Design[3/5] It feels like you need to wait a lot in this game doing nothing.

Theme[5/5] One earth.

Originality[4/5] Game about a real world problem, but it feels like one of those cookie clicker games but with less to do.

Cool game! The mechanics were pretty well balanced, although I could have used a bit more research stuff, because it seemed like I could never get those cards for some reason. Could have just been luck, though.

Just barely escaped! I only realized potential strats on the second playthrough, but that's kind of cool!

Great game!!

Developer(+1)

It's not just you, research cards are actually the rarest just because there are less of them... The other ideas for research cards we had (stuff like satellites that wouldn't take up space on the planet or even a moon!) turned out to be a little too hard to implement within the time. Thanks for taking the time to play and review it, glad you liked it!

This is a very well thought of game! Really love the mechanics. Once I took the time to understand how the building works, I was able to escape Earth with 2 years remaining.  I don't want to leave earth though :(. Lets hope it never happens in real life :)

Developer

Let's hope it never happens indeed. Thanks for playing and for taking the time to figure out the mechanics and everything, they could've been better explained for sure.

(1 edit)

I was bummed that the game forced me to escape or lose, even if my planet was really deep in the negative of pollution and with like 150+ research.
Why escape a planet that's fine ?

(1 edit)

my strategy was to build only a couple of sewage plant, that produce a A LOT of money, and have everything else be either research or anti-pollution things.
The plants give plenty enough money to gain the 100+ % research needed.
And all the anti pollution thingies allow to be in the negative.

In the end, you can also replace the plants by environemental stuff and have a clean planet

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing it, I welcome the more "thematic" criticism! In the initial design we actually did intend for there to be an unstated but alternate win path, but we ended up not being able to implement quite a number of environmental cards, without those we didn't even think this would be possible and ended up skipping the alt ending thing. It's really cool that you found a way to do it anyway, and I wish we'd managed to account for that possibility.

The sewage plant was also one of the cards we realized we'd typoed the numbers on (Especially for cost, I think in the final build it's like $5M when it was meant to be $50M? Oops. I don't think that had anything to do with your strategy though, hah.

This game really reminds me of a previous one from Blackthornprod, but with a much more positive ending for mankind...
I have to criticize the meaning of the game, since I don't think it has an ironic stance, and that the main way to win is to pollute as much as you can to leave the earth to die behind you.
The adherence to the theme is not that good either, since the fact that you have one earth doesn't affect gameplay, and the main goal is to leave said planet for another one, which means that the "one earth" doesn't really matter to begin with.
The artstyle is really good with a doodle aesthetic, a nice color palette, and identifiable buildings.
However, I have real troubles reminding myself on which building is which, and a reminder would have improved MY experience (I won't take my case for a generality).

The game has been really well made for only 48 hours, but I feel it doesn't really fit the jam, and that its core principle contradicts itself.

Developer(+1)

Heh, a few people have mentioned the similarity! It's an unintentional one but I had seen his video on that game before, it was about partway through making this when I went "oh god I think I realize where I might've gotten this from". Had a small crisis about it, but it's mostly a visual similarity I guess and the gameplay is different enough.

I appreciate the thematic criticism though. It's not quite meant to be an "ironic" stance, but rather something that comes from the idea that we've already messed up our one planet and all we can do now is try to escape without ruining it even more in the process. And yet inevitably people seem to keep ruining it anyway... "winning" the game isn't necessarily a positive. We did intend for there to be an alternate win state of remaining pollution-free, but we ended up not having the time to implement it, and it does make our theme weaker as a result.  I do understand that the theme of the jam itself seemed to get a little lost in there, we took it as initial inspiration and just kind of ran in a direction, for better and for worse.

Thanks for taking the time to play and review! A way to doublecheck the buildings on the planet is something that we definitely want to implement post-jam, and I'm glad you enjoyed my silly doodle art. :P

Thank you for your elaborate and satisfying answer!

Liked the game but didn't really understand at first. There is quite a lot going on with not much time to get the perfect strategy (pretty appropriate for our real earth really!). Didn't manage to complete but enjoyed it. Few minor things that would make it look much nicer is change the default unity clear color and different button styles

Nice concept and alot more thought went into this one than alot of the others. I won but the sad smiley made me feel like i didn't really succeed. (Which isn't a bad thing)

The urgency is what makes this really entertaining, it forces you to plan and learn other strategies. It's a good card game, and although i couldn't reach 100% research (almost but run out of money xD), sure i will play it again.

Really liked this one, bravo!

Cool! I can see it was inspired by blackthornprod's game (but that's not really a bad thing)

Developer(+1)

Hehe, a few people have mentioned blackthornprod's -- it was unintentional, but a while through conceptualizing I did have a "OH WAIT I KNOW WHERE I GOT THIS IDEA FROM" moment. Had a small crisis over it but I think ours stands up on its own merits, despite much much inferior art.

Thanks for playing it!

So much fun! I played twice, improving a lot the second time. I reached 92% research but ran out of time. As others have said the game was confusing as it was hard to figure out the optimal play strategy, but I enjoyed myself  a lot!

Developer

I'm really glad you enjoyed yourself enough to play twice, and not only that that you actually improved the second time -- shows some stuff is working as intended! :) It's definitely confusing and if we had enough time we'd have had more clarity and data, definitely things to include in a post-jam version. Thanks very much for taking your time to play and review it!

Fun game! Lost, but got to 88%.

I wish there was a way to check the cards that I already placed since I didn't always remember what type of buildings did what and if they would combo with one another. But it looks like there probably wasn't enough time to code all that especially since it looks like you were able to implement a bunch of stuff in the 48hrs! Nice job on this one :)

Developer

Thanks very much for your review! We did want to implement a way to view the things already placed + what they were currently producing, but we ended up having no time for it (the placed buildings do react when you mouse over them, but just visually... Didn't get to getting them to actually put out any of that data.) We added that "glow" to the buildings as a fairly last minute thing that hopefully would let players at least see what type of building it was. Definitely something we'll add to a post-jam version, though!

It's pretty good. Just adding my two cents in, having a destroy button would  help in some balance. Just to help prevent situations where me building a bunch of factories at the start force me into having to keep doing so as the planet was dying too fast for me to save. Literally killing it so I could win. Probably not the message this is trying to send.

The years that pass by is something I think can be expressed a little clearer. I don't really know how long is considered a year, unless I'm dreaming and each actions is considered a year or something.

Great game to play. :)

Such a heartwarming idea! The game was super chill and nice to play, loved the concept.

Cards were well thought out, encouraging the player to synergise. Pretty neat concept!

Very interesting global warming warning.

I NEED TO BUILD MORE INDUSTRIES THOUGH MY PLANET ISNT PRODUCING ENOUGH MONEY

Wow, I won! I like this type of games to chill out. Good job!

Thank you!!

I love that you made this! The whole "we only have one planet" sort of concept was something my team joked around with when we were initially coming up with concepts, and it's so fun to see that someone made it come true! I'm glad you were able to put out this project even after a rocky start.

I actually found the game very relaxing, it's perfect for some after jam winding down! :) The pollution mechanic gives a nice sense of urgency, and it's cool that you have to think about the building placements for the combos. It's also a nice touch how the planet's smiley changes based on the pollution!

Thanks for taking the time to play and review the game! Glad that you found it relaxing and enjoyable. :)
