This is the first top-down shooter where the "only one" theme is applied to the enemies, and it works so well!
Barely got up to 21ks though ^^;
Great job, this was a lot of fun~

I was so excited to hit all three enemies with one shot just to realise thats a bad thing to do :D Good game!

Another great concept. I didn't understand why I kept losing at first, because I didn't read the "how to play". I wish it was communicated in the game in some way that you're supposed to aim for 1 enemy at a time. Either way the concept has potesh.

Really love the concept of this game as well as the laser increasing in size over time. It really made me think about how I was going to place my shots rather than spamming attack.

Really unique. I can say I don't remember playing a game where I can't multi kill things and this really made it a good challenge. Really made you think and kept you moving.

I really love your idea! It seems simple at first (you get one shot and can only kill one enemy) but then you made it more challenging with things like the changing size of the laser, the boost, and the multitude of enemies. Congrats and great job!

Fun game, and the intensity is really involving once you get too many enemies on screen. Really good take on the theme too!

This game is a briliant way of making the idea 'one shot, one kill', as you have to kill exactly 1 enemy with 1 shot. I enjoyed my playthrough.

A fun game to play, but shooting only one enemy at a time is not so fun! But yeah, it strictly follows the theme, and that's good. 5\5, 5\5, 3\5 as this not exactly the most original idea I have ever seen!

Good idea. It's really tricky and challenging. Graphics aren't the best but that's not what this jam is about.

PS: the background image is what I have as my Desktop background.

Here's mine if you can spare some time playing it. Many Thanks:

Nice game! I liked the way it makes you move on the screen in order to find the best spot to shoot from. It adds an interesting challenge.

Oohhh! I love how smooth this game plays, and how simple it is to get into playing it, very good and compatible with lots of different types of players, like @Zman110 said, I really like how you can't multi-kill, you don't see that much in many games! Which is what makes this unique in my opinion, I would absolutely love to see this game be developed more and polished, perhaps some music too! Good job, good job!

Check out our game Only One Recruit if you haven't! I would really appreciate it! ^-^

I just finished and checked out your game! I left my honest opinion there so go and take a look see!

I'm glad you liked my idea! There is music actually, but I turned the volume down in the final build because I just a made a quick 1 min track in FL studio that loops and was afraid people might find it too repetitive. I'll admit that it's too quiet now and I'll definitely turn it up when I continue the game!

Thanks for playing!

Making multikills end the run was a gutsy choice but I really liked it! Made you think a whole new way when playing! Had to wait out enemies when they grouped up! Fun game!

Would love if you could check mine out too! Or not, no pressure ;) https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/462672?after=20#post-876644

Thanks! It took me about 4 hours to come up with the idea itself as well as the mechanics that compliment it! I really wanted it to be a good twist on the popular "One Shot, One Kill" saying lol.

Hey, this was a fun arcade-style shooter! Very challenging, but not overly frustrating (or any more than it should be). A couple suggestions - I think you can remove the kill barriers from the top and bottom of the game, those don't seem to be adding anything. There are quite a few situations where I'm not sure why I'm dying - if the enemies had visible bullets that would help immensely. Making this into a bullet hell could make it suuuuper fun!
Feel free to check out our game Einnsámr as well :) https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/463168?after=20#post-876717

I'm glad you found it to be satisfying! I had a lot of inner debate going on on whether or not I thought the game was too difficult, but it seems that the feedback on that has been positive!

Admittedly, your's is the first suggestion regarding the play area and I was debating on whether or not it was too small so adjusting the verticality is something to consider.

As of now, enemies don't have bullets because it's way easier to program enemies that just follow you, but I'm planning on continuing the project so I have few suggestions that other people have made in mind so look forward to that!

Is it possible that you died because you missed? If you kill more than one enemy or zero enemies in a single shot then you also die haha. I thought that was the most interesting way to adhere to the theme.

PS

I can't play your game at work because I'm not supposed to download things on my work computer, but I'll certainly check it out when I get home!

Ooooooh if you kill more than one thing you die as well XD I get it, that totally makes sense with the theme. I hope you dispense with that after the jam though, it felt really good to line up a cool shot against multiple ships, but I couldn't understand why I kept exploding afterwards haha.

Totally understand, I look forward to hearing what you think of Einnsámr when you have a chance to try it :)

The restriction to one kill per shot is really great. It is counter intuitive for me since I am used try and kill as many with one shot. That is what makes this game so fun to play. I think it would be fun to add a shockwave like weapon that disperses the enemies away from each other. My high score is 16 after trying many time, it is so addictive. Great game.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you took the time to make it to 16 kills! I know that the game isn't exactly easy haha.

There's been a lot of great feedback so far and I'm planning to continue the project once the jam is over so please keep your eyes open for that!

Addictive concept: easy to understand, but hard to master. I liked it! Definitely can see this developed further with multiple enemy and weapon types. You gotta be fast or you will be overwhelmed - and as you are not allowed to shoot multiple enemies at once, you basically have lost then. I'd maybe put the dash on a cooldown independent from kills, to reward skillful maneuvering a bit more. Rarely used it as it is now! Also I'd consider letting enemy ships bounce away from each other on collision. You could bet on this and hit them right after, when both ships are (hopefully) isolated, thus easy targets.

I just tried your game and left my honest review on it!

Thanks for playing game as well! After reading lots of the feedback people have been giving me, it's been inspiring me to continue this project even further!

I've got lots of great ideas to make the game even better so be on the lookout for that!

Nice idea and concept. I don't like the background quality !

Thanks for playing! Admittedly, I'm not the greatest artist so I just found it off of Open Game Art lol.

An interesting take, took me a few deaths to get things figured out :P Good job on the entry

Developer

I'm glad to hear that you stuck to it even after a few deaths! It's not an easy game by any means!

Thanks for playing!

I'm glad you like it! After reading some people's feedback, I can definitely see where I can improve on it so look forward to that once the jam is over!

I'll check out your game when I have the chance! I've been at work a lot recently, but rest assured that I"ll leave you a rating when I can!

Submitted(+1)

I like the idea that you can't hit zero or or more than one enemy.

Nice work!

Developer

Thanks very much for leaving a comment on my page! I really wanted to put a good twist on the "One Shot, One Kill" cliche and it ended up becoming this!
