I was browsing throught some of the game I have rated to see how they performed because I' not really happy about our final score.

Our games are so similar and I just don't understand why your game was rated so much better.

I don't get it, why your game is more original than ours when we basically have the same mechanic.

Not saying that our game is better or your game is bad, I'm just really confused.

Anyway congrats to your final rank, almost made it to top 100.

I think it comes down to contextualizing the theme for the player in a way that 'feels' original.

As an example, the game ranked 9th overall in this jam, "Blade Breaker: Sword Taker", might have gotten such an amazing score because, among other reasons, it took the rather uninspired idea of "only one use" and twisted it into "only one durability". I was actually aiming for "only one durability" with my game as well, however I framed the game around this idea in the wrong way by making the things you pick up more like "items" rather than "weapons". With a blade, you can say that it "broke", but with a potion or a handgun, you'd say it got "used". And it's this small distinction that makes one game 'feel' more original than another!

Or well... that's at least what I've gathered from this jam. There are definitely loads of other reasons why some executions of the same idea might have gotten better ratings than others - whether it be presentation, game feel or something different entirely! I feel the best thing we can do right now is to be proud of the games we made, the experience that we got from making them and the chance to retrospectively look back and think about what we can do differently next time!

I know this jam ist not about art or sound but this so great! I love your style!

However, it's simple, the concept is very well executed and overall polished. But most of all it's fun to play and has this moment "ok, one last try" and then you still playing it half an hour later :D

Developer(+1)

Awh, what kind words! Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

This is so polished! I love all the details in your art, the paniced pea run, the sword swish, the sweat when you are getting hurt. It is a really nice take on the one inventory item.

Developer

Awhh tahnk you so much! The paniced run is one of my favourite little things that I added haha, I'm super glad you noticed and enjoyed it!

Best GMTK 2019 game...I am sure it will get to finals...

Developer

Ohgosh, thank you! It really means a lot

Lovely graphics! I included it in my GMTK Game Jam 2019 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and sharing!!

You copied our idea :D Or did we copy yours? :D

Anyway, I really like the graphics and animations. The music and sound is also very nice and the variaty of weapons. The controls are ok, but you are overwhelmed by enemies way too fast.

There are just too many enemies and too less weapons.

Your game also feels a little laggy, but a lot of people mentioned that already.

I would be honored if you check out our game, because we went for the same idea ;)

Developer

Thank you for the feedback!

Enemy spawn rates have been since tweaked in the post-jam version of the game - their spawn rates start out low enough so that you can get your bearing, but hopefully not so long that it becomes boring while you wait for more enemies! Performance has also been improved:) I hope you try out the new version when it comes out!

So fun to try out al the different items. Great art too. You can only use them one time is truly on point with the theme.

Absolutely love the pixel art. Really love the depth of the game and strategy at play as well. Placing certain tools in certain positions so that they can be acquired after you lure most enemies with an 8-ball. Really love the mechanics at play.

Hope you expand on this. Would love to have an exe to play offline

However.....if I may make a suggestion, could you make a range indicator or something for the chemical? It's a little hard to tell where it will land

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the feedback! I have been tweaking the game over the past couple of days, and I did actually make an aiming crosshair for the potions, but turned it off last minute when my licence expired because I wasn't satisfied with it yet:( Sorry about that, but thankfully an .exe is on the way!

Great to hear :)

Nice work.

Thank you!

I think my favourite item is the gravity ball. It would be great to have more synergy with items.
Great game, a little bit laggy some times.

Developer

Thank you! I've actually been optimizing the game but I don't think I'm allowed to post the new version just yet, so it'll have to wait til the voting period ends

I really like this game. There are definitely synergies I'd try to go for and get higher and higher scores as I play. The sound was well done and satisfying when you killed a lot of them. The only thing I felt was missing was some sort of health indicator... Maybe? But that may not even be necessary. Hope you expand on this idea!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! I've added a new tool in the post-jam version of the game that has a decent synergy with the bow

I was trying to avoid a health bar so that the UI would be more minimal, bu perhaps I could have made it even more clear that your health is ticking up with like some sounds or a red flash or something!

Really ran into a gem of a game. I was very impressed and very addicting game. I'm going right back to playing it. BIG FAN!

Thank you so much for the kind words!

Definately a fun playground. everything felt fair and purposeful. I died first time starting it because I was literally surrounded by cacti but haha it was mostly funny. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad you had fun with it

Fantastic take on "only one weapon"! All weapons feel very distinct, even though the explosion is probably a bit too powerful  - especially in combination with the magnet field! The art direction is stellar - with charming pixelart and very fitting (mouth made) sounds. Enjoyed it quite a bit, sadly it starts lagging if too many enemies are present, which makes achieving high scores a chore. :(

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! Optimization was definitely an issue by the end, but the post-jam version is much better already!

This is my favorite game of this game jam so far! Like the gameplay and sound effects a lot!

Developer

Thank you so much!

Really cool idea with some frantic gameplay and some excellent decision-making. I think this could be awesome if you expanded it into a full game.

Developer

Thanks so much! I'm definitely considering building upon it:)

Played the game, and not disappointed at all in terms of the mechanics. You are forced to think about reaching for a particular weapon that you want to use. Creative thinking also comes into play here. I love both the cherry (the pink bomb that kills a bunch of enemies) and the ball that attracts enemies, combine them together and you get lots of points. I also love how you are given a chance if an enemy is close to you so that you can escape before you die. Sometimes there are situations where if there are a bunch of enemies, you are just outright stuck, that happened to me several times.

Thank you for the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it

Real tight with just the right amount of juice. Comboing different weapons together feels great.

Developer

Thanks so much for the kind words!

Neat little concept and a lot of fun.
Does run a bit laggy on my comp when enough entities spawn though.
Still... there's good synergy with the weapons and it otherwise plays great!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! The frame rate is definitely something I want to work on if I get the chance~

this deserves to get the gmtk video. Hey, and I love your art.

Developer

That's high praise, thank you so much!
