Interesting Idea! But while i get that flow was your intention, to stay in the flow state the game would have to get harder bit by bit. Of course an extremely hard topic. ;D But yeah, I would also appreciate a bit more gameplay variety. However, I dig the artstyle! Overall an interesting concept, would love to see it developed more!

Developer

Thanks for playing man :)

Really appreciate the feedback

Nice game, I would just like to have something to disrupt the player once you get into the rythm of the game.

Developer

Thanks for playing and rating man :)

I thought it best to not really disrupt the flow of the game since that's what the game is actually about XD

Played it,

Among the team debated it,

Rated it.

Developer

Thank you for playing :)

Thanks for commenting as well.

However......may I know why you were debating ? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Submitted(+1)

Well the first question was if it fit the theme since the name is one pair meaning two platforms. That was quickly rendered not important because the argument well it's only one mechanic (jump) was introduced.

Secondly we debated if it can constitute a rhytm game since it doesn't have rhytm indication. One side said that if the rhtym was in the code is what matters and the other side claimed that what matters is rhytm is non-existant if the player can't feel or see it and thus act on it to play the game. Our problem was that there was no rhytm felt so the dissappering platforms felt like they dissapeared randomly.

Developer(+1)

Wow....never thought my game would spark up so much discussion πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

With regards to your first question, I thought it would be a little unoriginal to use one-platform. Which is why I thought of using a pair of platforms. It's still only one πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

For your second question.....

In the beginning, the rate at which the platforms move will steadily increase. At a certain point, the speed remains the same and if the player was able to survive that long.......they would have basically caught on to a particular rhythm in the game and could maybe continue for as long as they wish.

( As long as they stay in that rhythm )

Thanks a lot for the thoughts on my game. I really appreciate it :)

Submitted(+1)

Yeah, as people said, the rhythmic nature of the game once you get a hang of it makes it very simplified, as people already said. But I really like the concept, maybe if you had different positions of the pairs of platforms and a way to telegraph them, combined with new mechanics such as springs, dashes, wall jumps and what not, it could be a really cool game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the new ideas man :)

I'll definitely try and implement some of these ideas after the jam........... hopefully life will permit XD

Submitted(+1)

Great idea! A little hard at first, the platforms seem to dissapear a little too quickly, but when I got a grasp of it, it was pretty satisfying to jump up and up, well, until I fell at least :P Very well fits the theme!

Developer

Thank you for playing man :)

I appreciate the feedback

Submitted(+1)

Like others stated you just need to find a rythem and then you can go forever (well in my case forever = 46).

More different platforms/moving platforms would make it a lot more interesting with some warning when the platform is about to disappear would be great..

Also not sure if "one pair" fits the theme enough though. Would be better if there was only 1 platform.

Developer

Thanks for playing man :)

I did think of making only one platform.....but then I realised that a lot of people would do the same ( which they did.....)

So then I thought I'd cheat a little and make it "only one" pair of platforms πŸ˜‚

Other people have already mentioned the same problems that I had with the game, so instead I'll add that the rhythmic simplicity of jumping from one pair of platforms to the next was almost therapeutic!

Developer

Well either way.......thanks for playing man.

Glad you found it relaxing :)

Submitted(+1)

Im kinda expecting a randomization pattern with platform that come in smaller size. It wasnt hard to reach hundred of point tbh.

Developer

Thanks for playing man :)

I thought it best to continue with the same style of platforms so that things didn't seem tooooooo jarring for the player

Submitted(+1)

Controls felt good and I really enjoyed sinking into a state of flow. It took me awhile to figure out what triggered the platforms to disappear(time), and some visual indication of when they are about to change or how much longer you have would have made things even more fun for me (but maybe easier?).

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing man. Your feedback means a lot to me :)

I suppose some form of indication would have made things easier......but I don't make easy games XD XD XD

Maybe after the jam I'll make some changes

Submitted(+1)

The idea is interesting, i like the looks i feel it even takes back even before dos like older pre windows computers which is super cool ^^

the character movement and jumping felt right, however the platforms seem to disappear a bit suddenly, so you either dont really have the time to jump or you double jump and fall because you didn't anticipate the next platform poping right above you because of timing. If you solve this issue the rest is a good base. Well done :)

Developer

I suppose I need to re-work the system on which the platforms work on...... maybe something to let the player know that the platforms are going to move. I thought I'd leave it be for now cus it's more hard-core this way XD

Thanks for playing and for providing feedback man. I really appreciate it :)

Submitted(+1)

Interesting game! Very sneaky doing 1 pair for the theme. I feel like if you made the game get harder as you go (not sure if it does yet, I only got up to 84) then it would be more interesting. As it is right now once you get the idea of the game and get into a rhythm you can just go forever. I did notice that if you jump around the spikes at the bottom then you fall forever, you should add a check to see if the player is too far downward and then restart the game if they are.

Developer

Actually the difficulty more or less remains the same when you reach a score of 90-ish....but yeah, there are things I could implement to make it harder :D

Unfortunately I thought I fixed that error where you endlessly fall............I'll try to fix it after the jam.

Still, thanks for playing and providing feedback :)

Submitted

I had to jump up and go quite far right (I am assuming it works on the left too) to get around the spikes.

Submitted(+1)

I think you should have feedback before or when the platforms move, either auditory or visually. It feels a bit jarring to just have them disappear. The first few tries I did not even realize they disappeared after some time, because that always happened when I hit the second platform, almost thought it was bugged.
The concept is really neat though, especially starting right out of the menu!

Developer

I did think of adding some sort of visual cue......but I felt it would be more challenging without any sort of feedback. This way a player has to be more alert and  move quickly.

I realise that the movement of the platforms is a little sudden....maybe I could implement a new system after this jam.

Still, thank  you for playing my game :)

Submitted(+1)

I like how the menu turns into the game. I got a bit confused that WASD seemed to work but I could not jump but once I found the arrow keys it was good. It is quite a difficult game, I see why you are challenging people to get to 50. Nice Job

Developer

Thank you for your feedback and for playing man.Means a lot to me :)

Submitted(+1)

Hey nice short game!

Suggestions: review the controller to make it a but more physically based and have some feedbacks before the platforms disappear otherwise it's a rhythm game more than anything else haha

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and for your feedback man :)

Well.....it honestly is a rhythm game :D :D :D

As for any feedbacks before the platforms disappear, I thought it best not to do anything of that sort cus the game seemed more challenging and better off without anything of that sort XD. I'll definitely keep it mind for anything I have planned in the future for this game :)

Submitted(+1)

Fairly straight forward, I was able to get to 101 points before I messed up and fell to my doom. The spikes are a little interesting because after the first jump or two, you never see them again! (Until you fall to your doom, that is)

Developer

Thanks for playing man :)

Really appreciate the feedback

It's seems difficult at first, but when you get into the rhythm, you can pick up points just right. But once you make a mistake that's it. I liked it!

I'd appreciate it if you give my game a try too: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/463074

That was so difficult xD

Developer

It's supposed to be   XD XD XD

thanks for playing :)

Yay, 7zip worked! Thanks for the tip :)

A nice, simple game that started out confusing but I eventually got the hang of it and had quite a lot of fun :) Good job!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback man

Glad you had fun :)

Ahem, woman :P You're welcome though! :)

:)

Developer

ooopppss..........

Pardon me........

I didn't know...........

:P It's okay

Unfortunately I wasn't able to play your game as I had problems unzipping it. If you would maybe be able to provide a link to a web version of it, then I would be happy to play that one instead. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, I don't know why I can't unzip it.

Developer

I'd suggest looking at the game page comments cus a few people had the same problem.

Don't use Windows extraction tool.

Right-click on the zip file and use 7zip or winrar or any other extraction tool you have

Submitted

I see... I'll try that, thanks :)
