This game elongs to the long list of inovative puzzlle games in this jam. Good work designing it.
Really fun game and very enjoyable, the differing chess pieces made for a lot of different and interesting puzzle mechanics, really nice job :)
Played and handled very well. I think you should have maybe changed colors of active pieces sometimes I'd get lost trying to find my guy at the start of every level. Having an undo button was pretty helpful at times, took a little bit to finish it but we trucked on through!
I really liked the game and the concept. Some of the puzzles do get a spike in difficulty but it really is great.
Extremely creative use of the chess pieces. Was very entertaining to see more real chess rules like queen conversion and pawns moving 2 spaces incorporated into the puzzle. You delivered a very large amount of information on the mechanics through the levels with only a few missteps. It allowed for some very awesome puzzle designs (only some of which made me want to slam my face on the table), and such a large number of them too. Excellent work!
Very cool and interesting mechanics! Perhaps you could improve it by highlighting the tiles you can move to, both for clarity and for helping newcomers to chess (believe me, there are people who don't know what moves chess pieces can make).
Very cool game concept and appealing aesthetic. As you said in the description, the touch controls are buggy, which got me down because I'm a mouse man. It's a clever idea and art and sound design are very well done. Especially the use of color. Everything is very clear because of the separation of dark and light shades, and sparse use of red. Nice work!
I love the checkerboard pattern.
The puzzles are also very good.
I really enjoyed this.
The only tip I could think of is that puzzle games like this have the tendency to get people stuck in very unpredictable places.
Games like "baba is you" have a solution for that by making it possible to skip a level.
I shouldn't bother for a game-jam game. But if you want to make it a full-on game then it's something to think about.
This is the best puzzle game I have played in the jam so far, I love it. I got stuck on level 5 tho, the game is super hard, but the game design is amazing! I for sure will try to complete it when I have more time.
NOTE TO JUDGES
Since judging just began, I figure I should put some info here. The controls of the game are listed on the page and are told to the player in-game in the first few levels. (With the exception of pressing 'M' to return to the menu) Touch controls were a late addition and are a tad buggy, so leave them off unless you actually are using a touch screen.
The game is fairly long and difficult for a jam game, so I don't expect everyone to be able to even get close to finishing it. However, I highly suggest that everyone completes levels 1 through 5, as level 5 (the one in the screenshots that says "All Alone") introduces one of the game's core mechanics.
Additionally, by pressing the M, I and Z keys together on the title screen, you will unlock all levels. Please look at levels from all three worlds before judging art. (The first world is, imo, the best looking, but also the least creative)
Ahahah I see I'm not the only one to have sunk a LOT of time in that game ^^'
I was so satisfied when I reached the end, and then... SECRET ENDING! I haven't finished the bonus levels yet, but I think I will, it's really nice and polished, solutions are super clever, I love it :) Super good work!
