Theme interpretation
Moonshot might refer to a project that has some sort of "greatness" for a "great cause". However, how would you define "GREAT"? We wanted to make a game that in some way asks this question. (We should mention that this is our first game, making games is so much fun!)

Game's alright. Not the kind of game I tend to play. I was close to winning, but realised I didn't have enough energy and there wasn't any other building that generated the amount needed.

The little events inbetween months are useful to catch my drifting attention. Graphics are a bit inconsistent, but don't impact the experience. The music didn't bother me. It's nice that you have 2 different themes for either side of the Moon. I'm surprised you managed to squeeze a tutorial for the jam!

Anyways, good job!

Great game! I found it very relaxing and well thought out. It was easy to work out how to play the game which is usually the biggest turn off for these types of games so great job on that. The only thing that I wasn't drawn to were the aesthetics (sorry!) but overall this is a really solid management/strategy game :-)

Developer

Thank you for playing our game and giving feedback! I am glad that you enjoyed the gameplay and game design. It means a lot to me.

I really enjoyed this!  The music was fantastic on both sides.  It reminded me of Phantasy Star II on Sega Genesis somehow.

I ended up playing through three times.  I kinda wish there was an third ending for completing both projects in the same month.  :-D

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks so much for playing our game and giving feedback! I am really glad that you liked our music! Our member Adam Chen created the 3 soundtracks in around 2 weeks and this is his first attempting the 8-bit style and his first time making music for a game too. (He has definitely not played Phantasy Star II)

We did think about having the third ending with a really tough/rare trigger, but we ended up abandoning this because of time and balancing of the game. I would love to add that in for a post-jam update if possible.

Thanks again for leaving feedback :)

Great job.  This was fun and the interface was fairly intuitive.

If you like platformers, please try our game.

Really nice idea! I love the concept! Pretty cool that you can control two different sides of the Moon! The gameplay, music, UI and explanation is great. My only comment would be to improve the quality of some sprites that seem a bit blurry, like the one of the Earth.

Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing our game and giving feedback! I am glad that you liked our game. Some of the sprites were created in a rush because of time and other reasons. If we would have done it again, I would definitely keep this in mind in the earlier stages and put more thoughts into project management.

Love the idea with the "dark side of the moon". I usually am pretty crap at strategy games but I had great fun playing this one. Great work!

Submitted

Really good strategy game ! I had fun playing it, maybe a little bit too easy ^^
And I don't realy understand the "trust" things and how it was affected by my action but it just went up so it's cool!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing our game and giving feedback! The trust system was going to effect the level of regular income and we planned to have some regular events that are closely related to trust. Obviously we ran out of time so we had to abandon some of the ideas. I am glad that you liked our game. I might be doing more balance after the rating period.

Nice work for your first game.  Fun to play and more detailed than it looks.  The retro audio works well and the humour in the text is fun to read too.  Good luck with the jam guys, glad you had fun making this. that's what a game jam is about.

Developer

Thanks for playing our game and giving feedback! I’m glad you liked the audio and the text. We did spend a lot of time polishing them.

Great job for a first game!! I enjoyed playing this, keep at it =)

I really liked the management of the two faces of the moon, collaborating but fighting... Really interesting twist. Also I imagine there are some more "random encounters" to be seen if I keep playing. Great work, I enjoyed playing it!

Developer

Thanks for playing and leaving feedback! I am happy that you like our game :) Yes, we have a pool of random encounters (not that big tho due to time limit) to create differences each time.

Submitted(+1)

This is not my genre of game at all but I actually had a good time! The graphics were nice and the two factions helped it be engaging for me. Good job for sure

Submitted

Nice- Ace presentation, and I liked that it has some personality- the duality of both sides of the moon was a nice touch :)

Submitted

Great game! It was pretty simple to understand the management ressources, and pleasantly surprised by the events tat popped up. I just have a question, is there any way to make money outside of the events?

Loved the audio, which was changing when we changed the side of the moon, genious!

Developer

Thanks for playing our game and giving feedback! I am glad that you liked our game :) To answer your question, yes, there are 2 facilities on the purple side which can earn you money for each turn.

Submitted

Thanks I didn't saw it, I'll try again :D

Excellent game! I love strategy - resource management games!!! and games made with LOVE (engine) ;-)
A quick question: Near the end of the game most buildings require an large amount of energy and I had only one building producing it which led me to an auto-loss. No special events helped me there (in fact one of them required energy in one of the choices). Is there any other way to produce the energy needed to keep going? I love to see the ending!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for playing and enjoying our game! From my experience, we need to keep an eye on facilities that use lots of energy. Many facilities actually use a lot energy and the resource they produce might not be what you are looking for. So when I play I don’t upgrade everything to win. Hope you have fun!

Submitted

Thanks! You are right!
I will try this way.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing our game and giving feedback :) There are actually 2 buildings producing energy and they are both on the yellow side. To win the game you would have to give up on some facilities, i.e. to not build all of them.

I do feel that I might need to be more generous on energy otherwise it will take people more than a few times to succeed.

Thanks again for the feedback and I will look into the possibility of increasing energy earnings.

Submitted(+1)

You are right... I forgot that the Dark Matter Detector also produced energy.
I try again using your advice! Thanks!
I think it's best, since this was part of the design, to leave it as is and either to put warnings messages or have some buildings upgrades or even the buildings themselves lock other building's construction to avoid walking dead situations.
Actually as it is now the building construction "selection" make the game more strategic.

Developer

I am updating the HTML version very shortly, hopefully, this will not affect your experience. We found a few bugs and typos and fixed them earlier today. The Windows version is updated (Ver 1.0.7) should be latest. itch.io seems to have problems unzipping my HTML at the moment so I will keep trying. Let me know if that bothers you and I will do it some other time.

I like the idea of this game and a big fan of strategy game. But for a text heavy game the font really confused me.. Hopefully can get some more readable fonts. Also I noticed when "go fullscreen" on browser, the mouse position has some offset and hard to click on the correction thing.

Other than that is a really good game.

Developer

Thanks for playing our game and giving feedback! I am so glad that you liked our game.

I will try to find a better font type and also look at the mouse issue.

Thanks again for leaving feedback :)

Love the concept! Felt like a sort of space Civ game with managing the various resources. I definitely wanted more flexible options of builds to create and upgrade. Lots of good potential improvemented, loved the music!

Would really appreciate it if you checked out my game as well and see how far you can get ;) https://avatar-nick.itch.io/moon-blob

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing the game and giving feedback! I played your game too and it is a really cool concept. Never thought of Mario Galaxy combined with FPS really fun to just navigate around. I am not sure if the mouse is supposed to control the aim but it is not on my machine?

Submitted

I liked the different art and music styles on the two sides. I might go with a different font, it was a little difficult to read (at least on my monitor)

Developer

Thanks for playing the game and leaving feedback, I will try to work with some different font types and maybe do an update in the future. :)

Submitted (1 edit)

Really interesting and unique concept! I also liked that you added a tutorial. The game has a lot of personality and it's really awesome. The artwork and music are fantastic and the presentation overall is really well put together.

I had a bit of trouble on my first run understanding what was going on and how the resources worked. I think for a short experience like this it's important to have the player understand how the game works early on. I'm more of a visual person so maybe it would have helped to have some icons instead of all text. Or maybe even differentiating them with colors.

I had trying to balance the two sides even though I didn't do very well haha. Good game!

Developer

Thanks for playing our game and giving feedback. We did plan to make some icons for the resources but were quite limited with our time, therefore we had to sadly compromise with the current look.

I do realise I might need to be more generous on the earning each turn, currently, you have to intentionally skip quite a few facilities to win the game.

Thanks again for leaving feedback :)

It's really fun to play, but there's just not enough of energy to support all buildings. Only two of them are producing energy, and none of them on dark side.  The second issue is that the click area is off.

Developer(+1)

Hi, thanks for playing our game and giving feedback. Could you please tell me about the click area issue that you encountered? Did you play the browser version or the downloaded version? If you played on a browser, what browser did you use?

Submitted

The clickable area was not the same as image. I think it's mostly visible on upgrade dialog. I played the browser version, Falkon browser - it's QtWebEngine based. On firefox it doesn't seem to load.

Developer

Thanks, I will take a look.

Submitted(+1)

This was a ton of fun! I think the font on the government side needs to be slightly higher contrast with the yellow background, and I think winning becomes *slightly* trivial once you pick a side. Could be fixed with an AI doing things where you don't, or with higher penalties for favoring one over the other. Of course, that would've been a lot for a game jam, so I love what you did with this!

Developer (2 edits)

Thanks for playing our game and giving feedback! I am so glad that you liked our game.

We did think about having regular events from both sides to check on your progress and would effect trust level, which will further effect income. However time was a little bit limited for making this organically fit together with balancing.

Thanks again for giving us feedback and I will play your game once I get home! 😃😃😃
