This was an awesome game demo, and I'm so excited to see what comes next! The idea that you don't know what your choices will do is fantastic, and the mystery and ability to bargain out of some but risk future choices is great. It was frustratingly fantastic to bargain out of eating a poison red fruit but get pushed down the fire path when I could have avoided it altogether. Great job!

Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed! I’m still writing endings, you can follow me on itch to be notified when the update is released. It’s taking longer than I’d predicted, but it should be worth the wait!

Woah this is amazingly done from the animation to the music! I did reach the demo message a few times, so I'm looking forward to seeing the completed story. As there is a lot of choices, I wonder if there is a way that you can go to some save point to see the branching narrative instead of playing it all over again, but what you have here is great and I'll love to see more!

Developer(+1)

yeah, I’m not sure what I’ll do to help find different endings. There’s going to be a lot of endings, so I’ll surely need something... if I let you skip the first section (where you make the decisions) then how would the second part work? I could let you choose freely like a regular visual novel, but that loses the main gimmick, and when you have a choice, you’ll just go for the ‘best’ path, which doesn’t make for interesting narrative. I also can’t skip any of the narrative, since every choice can have an impact on the ending. I dunno, what do you think?

Submitted

I guess it can be a feature after one has reached an ending to allow them to experience the story the way it's supposed to be first before showing them a timeline of their choices to which they can go to a specific question to try to go a different path. However, this might be more complicated due to your bargaining feature. I mostly suggested this because I tried to find an ending that was complete but felt like filling it out again took too long.

A game that kind of uses this timeline mechanic is some of the later entries in the stickman Steal the Diamond series done in Flash such as the game "Fleeing the Complex" where they have a map that shows the branches where you have been and lets you go back to a point but doesn't show you all the possibilities immediately.

Amazing game and very polished! i'm pretty curious on how you made the string animations (the ones with each letter of the word moving)  but that's just me. Very well done!

Developer(+1)

Using textmeshpro (a unity thing), each letter is rendered on its own mesh; I’m just moving those individual meshes around using a script. If you wanted to replicate, there’d be plenty of assets available, or you can check out the tmp sample project, which has some good... samples. Anyways, thanks for playing, I’m glad you enjoyed!

Amazing concept! The music ramping up when you are resurrected and the shifting background was done really well! Only issue was that the game soft-locked on my first play through. It was when I reached the temple and punched the door; the game never progressed afterwards.

Developer (1 edit)

Hey, that's no soft lock: that's the end of the demo! Sorry bout that, most 'endings' have a formal message, but I missed adding that message to a few paths. I'm still writing various paths and endings, you can follow me on itch if you're interested in getting the full version of the story when it comes out.

Submitted

Ah, right. I'll definitely check out the full version though!

Super awesome as usual Camh!  I really like the mumble voices~  Also, that jagged chat bubbles and wiggling text are great!  Moody cool visuals and mood all around.  This is a really great proof of concept :D Keep it up my friend!!

Developer

Hey neat, thanks for playing! The game's script is currently at around 10,000 words and counting, I'm looking forward to releasing the full version so that I can quit writing for a while. Hopefully I'll be seeing you in the Brackeys jam in a few weeks too!

Nice job i love the atmospher  !

Nice job! The visuals and all of the cool little touches made it appear extremely polished. Aesthetics were on point. Music was great, and I assume it was timed, because it came in very dramatically at key points. I did not understand the bargain mechanic until I played around with it a bit. Some of the speech bubbles passed really quickly right as they popped up. I'll look forward to the full story. Right now, I have no idea what's going to happen.

Very very nice.

The bargain mechanic was very rushed, I'll work on improving it for the full release. If you're interested in the full version, you can follow me to be notified when it comes out!

Love the art, love the music, love the dialog! I wish there would be a different font tho. Great game! Good job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Did you find the font hard to read, too small, or was it some other problem?

Best game of the jam !!
It's so sad it's not finished ! The atmosphere is perfect, the music change was just at the perfect moment. The dialogs were funny (and each time i was thinking of something funny about the questions, the character said the same XD)
I had all the correct answer 1th try XD, i don't know if there's something after punching the bad acheolog or something.
Obviously the concept is very original and well developped. I look forward to the post jam version, plz tell me when it's done !

Developer

Hey, thanks for the support! You can follow me to be notified when the update goes live, it’ll come out in a week or so (it turns out that diverging narrative paths is a lot of writing).

Submitted

I was loving it, but I seem to be stuck here. Nothing I press advances the game. Should I restart? https://ibb.co/9rtkSnD

Submitted

I restarted. Stck again on a different part. Please tell me if this gets fixed, I was loving it.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hey, so the game isn’t complete, sorry for the confusion... Most paths lead to a formal, ‘end of demo message’, however I missed putting that message into a couple of paths. I’m finishing up all of the endings now, and they should be released in a week or so, follow if you’re interested in getting updates!

Submitted

Okay thank you!

The atmosphere is thrilling. Great art and music. The premise isn't that original, but very fun to play still.

Developer

Hey ricki, thanks for playing! I’m curious to know, what did you find to be unoriginal? Has some other game done similar? If so, I’d love to see it.

Not in a game, I think, but I've read stories and hypotheticals with this idea, where you must follow your choices not knowing what they mean. The closest to this kind of stuff that I've seen in a game is in Talos Principle. And sorry for the wording I used- I didn't mean that your game is unoriginal, just that I've read similar stories. Yours really stands apart tho, due to great aesthetics.

Submitted(+1)

Waiting for the game done! I hoped that the game would not stumble on my choice, but it suddenly stopped. However! Presentation, music, sound, plot, one of the best games I've seen on this jam! Good luck in completing!

I love this game, it's really one of the best narrative game here. What I like in this game a lot of little details, espectially shaking text to emphasize emotions and importance. Great work.

Submitted(+1)

I was enjoying the whole thing and then it goes and abruptly ends on me. How dare it do that, it was being all enjoyable and then it goes and does it.

BAHAHAHAHA

Really nice one, excellent presentation and fun take on the whole narrative deal!

Developer

Yeah, I'm really sorry that I couldn't tie it all together... As it turns out, branching dialogue paths is a lot harder than it seems. I'll be working for the next few weeks to finish the full release, you can follow me to be notified when that comes out.

Submitted(+1)

absolutely loved this!

Submitted(+1)

The presentation and atmosphere is really good! The idea of making choices which are out of context and only bind you later is a really inetresting take on the theme.

(+1)

This was a fantastic experience. I am very excited for you to be able to finish it and release it. The tone was great, the music and the visuals were perfect for setting the mood, even the simple backgrounds and the way it twisted to different colours through the grey.

Well done for getting such an incredible concept done in the weekend, and I did laugh at the end of demo text about overscoping. This is one of my favourites so far

Developer

Thank you, I'm really glad you enjoyed! If you're interested in seeing the full version, you can follow me on itch or twitter to be notified, it'll probably be in a week or so.

P.S. I was wondering where I'd seen you before, it was Mark Mark Mark!

Submitted(+1)

Very, very cool experience. I love me some atmospheric storytelling, and that's what I got. The dialogue is actually realy elaborate for a 48 hour game, even if you say 'its just a demo!' The choices are intresting too, making you realise how little you mean to the dealer; He's just doing his job. I loved the artstyle and sound design, they compliment each other really well, and I especially loved the little text effects, similar to games like Celeste, to emphesize the tone of the words. Great job here guys, this is an amazing jam entry and I can't wait to play the full version!

Submitted(+1)

Well it left me wanting more. I absolutely loved the art and overall style. There's definitely a lot of potential to this. The game as it stands just ooozes style and replayability and you have definitely religiously stuck the theme. I loved the sound efffects and atmosphere overall. Really looking forward to whatever you have planned for this game :)

Submitted(+1)

This was a really nice experience and a great take on the theme!

Would have loved to experience the whole story! :)
