I like the concept here and I hope you continue to build on it because I think it's really cool. The card upgrades are a little complicated but I think it becomes pretty plain pretty quick. It is sometimes hard to understand what is going on in a round, what effect you've had with your card, what effect the enemies are having on you, etc. Making the game easier to read will go a long way to making the game more tactical and fun. Also, and this might just be me, but I dont think I was setting enemies on fire with my card the way that it was supposed to. Also, and Im sure you know this but your music doesn't loop so after a few minutes its just sound effects. Anyways, I hope you keep working on this because I like it.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Pretty cool concept, I feel like it has potential. But I found the added effect a bit too complicated sometime. Still one of the best game I've played

Thanks!

Some of the effects were hard to understand. I'm not sure when an enemy's strength would be 0. I mainly just picked things that would deal damage, then used the card on whichever enemy was attacking that I thought I could one-hit-KO. I got to room 8.

Also this error came up. Just looking at it, it probably was the result of more attacks after my character died.

Error

enemies/basic.lua:11: attempt to index local 'player' (a nil value)

Traceback

enemies/basic.lua:11: in function 'func'
enemy.lua:33: in function 'play'

Thanks, I'm pretty sure you're right on the error

I really liked it!  Very different to most other games here while very adherent to the Theme and good design. Unfortunatly i had the following error quite late in the game which kind of killed it haha ^^'

Error

room.lua:62: attempt to index a nil value

Traceback

room.lua:62: in function 'func'
lib/closure.lua:4: in function 'delay'
room.lua:94: in function 'update'

Oh and kudos for using Love2d, I've used it too ;)

Man, the combination of random generation and the choice of upgrade equals infinite replayability :) I've spent like hour playing it (but still haven't got past room 5, seems like I'm not that cunning).

I have one improvement idea: the player's strength and block numbers are only shown when you hover player figure doing the turn; perhaps you should consider displaying this infos on top of player or something - there's plenty free space on the screen.

Anyway, great job, I like it a lot!

Oh and by the way feel free to check out my take on the roguelike genre: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/460262

Thanks, I would have liked to add more info on the screen if I had more time :)

I like the way the game continues to build, as well as the modular nature of the upgrades

The only think i'd add is a button to speed up time as the enemy turns can get quite long, also the music doesn't

loop. overall one of the most fun games I've played in the jam so far!

Thanks, I can't believe I forgot to loop the music lmao

Loved this. I was hoping someone would make a deckbuilder with one card! And this was a great execution of that.

Really fun, would definitely play a game like this.

Thanks :)

I really enjoyed this game. I think it would be helpful to know what enemy buffs do. It was hard to get past room 10 due to crashes, but I really liked how strategic the combat and choices were.

Thanks!
