Interesting game! The improvements from the game version to the current version are really visible! However, one of my problems were the bit unintuive controls. And as I am currently using a qwertz keyboard (a german layout) i also did not have a dedicated "?" key, and I also did not find a corresponding one :( This is something i surely would have also not thought about, but is an interesting little problem. Other than that, I am excited what will become of this game if you continue to develop it! Great job so far!

Developer

Thanks a lot, I'm glad you liked it!

Sorry about the help key, I'll invent something about it. Meanwhile you can try and use "/" button, or just look in the game page for full controls list :)

Nice concept but it needs refinement. Pretty hard for a game jam game, I'm supervised you took on the challenge!

Developer

Thanks! I'm already working on post-jam release :)

Nice little game! Hooray for Love2D! I played the jam version so I could rate it. I enjoyed the game a lot, and I know you were going for more oldschool controls to fit the aesthetic, but man there were so many buttons to press. I kinda wish they were slightly simplified, I think that control style is oldschool for a reason. Other than that, really cool, fun game, and I'm very impressed. Nice work!

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you've enjoyed it :)

Yeah, I'll think about more ergonomic controls, thanks for feedback!

cool game dude!

Developer

Thanks :)

Interesting little game! I like the idea of a randomly generated roguelike in entirely 1 room! I think visibility was a bit of an issue as I was struggling to see everything as it was all really small, bit it was still a cool little experience. Kept finding locked doors and no keys though, and it took me a few seconds to realise I was being attacked by a spider! Maybe some more sound effects to alert the player to when they are being attacked would be nice.

Also, nice sound design! Very simple but also tense, I like it.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it :)

Come to think of it, it does have only one large level, so there's another theme fit, boom :D Thanks for pointing it out.

I'd definitely will work on sound effects, I just haven't had enough time during jam to find and choose nice monster and attack sounds.

One item, one dungeon, one room on one screen, THAT'S hitting the theme!

Nice little game. Though I was not sure what I needed to do. I just searched for the long sword which is best to slay some enemies. Not sure what was the purpose of all the other items (like candles) or what goal I needed to reach. But maybe I just need to play better! I was also confused that you could actually carry 2 items, 1 equipped and 1 "normal".

Developer

Thanks!

Well yeah, the exception to "only one item" rule are the armor and weapon you have equipped. If you had just one item at all, that would be much more tough to play :D

The goal was to kill all the enemies in the dungeon. You're right, I probably should've mentioned it in the intro screen.

Nice game, mostly thinking that it was made in just in 48 hours. Though the enemy spawn rate was way too high, and their damage was really high too. I gave it 2 tries but couldn't do much xD. Still, good game.

Developer

Thanks! Probably I should add some sort of difficulty levels :)

Submitted

Wow, you managed to create a randomly generated roguelike in just 48 hours? Awesome!

Not my favorite game genre -but I like your retro-cool music :D

Developer

Yeah, that was quite a challenge I've enjoyed taking :)

Thanks!

Nice little game. Literally. It was teeny-tiny on my screen, so I could barely see anything... :D
But what I saw was good, the interface is decent and the mechanics are implemented well, it also has random generated labyrinths. I'm a sucker for procgen games... :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked it :)

I've already addressed the issue of the visibility, so I'd release the fixed version as soon as the jam ends :)

Nice game!

Nice roguelike! well done!

I love that it is generated each time, it provides a lot of replay value.

Think I'll keep this one on my PC for a bit see how far I can get :D

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! :)

An interesting take on the rougelike genere. The only problem I have is that I have to close the entire game if I want to restart. If there is another way let me know.

Developer

Thanks!

Yeah, there is no other way to restart, I had no time to code a proper one, sorry.

Nice idea for a game and well executed. I like the variety of items and enemies as well the way that only having one inventory slot was due to forgetting your backpack.

Also, I found a bug where if you try to drop an item while surrounded by walls/items, the game infinitely loops.

Developer

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!

And I'm very sorry about the item drop bug, I'm already on it.

Congratulations on making a neat little roguelike! I liked the concept of having only one item. I had to carefully choose equipment and remember where things were dropped after my gear broke. Nothing like having a weapon break mid-fight, finishing the enemy with your firsts, and then running back to grab a fresh short sword! I had fun scavenging the dungeon and beating up enemies.

I'm not sure if this was a glitch but I was unable to figure out how to get the enemies in that room. However I killed every other enemy I saw :P So maybe it's good for the spiders they were safe

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Yeah, the dungeon generation isn't perfect, so sometimes such situation happen, I'm sorry about that.

This is a really well presented, simple to pick up but seemingly deep game! Unfortunately for me it's a bit too harsh with the RNG as half the time I'd start right next to something which would proceed to wipe out the majority of my health, or I'd start next to two things which I'd have no chance of beating it. Besides that I had a few runs which felt more fair and were really fun! I like the way you have to juggle which item you want to keep and I like the turn based movement (this reminded me a lot of desktop dungeons which I love!).  Awesome work :D

Developer

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked it :)

Due to time constraints I unfortunately haven't put too much time to the actual game balance, so yeah, you're basically in the hands of luck :)

Submitted

Brilliant game! It certainly has better presentation than mine, with all the gameplay gifs and videos.

Gameplay is fun, although I'm a bit disappointed at how both of my good runs ended. Game went into an infinite loop and never halted when I tried to throw away an item in a tight corridor where all adjacent tiles already had items. The second time I just got a "mobs.lua:58: bad argument #1 to 'add' (Quad expected, got nil)".

Apart from that, I couldn't figure out how to use repair scroll, lamps, shields. They don't seem to do anything in item slot and cannot be equipped.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot!

Ooh, you've stumbled on some rare bugs, sorry for it. Thanks for reporting, I'll have a look on them.

Unfortunately I haven't had the time to code the usage of repair scrolls and lamps, so they are sadly a dead weight. The shields are used in armor calculation when you just have them as your only "item".

By the way did you know that you can change how your game page looks in the judging period? You just can't upload new versions, but you certainly can change how the game is presented. This monday my game's page looked incredibly dull :D

Submitted

Cool idea!
It's not the first "carry only one" game I come across, but I love how you give it an explanation by saying the hero forgot his backpack. XD
So, yeah, that's a nice game. Kinda regret the controls aren't displayed on the screen, though.

Developer

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it :)

The controls could be shown on pressing the "?" button. It is shown on messages area when the game starts, but now I think I should've made it more intrusive. Thanks for your feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Pretty cool! I wish I didnt have to hit the button every time I wanted to move a space, but that's a pretty minor complaint. Cool game!

Developer

Oh yeah, that one is actually pesky bug I haven't had time to fix, sorry about that.

Glad you liked it :)

Once I obtained a cuirass and long-sword, the monsters were no longer monsters.

I was the monster.

Quite fun! I believe I would have won, but the maze that was generated had some unreachable monsters. 5ft of stone was the only thing standing between them and my bloodlust.

It would be nice to have some quality of life UI stuff, like if I hit equip when I'm standing over something on the ground and I'm not holding anything, I would like to equip it without the extra step of picking it up.

I *can* see the argument for making me perform each little step separately though, so I suppose it depends what you're going for!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback!

Yeah, the point was to expand on tiny inventory trope in roguelikes (think e.g. DoomRL, where you certainly can't have all the weapons you've had in Doom at the same time) to the point of awkwardness. But right now I'm thinking I could already add the key for action you've described :)
