where getting a palm seed from every coconut is just becoming a waste of inventory and chest space, any chance we could eventually get an option to cook the coconuts? Greatly increase the amount of nourishment (either food, water, or both) at the cost of not getting a seed when eating it?
Items
-Sharkbait, 5 fish, 5 metal, 1 rope, 1 board. thrown into the ocean, distracts the shark for several approaches.
-Sharktrap, 1 sharkbait, 5 nails, only distracts the shark a couple times, but damages it each time.
-Rubber, 1 Shark meat, can be used in more advanced recipes, such as flippers or something like that.
-Flippers, 2 Rubber, allows you to swim as fast as the shark, maybe slows movement on the raft.
-Beds, 4 thatch, 5 boards, 5 nails. this will skip through the night, but may yeild some undesirable results for slacking off.
Game Options
-Difficulty, a peaceful mode with no sharks, easy with one, normal with two, hard with three.
-Volume Sliders, maybe individual one for the shark, the player, ambient, and music.
-music, while i enjoy the realism, the silence is honestly deafening, maybe just some calm music though, maybe more dramatic in the water.
Other Stuff
-A weather cycle, rain would be interesting, maybe being wet in the middle of nowhere isn't the best for your health though.
-NPC rafts, a small chance to see one, will trade materials/food for materials/food (ex. 5 scrap for 3 fish)
-Movement, most likely in the form of wind and sails, change walls into sails, because honestly they don't seem to do anything yet.
Suggestions for additions or changes to the game:
1) Half height walls
2) Taller windows
3) Sharpened stakes to add to outside of raft to repel Sharks
4) Compost heap - used to create soil for Croplots, it's weird that the soil magically appears otherwise
5) Rain collectors (and rain too I guess)
6) Seagulls - steal your food sometimes, and leave guano that can be added to compost heap
7) Flying fish, Scates, Squid and other sea life.
9) Barnacles - grow on foundation, and can be collected to eat
10) Fishing nets - to leave and catch fish, but attract sharks if not emptied often enough
11) Coconuts should be used to grow into coconut palms, not from a separate "palm seed" item. This would be more realistic
12) Thirst and hunger should go up more slowly, especially thirst. A human can survive three days or more without water and a few weeks without food.
13) Pitched roofs, that don't require pillars
14) Sharks that don't swim through foundations
15) Flotsam that doesn't drift through foundations
16) Crouching and sneaking options, similar to Minecraft that prevent you from jumping off ledges
17) Fall damage
19) Kelp & coral
20) Diving option? may be hard to implement, but could be fun to at least be able to dive a little
21) Dredging - would make more sense if heavier flotsam was dredged up from the deeps rather than floating
22) A few more types of item found in barrels but not from other sources, plus it would be good if we could keep the barrels for storage
23) Cook pots - to make more food at once, like a stew or soup that can be taken out with bowls.
24) Walls that can be placed alongside stairs and vice versa.
25) Doors
26) Temperature meter, so sometimes players need to take shelter from the sun, or stay near fires for warmth.
27) Campfires - for warmth, light and basic cooking
28) Abandoned rafts to find and explore
29) NPCs
30) Giant squid!
I'm loving this game and I hope you keep developing it, good luck with your studies.
Hello form me as well - love the game! Here are a couple of suggestions from me:
1) Advanced foods - combination from several of the existing foods. Fullfills more the hunger bar and lets say gives you a speed boost for a certain time or somethign else
2) A cooking pot to cook the above mentioned advanced foods.
3) Bigger water containers - not sure what exactly can it be but its sorely needed.
4) A ladder to go one level up
5) More things to garden - maybe aesthetic, maybe food related. Any or both are ok with me.
6) Railings!
7) Doors - a revolving one and an ordinary one that one that can opened / closed with "E" button.
8) A stand for fishing pole - one leaves the fishing pole and after a while comes back to get the caught fish.
Best regards from me and keep up the amazing work!!!
Hey All
First of all, i love this game! :-) I can´t wait to see what you guys introduce us to next.

-Sorry for the long post.
Ooooh... I have a list. Just some things that I think would be cool to add to the game. I know somethings are probably added now, but I made this list before the 1.05 update.
1. Day & Night Cycle
- A starry night sky would look beautiful.
- Some ocean life is nocturnal.
2. Weather
- Rainstorms with and without thunder and lightning
- Hurricanes(Typhoons, Cyclones)
- Tsunamis
- Clouds
- Wind(should be random like real wind)
- Snow
* Relatively rare and happens closer to the poles, but it is possible
- Makes the player actually need to make a shelter
- Storms, Hurricanes, and Tsunamis have a chance to damage the raft, items, and the player.
- Big waves and strong winds have a chance to steal resources
- Gives those walls a use besides just being decoration
3. Temperature
- Humidity, Hot, Cold; it would make the game more realistic.
- Food(meat) spoils faster in the hot temperature.
- Humidity can cause mold to grow.
* Mold can affect the player's health.
* Mold can affect the integrity of the raft's floors and walls.
- The player would have a chance to become ill.
4. Illnesses
- Its not a real survival game until you worring about your medication
* Eating raw fish would give you food poisoning, being out in the heat to long possibility of heat stroke, etc.
- Would make the game more realisitic
- Adds an extra level of difficulty to the game
5. Medication
- Idulging in medication when you're not sick can cause you to become ill.
* Drugs like advil can thin your blood, Alleve will tear up your intestins, etc.
- Taking the wrong medication for an illness won't make it better.
- The player has a chance to become addicted to drugs or to overdose.
6. More Fish
- We're in the middle of the ocean, there are a lot of different varieties of fish.
* For reference, I recommend Finding Nemo & Finding Dory.
- We don't need to have a million different types of fish.
* Some nocturnal species would be nice for night fishing.
7. Whales & Dolphins
- Dolphins and certain whales could attack the shark(s).
* The dolphins would protect you.
* The whales that attack the shark(s) would then turn around and try to kill you if you're in the water.
- Dolphins could be playful and possibly tamed.
* Once tamed could be trained to bring you resources
- Depending on the type of whale, they could be docile or hostile
- Whales can be hunted for food and resources.
* Sperm whales have a special oil that can be used to make candles
* Blubber can be made into oil
8. More Resources/Materials
- Other Food
* different vegetables/seeds
* other fish
* whale meat
- Sand or Glass(if not craftable)
- Cloth/Fabric & Tarp
9. More Crafting Recipes(for stuff originally in game)
- Reinforced walls, foundation, pilars, & stairs
- Half-walls & Fences(For balconies)
- Roofing
- Ladders (rope ladders, wood ladders, and metal ladders)
- Bridges(rope bridges and wood bridges)
- Edge Spikes(spikes that go around the edge of your raft protecting from enemies.)
- Leather(Shark skin can be made into leather. Who knew?)
- Clothes(shoes, gloves, jackets, bookbags)
- Pillows
- Blankets
- Bow and Arrows
- Glass
- Windows
- Curtains
- knives
- Shark tooth Spears/Arrows
- Shark Cage
* For underwater building or fishing
* Enemies are able to attack the cage
- Underwater Viewing Platform/Window
* Allows you to check on the fish population so you'll know your chances of catching fish each day.
* Allows you to check what enemies or allies you'll have for the day
- Beds
- Chairs
- Table/Counters
- Water Barrel
- Drying Rack
- Salt
- Cured Fish, Smoked Fish, & Dried Fish
- Sushi & Other Food Recipes
- Cooking Pots(The kind you can make soup in)
- Fish/Crustacean Cages
- Bigger Chests
- Fish Storage Barrel/Aquarium
- Doors
- Shades/Shutters for Window Wall
- Lanterns
- Forge
- Gears
- Machinery
10. Whale Crafting Recipes
- Oil
- Lubrication
- Candles
- Soap
- Paint
- Varnish
- Whale Bone Weapons & Tools
11. Predators & Enemies
- Sharks need to be harder
* More sharks appear after so many are killed
- Squids for night enemy(Squids usually hunt at nightf)
- Whale attack!!
* Orcas will attack humans.
* If you attack whales for resources, they will attack back.
12. Nit-picks
- Multi-player/Co-op
* The more players, the higher the shark count and the tougher they are.
* Maybe less food and materials floating by
- Fix the walls so stuff doesn't go through them.
* i.e. An item is rolling for the edge of the raft that has a wall. The wall should then stop the item; the item shouldn't go through the wall.
- Fix the walls so they can be placed around other objects like pillars
- Birds that can be domesticated
* If their big enough, they could bring you stuff
* Can be an egg resource
- Diving for sunken ships would be cool as would finding islands if a story line or a plot is ever introduced to the game.
- Upgrading from a raft to an actual boat
* You'd be able to build a ship if your raft becomes big enough
(a) If the game has or gets a storyline, this could be one of the ways to win the game.
(b) Upgrading to a boat would tell the game to send bigger and tougher enemies at you.
My post was lost, so again. Update Linux and Mac versions and i will donate more. Over 50 days and there is still 1.0.4.
Edit: I see it now, it is in blog - No Linux/Mac support. So I supported Windows game, which I can't play. Great work devs. Keep this information hidden, you will get more money ;-)
Make the shark less darn annoying!
The problem is the shark is a completely silent, noiseless predator, and with an expanding base that might incorporate walls there is so way of predicting if the very floor you're standing on is being mauled by a shark. The shark doesn't feel threatening, it just irritates the player.
A suggestion would be to make a barrier of scrap and nails. This can be crafted fairly cheaply and will provide extra resistance to survive at least 1 shark attack. This can help solve the problem of the build up of scrap I seem to have too. Barriers could be attatched to the sides of foundations, and can make loud denting sounds when a shark is trying to eat it.
Just my thoughts :-)
The game is really awesome so far, kudos to you guys!
I'd love to see challenging late game content like storms, waves, pirates, anything that keeps the game a challenge.
Also islands would be nice, but you would have to leave them again for some reason haha because the game is all about the raft.
And some interesting rare loot that is different from the usual stuff, so that I'm always worried if I miss anything while I'm building. I like that tension.
Way to go, keep it up.
If transportation happens in this game, you're gonna need something to move the raft.
First of all, power.
You need to make engines (scrap + ???) and place them on the edge of your ship so that it can move.
The more things your raft has built on it, the more engines you'll need. (Maybe you can make more efficient engines?)
Then, you need something to drive it. I think a helm would fit. With rope and planks. Place it, and have enough power to move your raft, and you're off!
:3
Add animals you can tame such as seals and small squids. The seals and squid would be tamed with fish. The animals would have an ability. The squid would be able to bring resources from the ocean floor the more squids you have the bigger items you can get. Squid would be able to bring small clumps of sand, scrap metal, rock, coral and other junk. Seals would be able to defend the raft and hunt tuna for you the player to eat.
Also allow the player to get palm oil from palm seeds for something.(I always have a chest full of palm seeds)
So shark just ate one of my foundations with pillar on it. Resulting in loosing foundation itself, pillar, floor, wall and and two palm plants....
Really need to implements some sort of automated defence against shark. For example scrap reinforcement (jaws cannot chew on metal right?) spikes or whatever.
Or something that will prevent shark from destryoing foundation completely so it can be repaired on regular basis wihtout the need of runnning around the raft with spear non stop guarding it.
This game should have day challenges with rewards that'll increase your ability to survive, it should be like a hard mode where you lose all your needs quickly and are forced to survive harder! Maybe a move tool that'll help you move items from one play to another.
love this game thanks for creating it!
Add islands that you drift past but you can make an anchor to anchor your raft to on, get on land and collect resources etc. add new items on the islands like rocks etc. and new animals like boars of some sort
these were mentioned before but bows and arrows aswell as birds as something to shoot at, fire arrows that dont do much damage but scare the sharks enough to get them off in 1 shot, wooden, metal tipped, hook+rope arrows which act as a longer range version of the hook, roped arrows so you can reel in the birds you shoot down
more buildables like spiked platforms that deter sharks from that area, ad the ability to go diving and collect items off the ocean floor around islands, could salvage from wrecked ships etc. and get technology like wiring with a win condition if you make a radio
ability to reinforce platforms and pillars with metal if you want to build floors even higher but with limitation that depends on how large the base platform of the raft is, add a rudder and sails to steer your raft towards wrecks and islands and the ability to make smaller rafts so the main one can be anchored off shore and you take an exploration dingy to islands etc. this would be very useful with multiplayer, also add obstacles to avoid like rocks etc. that damage the raft a lot
and also multiplayer ^ and a difficulty system as 1 shark wont really be that threatening once you have a crossbow or something. a skill tree would be a nice addition and have to level up crafting before you can build anything too complicated, add strength which can increase inventory space and throwing distance, agility for speed and swimming, survival for better metabolism so foods last longer etc.
Once you have a few palm trees, that's really the end of the game. I suggest the final objective is to build a lookout tower (or maybe just build X floors high). Then you might see land from up there. Perhaps then an additional option would appear where you could build a row boat to escape, but not essential.
~My ideas~ :
Simple Ideas :
-Auto-save
-Way to have back your world (like you log in but your inventory is empty , this will get users use chests to retrieve their stuff)
-An small tutorial mode
-Sharks can grab your hook or fishing rod if you throw it close to him
-More animals
Advance Ideas :
-Multiplayer worlds (Private servers)
-Community help in game (other than itch.io)
-Online world submiting (people can see creations from the community , with list from biggest world to more resources)
My thoughts on more content.
I have played thru this game 4 times and I figure there is about 2 to 3 hours of game in its present state. Things I would like to see:
I am enjoying this game so far. I happily donated even though this version is free, I think it is worth spending the money to see what this game could become, it's already enjoyable.
I would like to see:
*Saved games be playable so you can save a state before death and go back to it (or am I experiencing a bug? Right now dying kills my saved game too)
*Dehydration happens too fast. Maybe slow it down in the shade.
*Upgradable food/watwr stations- a way to create more than one tin cans worth of drinkable water at a time. Maybe a way to cook bigger recipies, fish soup, kabobs... something
*Water/food storage barrels
*Food that goes bad when not cooked/salted soon enough
*Harvesting salt from water stations too for salting food
*Feed/bribe the dang shark to bugger off
*Shark detering spikes/defences
*Different modes- easy-med-hard. Where the rate of hunger/thirst slows differently. I love the raft building, but feel frustrated at how much I have to stop and drink, I died so many times because I was enjoying the gameplay of the raft building and planning but forgot about water/food. I think having easy let the player go longer withoit drinking would allow for a more creative mode expirence. I have been playing again and the rate of thirst is actually pretty good for normal/med mode.
*Those nets could catch some fish too
*Making a chair I can't sit in is...well..it is ok for decoration but kills the emersion. Can we have usable furniture. Thatch rugs could satisfy the want to decorate much better than an unusable chair
Thank you Developers for this wonderful expirence so far, I know you have dedicated a lot if time and effort into this game and it really shows. Good job!
Add fuel for cooking stations and water purifiers. You can use thatch (3 seconds) planks (30 seconds) or rope (6 seconds). Also, make it so your raft go over oil spills. You can use tin can to fill up with oil. Also, and cauldrons as an alternative to water purifier. This will be a big cauldron, I'm thinking 1/2m x 1/2m base x 1meter height. It takes 8 tin cans to fill but cooks all at same time. Therefore, I don't have to make 8 different tin cans. Loving the game bwt!
New Items/bots
Birds
What if after you grow a tree it starts to attract birds you can catch them with nets and store them in cages this would allow you to carvers Eggs and Feathers Or kill them for Meat and feathers. Eggs and meat can be used to eat or the meat can be used as Bait ... will return to this idea**. Feathers can be crafted with wood to make darts or with wood and metal to make arrows ( arrows and bow could be used to "hunt" birds in the sky or shoot at shark darts could be used in a blow gun for a simmaler purpose alternitively you could construct dummies and targets for fun.
The Hunt
Once your raft reaches a certain size it becomes easier to just fix damage to your raft than to fight the shark on a 3 strike basis. So to keep the fight alive the hunter could become the hunter. you can active this through trapping defences and hunting. let me break that down.
Building
There is a Huge potential for growth automation and resource management. I love the potato farm and beat farm idea and i think this could be expanded upon through larger patches and irrigation you could build a reservoir and have pipes that drip water to the crops. Also in food you could have hoppers where you put your potatoes and make vodka or introduce Sugar cane and make rum (rum might be more location accurate). Doors would be great as well as the ability to stack column with out having floors between. Fences and or walls. BEDS to sleep through the night. Hearths for athletics and to cook on. Ovens!!! these could be used for potatoes and eggs and Bread. ... Forge made from just a tun of mental. burn wood with metal to melt it down for upgraded EVERYTHING. let me expand on that for you upgraded spear ( 2 hits instead of 3 ) upgraded Harpoon (2 Hits Instead of 3) Reenforced walls and spikes for defence that do not get destroyed from repeated attacks. Bigger chests. Solid walls ( not thatched ). reenforced pillars ( 5x5 support instead for 3x3 ).
UPGRADED HAMMER ( I will refer back to the tech tree later ) with UPGRADED HAMMER you can build more adoptions into your raft such as a self purifying water station this puts a hole in the floor of your raft and rejects light down onto the water with a shiny peace of metal the water gets heated and condensates like before but instead of going into a cup like before can fill a (previously mentioned) reservoir. than used for crops or consumption. you could be able to craft components for a saw mill and a saw ( saw to cut down whole trees that take up a whole spot in your inventory and then you put said logs in the mill that processed for thatch and wood as well as pulp ). New tools (Chisel) for making decorations like statues of you and the shark. and a dredge for getting clay ( dredge could be a wood troff with metal weights on rope that you lower down into water and after a minute pull back up full of sand and clay). The clay than can be fired in the oven to make planters and large water jugs as well as Bricks and ordainments. Sand could be fired for Glass for building a green house and windows. (green house could be used to process bird poop for rare seeds that grow into banana trees and mango trees as well as flowers for the planters you made from clay). all nominating in the final frontier of scuba exploration through the construction of either a crude sub or a breathing apprentice.
Tech Tree
I do NOT think a tech tree is the right fit for this game but rather a graduated crafting system where building one thing inherently lets you build another as I have explain above finally building a forge allowing you to build a upgraded hammer then allowing you to build a whole new set of items this could double of not triple game Play time.
Perhaps in the future when the game gets a bit more advanced you could add a gravity system to the raft, where if you build a couple of trees on the edge of the raft it could capsize.and if you continuously add more and more weight in the center without having the size to support it, the raft would start to sink. and in addition perhaps more refined resources and advanced structures could be added and more advanced stations to produce and refine the resources, perhaps a mulcher to turn excess biological matter (rotting food, fish meat, fruit, plant parts, etc) into fertilizer to keep growing more plants so that you have to put more effort into farming than just "build pot, click seeds on it, profit"
and with the idea of refined resources, perhaps cotton could be added and a weaving station to turn it into cloth which could be used to construct ballasts to hold up your raft and provide more buoyancy letting you put more things on your raft. defenses to protect your raft and advanced structures from additional threats. a soil fertility system where certain plants need certain fertility levels to survive. and each plant harvested removes fertility.
More enemies and disasters, perhaps even include mythical sea monsters in the future. such as fish people that invade your raft. pirate raids, a disaster where temporarily there will be a big pack of sharks around your raft, about 25 - 30 that will leave after a few days but if a higher difficulty is picked there is a chance some of them would stay behind permanently until killed. Typhoons and hurricanes that toss things about, rip your raft apart, and if set to a higher difficulty. even pull the player off the raft and into the ocean.
More weapons and reinforcement options to deal with these disasters. perhaps a way to harvest sulfur and nitre from rotting meat, and charcoal from fires in order to forge archaic gunpowder weaponry that must be unequipped before entering the water or else it will be ruined and can't be used for several days straight for the water to dry. crossbows and metal reinforcement options that increase weight and armor. and ways to armor yourself
A food spoilage system that doesn't just ruin your food and is actually required to get certain items and equipment. and ways to preserve food for storage such as salting, smoking. and turning it into pemmican (essentially balls of smoked dried meat, melted fat, and sometimes dried fruit).
Rare shipwrecks that can float by your raft that you can get important equipment and items from.. and an expensive way to tie them to your raft so you can thoroughly harvest everything they have to offer. such as irreplaceable mechanical items and equipment like dive suits. proper guns that get permanently ruined in water oxygen tanks, harpoons and harpoon guns. possibly wiring and diesel engines as a way to generate power for your raft that are very heavy and get ruined permanently when they get flooded because the raft sunk, or because they were not given proper shelter during a storm and where ruined that way. saw, blow torches, and advanced tools that are required to properly disassemble diesel engines in order to use the parts to repair other ones and hook up wiring throughout your raft. plastics that you can use to storm proof rooms. and when you are finally done with the boat you have tied to your raft. harvest all the delicious metal with a saw or torch. or else it must be let go.
Threats and traps that make shipwrecks chancey encounters rather than floating resource piles. (something had to take away the people) such as mermen (fish people) that have lain a nest on them. rat and carnivorous crab infestations. that can either overpower you and ruin your life on the raft and devour every scrap of food on board. the crew of the vessel that ran out of food, went insane, and turned cannibalistic. exposed wiring and jagged shards of metal that can hurt and kill you that you must either wait to run out of power, cut away, or find a way around to capture the valuable fuel that is powering the wiring.
And last, but not least. Quality of life improvements, plenty of bug fixes, better AI, and even possibly graphical improvements.
can you make a easy mode? there are way too many attacks on the first day and you foget to explore all the features. it is a nice idea, but i can not get a base started. whenever i try it gets eaten by the shark. if you could make an NO SHARK setteing, it would be a more exploration type game, unless it's not meant to be that way.
There isn't any exploration to be done. Currently, the point is to defend your raft from the shark. Not having the shark would make it exceptionally boring (people are already complaining about it being boring :/ ) and there would be no challenge.
Use your hook to get as much wood and scrap as you can, and make a spear, first. Then make your nets.
I do agree, though, that the shark is quite obnoxious at times. I saw someone post something about anti-shark spikes to put on the edges, which I like. I hope the creator incorporates something like that. A while back, I suggested temporary islands, which I also really hope the implement. Everyone seems to want an island, but nobody is suggesting how to avoid it becoming an island survival (except me lul)
If you implement a food rotting system maybe think about a compost barrel that way there is a need for compost put in pots for planting. It can be a required item to build said plots. I love the plots but it would explain where the dirt comes from in game.
Either that or add compost to dirt and yeild twice as much food.
Maybe a sort of "story" where to receive periodic letters in bottles from the ocean? they could arrive in random order and would have to be collected and pieced together to figure the whole story?
this would be a big thing but maybe a way to dive deeper into the ocean? you would have to worry about the shark but could also get cool things like stone from the sea bed or go spear hunting for wild fish in reefs?
Hello, I am Kolby from the FellowGamersStudios.
I saw this game and realized the immense potential in a matter of minutes of playing the game. It provided a task, antagonist, and an almost 100% sandbox realm to enjoy. I recently added some suggestions, one of which was added. (Yeah, it was chests. How in the world did you guess?) Anyways, I would like to give some heads up on the development progress and some personal things that would be fun to see in the game.
1: Improved sky.
Your sky is amazing, it gives a feeling of comfort as you battle a shark and a feeling of wonder and bewilderment as you watch the moon pass over. However, the reflection of the moon and sun when either rises can be easily made better. Currently, it is only showing where the light originates, which is from one point. How you could make it better is have the full-scale moon and sun reflect across the water. Not only that, but your sunrays are very nice looking, but if you look through a slit in, say, a wall or stair, it produces unwanted rays that tend to make it look a little overbearing. To fix this you could make the rays disappear as they enter a certain linear point towards the camera.
2: Full graphical optimization/customization.
One more thing you could do is increase the amount of changeable items in the options GUI. Such things may include: SunRays. Water Quality (already existing), Shadow quality, RayTracing. Those are just some.
3: Explorative arena.
As the game goes on, you get to a point where you have made the biggest raft, defeated the shark many times, and have virtually an infinite amount of resources. Afterwards, you make a new save file and start over again. It would be wise to make a sort of end-goal, or somewhere that you see when you start the game, but must work your way towards. Possibly an inhabited island.
These are just 3 suggestions, and they are all simply gameplay and graphical-wise. Personally, I love the game, and have so many ideas on how you could develop it. But I'm not the developer! Can't wait to see what comes next!
Sincerely,
Kolby Spring, FellowGamersStudios.
Sorry my english guys , ill try to explain my best.. can you guys add something like , whenever the 'materials' are inside the chests you dont need to actually put the "material" inside you inventory to create objects.. is the idea clear ? :) Nice game by the way , im willing to donate something if this can be done :)
Here are a couple things that will make raft (i hope) better
No hate, just my opinion
1.Beds
2. maybe weatherchanges/waterchanges (rain, storm, higher water)
3. clothes/armor
4.doors/windows
5.fences
6. if you swim in the sea, you can see the fishes
7. add more seacreatures (turtles,dolphins,seals,etc)
8.cloth
9.more food
10.more plantable things (trees, bushes)
11.Train Dolphins to catch fish for you
Hi. I love the game but there are some things that I think are exaggerated between them that when you die, you must start from the beginning, again in the raft two by two and without any of the achievements. The other is the little space in the trunks to store things which forces you to fill the raft of them to keep things that you can not carry on ... for the rest, I think a great game !!!
Main issue right now? Thatch is waaay too uncommon. Since every bit of rope needs 2 thatch it becomes such a grind of patience waiting for more thatch to show up, and since literally EVERYTHING needs rope, this is a major pain. Wood isnt nearly as bad. Scrap is rare but actually becomes far too plentiful quickly due to how few recipes use it. Lastly make trees a little better ie more wood and thatch. They're rare as balls to find so should feel like it.
TLR:
Make thatch either more common or 1-1 for rope
Make scrap more useful
Make tree more useful.
I disagree. I found thatches to be very common but maybe that's because I concentrated on my home/greenhouse-like place than expanding on my raft.
When I was playing on my second save file, I decided to make a huge greenhouse-like place for my coconut trees and food and drink sources. If you make enough tree cropplots (I made about seven), you'll have enough thatch and wood to continue your raft building. But if you don't have enough or any cropplots, you can make a lot of item nets (I made about six) to help you farm those thatches you need. It'll take a while to gather the thatches you need but it'll help if you build something else while waiting. In time, you'll gather a lot of thatches this way.
maybe ad some way to keep the shark away like spikes, and a bed to skip the night would be nice. the objects like coconuts are really hard to catch and if they fall into the water they just sink, if you made them float it wouldn't be so hard to grab them. stacks of items are to small and my inventory fills up to fast if you made them like 50 it would be more manageable. i really love the game and think if the future its going to be amazing. thanks Nick
This game is a little weak...Because have no story and no logic...
What can we find or explore? Absolutely nothing... because just have ocean and a platform to create a limited house.
In my opinion this game need a Extreme update with a story... with new items... with more to explore.... a boat to go everywhere and find something....
Any one gets over the game easily.
watching survival games like... ARK or H!Z1... they have a story and have a propose...You can build and empire and fight with others... "PVP"...
This is my ideia.. :D
I don't know if this was suggested before, sorry if it was, but it would be really nice having a volleyball as your companion in your adventure, you could find it in a barrel or maybe you could start with it? I guess that's up to you lads, but I'm sure a lot of people would love having a friend in the raft with you even if he doesn't give you any bonuses.
The option to decide which material you use to make walls; wood, thatch, leather (for when/if skinning comes along).
A 'door' that can either be an opening/closing door or just a thatch or leather drape that can be walked through.
Thatch or leather rugs for floors. AKA something to drop on top of the 'ceiling' floor tiles to reinforce against any potential rain that may be implemented or just for decoration.
Saving or making new barrels to collect water from any potential rain.
Painting! Green stain could be made from the thatch and red from the beets, so just add a few more colorful things to extract painting/staining materials from and allow basic color mixing so the brown can be broken up with pretty colors. :)
Hello and congratulations for this great game! :)
Some ideas and suggestions:
-Saved Games:
When dying (which isn´t common atm *smirk*), don´t let us start at the worlds first beginning. Many work for hours are gone. If the game has more dangerous parts (such as diving for treasure, swimming for rescue an animal/person/something not grabable with hook) and you fail, you can continue from your last savegame.
Therefor shark makes more damage and/or researching of new items/animals by touching/eating bc of poison or prickles like ...
-sea urchin
-jellyfish
-coral
-sea serpent
-New Items:
-(built) "salt-evaporator" (maybe an addon to water purifier)
-Salt can be used to conservate your meal if decay comes into play or just for better taste plus gives more energy. Multiple abilites, if research and/or disease joins the game.
-glass, ...
-plastic and other stuff from pollution (by finding them you get new blueprints), but graduate them into common, uncommon and rare items.
Keep in mind, that supporting environment is a good and necessary matter and additionally for good reputation.
Maybe our rafts switch to the biggest oceancleaner world has seen.
-Ooze (earth for trees, color for paint wood, ...)
-(built) "Ooze-catcher"
-Eggs (cooking, getting animals)
-grains and seeds (food for animals, planting)
-some sort of fabric (carpet, blanket if its getting cold and coldness makes damage to your health)
-Algae (food, paint, making paper, wallpaper)
-bones and gristle (for building, deco or go shaman ways *smirk*)
-hair (30hair+1thatch+1wood=brush)
-(built) Rake (for treating the earth after harvesting rare trees)
-(built) brush (painting, cooking)
-flowers (healing, cooking, flavour)
-unknown items for identification, additionally ...
-funny recordings/videos when researching new stuff, for instance cooking some unknown stuff (mushrooms) or drinking from a found bottle (Alkohol). While beeing poisened, you are talking with the shark lying next to you on a beachchair holding a Cocktail.
Kind regards!
Hi Raft Developer ! I have some ideas for you :
The rhythm of the game is too fast, often busy drinking water and eating, the items bar need to optimize, drag or take things is not very smooth, especially when the thirsty death, to the items column to get water. The mechanism of the shark is not very good, because it is always there, will not sometimes have, sometimes not. Perhaps should add some, raft defense mechanism. Need the mechanism of fatigue, need to sleep. To the end of the game most of the time in the busy production of rafts, but obviously the game mechanism can not let me peace of mind.
Game going quite well. Few suggestions or ideas are:
You should a reachable island eventually you should also add rain/thunder/cloudy days also can you try to make it so that there are more items ingame eg boat(to move to different areas make more rafts) metal housing(using the scrap has more durability) and make the area or the water have like a reaf and u can do spear fishing and setup fish traps. Thanks for your time hope to see this in the game I also understand your time is taken up alot so updates wont be coming soon bye.☺
You should add the ability to steer the raft with and oar or something. Then you should add an Island/Islands. But the resources on the Island/Islands shouldn't be renewable so when the resources run out you have to build a raft again and go back into the water. You should also make something that will allow you to communicate with the outside world, but it should be extremely hard to craft/obtain.
I like this game A LOT so far. I would love it to go wacky places, but always staying on your raft (that's a big part of the charm for me). Maybe start a coconut company (Coconuts by mail is the next big thing!). You'll need a lot of produce, but eventually you could become a giant corporation! Declare the raft a sovereign nation, and go to war with enemy navies? Raft gets a rocket upgrade and goes to space?! Anything is possible, I love the beginning and the mechanics, just add some higher level crafting stuff (and higher-level stuff on top of that) and you're gold!
Keep up the great work, or work on whatever you want next if you think you're done. Thanks for what you've made so far, I really enjoyed it for a couple hours!
What an awesome game!! There's so many replies to dig through - so I'm guessing most of my suggestions would already have been said somewhere in the gigantic pile, I tried going through a reasonable number so apologies if this is just a repeat.
I love the idea, and without adding too many intricacies, some ideas for the future might be:
1. Setting up a basic background - like some small green islands on the horizon, perhaps only parallel to your journey direction so you're not travelling to somewhere per say. Whether it's continuous hill shapes, or the odd bare sea to make it 'look' like your travelling is up to you (unless the idea is that you're in the middle of the ocean with absolutely NO land in sight). In which case never mind!
2. Along with that basic background, if you're into that kind of thing, could be setting up weather climates. Such that desert looking islands (yellowish in the distance) may give incentive to create a roof to your raft to shelter you from the sun or you lose water much too quickly without it. And whiteish land in the distance could mean ice/snow, so important to not be too far away from a 'heat source' like a torch/food cooker that kinda thing, or else you may lose hunger too quickly.
I guess along with that you could introduce different types of materials found in said climates. i guess it just adds a bit of variation to it all, like different fish or even using seals instead of sharks or ice covered barrels etc.
3. Multiplayer was awesome! Being able to share chests and such in the future would be amazing, and brings a bit of an added challenge when sharing the food cookers and such.
4. Beds or sleeping through the night would be neat, I guess it may fit in more if there was more consequences at night like more shark attacks etc. Day/Night cycles are excellent though!
5. Would be great to perhaps slightly increase the range/distance certain items appear. Such as making rarer items appear and last longer on screen giving the player incentive to build their way out there to collect it, whether on temporary cheap platforms (break after a day/night cycle for example) or on regular ones.
6. Ranged weapons could be thought about if there's the ideas of adding in more enemies that might attack at different times and do more than just eating one piece of the wooden platform (like shaking the raft and perhaps losing a few platforms in random places such that centrally placed items aren't 100% safe). Just motivates the player to want to get rid of the sharks rather than just letting them eat the outside pieces and not really caring too much when you have 50 around you.
Anyway, maybe a bit too much there, I'm sure it's all been mentioned before, but I really enjoyed it. I greatly look forward to seeing where it goes and contributing to it where I can.
All the best to your team!!
Perhaps more variety in furniture? Maybe a stockpile sort of thing that can store more of a specific resource (I.e., it can ONLY store wood OR metal OR plastic, etc. but it stores more than a chest can hold). The other furniture that is almost a must have is lamps that can attach to pillars and not need to sit on the ground. Speaking of furniture, maybe the ability to sit in the chairs and perhaps fish while sitting? That would really fit the theme. :-)
Relating to the earlier topic of food variety and fruit trees, you could implement a 'deep pot' for things like fruit trees (it takes up more space, but you can plant a fruit tree in it). The fruit trees should also take MUCH longer to grow than the palm trees, but should also probably be regularly harvestable for fruit. (Suggested fruit: oranges, lemons, grapefruit).
Furthering the subject of food, you could introduce spoilage of cooked food (and the ability to prevent spoilage? Dehydration/salting for early-tier, canning for advanced?). I do also agree that there should be more than five kinds of things to eat :-P
For animals, I saw the idea for a fishtank earlier in the forum, perhaps be able to catch two live fish and let them breed for food? It would probably be something that's pretty advanced, requiring you to use the furnace to make glass panes or somesuch. It would also be semi-feasible to rescue a chicken at some point and have to build it a nest box (planks, nails, thatch) and feed it so it gives you eggs. (IRL layer chickens give about one per day during the up season and one every two or three days when the days are shorter). (Also IRL stuff about chickens: they are NOT herbivores. Seriously, they'll try and often succeed eating anything. Feeding them fish is entirely feasible. IRL nest boxes do need their straw, or in the game's case thatch, changed out regularly.) This kind of thing could also be applied to pigeons, which are prooooobably more likely to be encountered on the open ocean. ;-)
Dolphins would be cool, though impractical, I imagine. /shrug
A daily/bidaily autosave would be nice.
IDEAS!!!!
I worked very hard on this, up this if you want something in here implemented in the game and please feel free to elaborate on my ideas, as I did with some others! Suggested idea elaboration is at the bottom where it says "Other Advice or Vague Ideas:".
Also, I have added a cons section to each of my created\elaborated ideas so you can better use my advice.
Ropes, Bridges, Reinforcements, and Stress.
To connect separate rafts you can build. This can give the user a more community like feel with a raft for cooking, catching food, house, and collecting items. You can travel between raft segments by small bridges. Cons: This idea may take away the feeling of loneliness and survival feel you have created thus far. My advice, create a limiting factor preventing the building of massive rafts\raft segments. Create stress between connecting ropes and just floor tiles in general, at a certain point, have the player create reinforcements to prevent the destruction or division of a raft/raft segment(s).
Fish net, Bait, Fish, and Expiration.
This idea was copied, but I will elaborate on the idea. Fish nets require bate to lure fish - they cant just wonder in there! Bait is either grown from a seed gathered from small Islands, or crafted from other fish (You may change where they are found or made, I just gave you an idea). You can add three types of catch able fish with the net; Carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores. Herbivores are captured from placing only the grown bait in the fish net, carnivores are captured by placing meat bait in the net, and omnivores, both types. Obviously, omnivores would have to provide the most nutrients. Cons: Adding these fish may affect the difficulty of survival. My advice, create bate that are difficult to make, make said fish rare to catch, or lower their nutrition values.
Islands and Grappling Hooks.
Immediately, you may think "That will totally and completely ruin the vibe and strategy of the game!", allow me to explain. As the player is floating happily across the ocean, he may come across a small island, like really small-You will know how big or small you can or will (Please!) make them, to balance the game. On the islands, there can be food, rare resources for interesting items, whatever. You're the developer, i'm the humble person giving the great ideas! However, getting there is a bit more difficult. The player's raft on its natural course will completely miss the island. The player must create a grappling hook or a grounded, harpoon like gun - attached to the raft of course - to pull towards the small island. As mentioned before, the player will have to place a tremendous amount of structural support to the raft, preventing the separation of it. To refine my idea, or make it work, you can make it so that the raft can only be so big, for the grappling hook to work. Also, while the raft is being held by the gun's rope from the island, the rope will slowly break, forcing the player to leave soon after arrival. Cons: my idea here was very raw and quick-whipped. My advice, no. I strongly insist you elaborate on this idea. If I continue, I enter into a zone that is of very specific details, of which must be thought out by the developer, if he wishes to impalement this idea.
Other Advice or Vague Ideas:
You must add better textures to take away the feel of "A shitty game." (Sorry, I'm getting a bit tired. That was a joke too. Hah Hah...)
Consider adding more limiting factors such as: Happiness, temperature (Copied), Stress of structures, or fertilizer for crops.
More crop items.
I highly suggest you create a better multiplayer version of the game. I thing it will gain much more popularity that way.
As I said before about raft segments, in multiplayer all players can spawn on different rafts, and in single player you can split rafts, and catch up with them later on.
If you add catching up with separated rafts, add a way to slow down, speed up, and a map to know what is around you. if you are next to a separate raft or ship, or island or whatever, use the grappling hook to join up with your pal or whatever.
About me:
Hey ya'll! I'm 13 and in 7th grade, ummm I play violin which is fun, i also take art lessons! Oh! My name is Justin! This, just in, a weird kid - as he calls himself - "Justin", was last seen spending hours on his computer, writing a dumb comment.
Note to developer:
I see major potential in your game, that's why I spent a lot of time making this comment of organized ideas for you. Whatever you are doing with the game though, I trust you with it, because you made it really well so far!
Ps. When you add this game to steam, please don't make it too expensive!
Another Ps.
If you mention my name or anything like that in the game, YOU WILL MAKE MY LIFE! Why do you think I spent all this time and effort making this for you? But its fine if you don't. (No, not really.) Nah, it fine. (No, shut up me.)
BTW:
No, I am not schizophrenic.
"Shut up! Leave me alone!"
Jacksepticeye, 2016 or something like that, I don't care.
Sorry the ending section is crappy, I got tired, now I feel like this is a school assignment. Ugh.
I just need to hit that "Post" button now. Ok, I will. Peace out!
Darn! Forgot to mention that I think that game hits a brick wall at some point. At a point of experience and progress, the game becomes very boring. There are no new things to build, you have a surplus of food, and the shark does not scare you any more. If you find a solution to these problems, or the overall problem, than you will attract people for longer. I highly suggest this.
This is an amazing game in the making. Simple, addicting, and fun like original minecraft. My suggestion is to keep it that way add doors, ways to light the fire on water purifier and the fire, tools, weather, and so on. But don't take after minecraft don't add a bunch of dumb stuff that ruins the game. Good work to the developers great game already i hope it succeeds like minecraft and makes its way onto steam! Good luck and good job to everyone!
I got to a point in the game where I was just surviving easily off coconuts beetroots and water and the wood and leaves came from the trees I planted. I became incredibly easy and boring. I think It needs to be more challenging with waves/storms perhaps for example. Just other things that can exhaust your resources and damage the boat. The sharks are also quite easy to fend off. If it was multilayer you could raid other rafts for example. Also there aren't many items. Once you've built everything it becomes quite boring. The chair and table seem pointless. There should be more functional items I think. Also for example if your boat could sink you could have a lifeboat. There could be a bed or many other things which could be used. Maybe the ability to make clothing
Oh also I think if you could upgrade things that would be great! See it would be really interesting if you could survive with friends but then you could build weapons on the raft to attack other rafts for example. Also I do think the shark thing would work better if you had like perhaps sometimes more than one! Then you could feed your captures to the sharks haha. If there were different amount of sharks also it would be less predictable and perhaps if you fed the shark it could leave you alone for longer for example.
You could use this game to raise awareness of global warming by like putting plastic bags or dead turtles with water bottles in their mouths or you could have events. An event could be a nuke dropping and clouding the air with ash or something. You could also do a temperature thing so every year you play, the temperature and the ocean rise. Also seasons would be a cool idea.
Zdrastvujte, I would like that you optimize the game, as umenya not the most powerful computer, but not the weakest, but hangs all the way. You can add more fences, steal, a boat, more food, a wood fundanite with sharp needles so that the oculus can not break it. You can also add a few islands 1-3, that would be possible to float on them to boats, to collect resources kotyh no in the ocean. For example, poluchaetsya somehow it is not logical, metal can not swim on the water! Then how can you pick up the land on the water ?, and on the islands you can find both metal and earth, as well as debris from a cartilage or from an airplane! See)
I think a really cool idea would be to have a sort of winch to bring up treasure and stuff from the bottom of the sea. Also this is an amazing game. Another idea is to have metal foundations that take tons of metal and wood but they are shark resistant. Another maybe late game or late development would be turrets or something to defend against sharks. Another late game idea is that you can make your base underwater and drain out the water. I think that this game has so much potential and I hope that it will continue to grow. I think that there should be more enemies than just the sharks and more ways to kill them (bows, ect.)

Suggestions to add to Raft by my 5 year old - He LOVES Raft!
My 5 year old LOVES Raft and wanted me to let you know what he wants added. He even did some of his first writing on paper to send to you!! :-) (That's his writing on the attached image!)
1. Pirates (may or may not actually attack)
2. Doors (for building with)
3. Dolphins (he wants to see them jumping in the ocean & over the raft)
4. Crabs (to catch and be able to eat)
What he wants to see removed/fixed:
Shark swimming 'through' or 'on' the Raft.
