Its not just about light, the file is very light lol. One of the best games I've played so far. The idea and level design is brilliant and the art too looks fantastic. Sad that there isnt any music. The spikes honestly were the bigger problems but it was more because I was too focused on the ghosts lol. I think it would be nice if you added other mechanics asides from keys like switches.

Developer

Glad you liked it, I mean the game is made with 2D sprite so of course the file is light lol, thanks for the feedback <3

That must be the cutest main character I've seen!

The idea and execution of this game are great. Really works well and feels natural to move and peek the scenery.

Collecting 2 keys just to step on a spike and restart was maybe a little too frustrating, as it would take me too long to find them. Also the ghosts never really became an issue for me. Was expecting some more danger from them.

Overall, the game is awesome and leaves me thinking on how good it would be with some general improvements. Great job!

Glad you liked it and thanks for the feedback, I am planning to add more stuff, it's hard to balance between the map size and not be too frustrating, will do some tweaks in the future. <3

This is gold. Really. I had so much fun moving my light around like a paranoiac, sometime placing my light on a ghost and moving in the dark, fingers crossed. Great job. The art and animation is really a big +.

Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it <3

I played all the way through. Nicely done! Here's a detailed review:

Design [3/5]: Having to control both what you're seeing and your player's movement at the same time is an interesting concept. Having said that, I don't think it's explored anywhere near its full potential in this game. The bulk of my gameplay was broken down into two phases: the planning phase and the action phase. I would typically stop moving and use the light to look around and then actually make my moves in the direction I wanted to go. I think that idea is executed well within the game, but there's not much more to it. I wish there had been some situations that require me to use my light and move at the same time for some variety. The core mechanics of the game allow for that type of gameplay, but the level and enemy design never seem to require that from the player. The enemies are a nice addition, but I never found them threatening. I don't think I was hit by one even once.
I think this game would have gone from being interesting to being really good if there had been a puzzle element or enemy type that requires you to keep the light on it while you move around in the dark. I just felt like this game was lacking the sort of situation where you needed to move around in the dark. Again, the core mechanics allow you to move around in the dark, but the level design, puzzle design, and enemy design never require it from the player, which is disappointing.
Having gotten all of that criticism out of the way, here's some positivity: what you actually did implement is executed very well. Exploring is fun, but never frustrating. It's cool that you have to keep a mental image of everything you've seen so far when navigating the level (especially in the levels with keys and locked doors). Nice job on this one!

Adherence to the Theme [5/5]: You only have one little sliver of vision in the game. Well done!

Originality [5/5]: I think this is one of the strongest selling points of the game. I've never seen a game where the sole focus is controlling the light with the mouse before. I've obviously seen games with light controls before (horror games especially), but that always seems like a texture element rather than a core mechanic like it does in this game.

Good job! Keep making games and keep up the good work!

Wow thanks for the in-depth feedback!! I'm actually planning to add more variety to the game in the future, but I agree the potential is not fully realised, for the sake of a 48 hr game jam, I try to make it rather simple, I have a lot of idea in mind when making the game, but I settle for those simpler ideas (spikes and ghosts), I feel like I could iterate more on those simple idea, but I didn't have the time haha. Once again thanks for the feedback I really appriciated <3

Fun concept. Reminds me partly of Closure, and partly of those minigames in Donkey Kong 64 where you had to walk through a maze, lol.

It was executed well. I liked the progression from level to level, like when you added a second gate before the exit.

I don't think I was ever in danger from the skulls, but the spikes did get me a few times.

Nice job!

Developer(+1)

The difficulty is quite low that's true, I will bump up the difficulty in the future, thanks for the feedback <3

Verry fun concept!

I wished that the levels were more different they looked and felt all a bit the same. Maybe changing up the color pallet, adding in more ennemies that interact differently with the lightsource or more ways to use the torch.

Overall I think it's agreat game wich can be expanded a lot, great job!

Developer(+1)

I will definitely add more stuff in the future!! Thanks for your suggestion <3

This game is nicely polished, I like how you merged multiple ideas together, exploration, labyrinths, monster-escaping. It's neat. Having no music is nice too, love hearing footsteps sounds in games.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback!! Will add some musics in the future <3

An awesome game design, enjoyed it through :)

it's a very solid game with a neat use of the theme. A bit more variety would be awesome BUT nevertheless it's fun to play and so, very well done!

I will try to add more variety to the game in the future, thank you for your feedback <3

I love this game a lot! It was very fun and unique - whilst sticking to the theme!

The visuals were great.

My only complaint would be that the ghosts are too slow, and there is no music.

Despite that, this game was very well made with a lot of content given that you guys had 48 hours to make it. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Couldn't fine a fitting music in time, will do in the future, as for the ghosts, I don't want to make it too challenging for the jam, but in future updates I will bump up the difficulty, thanks for the feedback <3

Amazing. Love the multitasking aspect of trying to blind the enemies while making sure you don't run into traps.

Thank you, glad you liked it <3

First of, the art is beautiful. It is very clean. As for the game itself I love the maze like level design. It really builds up to the light mechanic.  Maybe if you could a timer to add another layer of difficulty finding your way in the dark, but that's just my after thought. All in all it's a great entry for the jam.

Developer

I'm planning to add more challenges and mechanics in the future!! Thanks for the feedback and suggestion <3

Submitted(+1)

Really enjoyed the mechanic of balancing the ghosts and looking where you re going. I feel like if there was more variety in the types of hazards and obstacles you encounter, this could be a great  full sized game.

Developer(+1)

I will try to add more stuff in the future!! For the game jam I made it simpler and easier, thank you for the suggestion <3

Very polished game, feels done and that's what I respect the most in game jams. Other than that, pixelart, the mechanics and level design is well done, but I would've liked if the enemies were more dangerous say that they were too big so they block your way and by that you have to manage where you stun them

Developer

I tried different ghost sizes and chasing speed, this is what I feel the most "fair" for all players, I try to make it easier the the jammers, maybe I'll bump up the difficulty in the future updates, thanks for the feedback <3

Submitted(+1)

It feels like there should be a bit more, maybe monster variety or dungeon hazards. But what you have here is a very solid and polished base to build on !

Developer

I would love to add more stuff to the game, but for the game jam I settled for more simple mechanics, thank you for the feedback <3

Opened it up and loved it! The dual purpose mechanic was super clever, and I have to say that I adored the placement of a few of the non-threatening ghosts to make me feel like I was in more danger than I was. I loved the leniency you pushed on the speed of the ghosts to allow for a more extended and forgiving exploration trip! I really enjoyed how cleanly the game moved and appeared! I especially loved the moments where I was changing between lighting up a path to memorize while imminently flicking back to the ghosts. Overall a really fun game! I would love to play any updated version of this game with more content!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!! Glad you liked it, hope I'll be able to make a full game out of it <3

Submitted(+1)

This game perfectly captures the feel of exploring a dungeon, using the light to guide my way and defend against spirits was a fun dual purpose mechanic.

The pixel art was charming, and I like the decision to show ghosts outside of my light's range. It helps with planning and movement and makes the enemies feel fair :)

Moving inches away from a frozen ghost is a great tense moment.

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it!! The choose to show the ghost because I don't want the player to feel unfair, thank you for the kind words <3

I love it, a great concept, a great story and lovely pixel art, I'd love to see this developed further into a full game because it's a brilliant piece! Good job! :)

Developer(+1)

I will try to make a full game out of it, thanks for the kind words <3
