You have some good ideas and some bad ones in this game. Here are the things I think should be removed:

* The minimap blocking your view.

* Having less control over your zombies, meaning it's impossible to dodge projectiles, especially the molotovs/whatever is thrown at your horde that instantly kills all of it.

* Not much feedback when you attack a human (There should be a louder sound effect and maybe screen shake)/

Here's what I do like:

* The time limit forcing you to act quickly, therefore making each situation more tense

* Having different enemies turn into different zombies.

* Having the zombies not fully follow your directions to simulate realism (though this clashes with the gameplay because it makes it impossible to dodge projectiles).

I like the idea that having a bigger horde takes away your control, but this can make it impossible to control the horde, instead of your idea of making it more difficult.

You have a good concept, and I think that with a few changes it can become much more intuitive and enjoyable.

Thanks a lot for your detailed feedback, I'm planning to continue development on it after after the jam so it really helps! I do agree that the molotov is a bit brutal, I'll probably try and add a long animation time to the character and give it a slightly shorter explosion range to make it more balanced, hopefully that will fix the second issue since it won't be able to completely wipe out your hoard. The 1st and 3rd are relatively easy fixes so I'll make sure to change them soon! I'm planning to make it a more strategic roguelike where you have to spend points to summon zombies from corpses so the player will be making a conscious decision to have a large hoard, therefore accepting the advantages and disadvantages of it, although I will still probably make it slightly less chaotic.

It was fun ! Good take on the “indirect control” concept ^^

Well balanced, it was a bit tight in the last level so perfect ! I’d just say the indicators on the map were a bit too dark, but still good job !

Very good horde simulator. The loss of control started to really come to the fore only in the final level, and the balance between an overwhelming mob that’s impossible to control vs a lean responsible one is a neat tightrope to walk.

Varied enemy types kept it fresh, and the simple addition of a minimap keeps the game from being frustrating. Solid entry.

This was interesting. I'm not sure how well the "losing direct control" really changed the core gameplay. Since the zombies have the same goal as I do, the only real effect of it is that the swarm will occasionally split into group and attack different people, which is probably a strategic advantage at some points.

Really enjoyed this! Loved the mini map showing where the remaining humans are, and enjoyed the increasing difficulty as levels went on with different types of humans with different weapons. Very nice!

Really fun concept !! I love the execution, the juice, animations, ... One criticism, I never felt in danger of loosing at all. i finished the last level with 2mn to spare... The time given for the levels should be reduced :D Great job !!

This was really fun. I loved those character sprites and the sound affects. The idea itself was cool and also rather well executed. The backgrounds could have been a little better though. The game could also do with more challenge. It's rather easy to beat the timer. I also felt that the zombies doing their own thing when the hoard got larger felt a little too easy. Still, it kept itself in line with the theme and was fun. Great job :)

Nice work! This was a lot of fun to play, and a very polished experience overall!

Do you mind sharing how you implemented the minimap? That was a great touch that I also wanted to add to my team's game :)

Developer

Sure! First you just need to create a new camera as a child of the main camera. Then create a material with this new camera as the render texture. After that create a raw image in the UI and attach the material to it. You'll now have a smaller map that follows you around. If you want the map only to show specific things then go to the new camera and change what layers the camera can see. If you want specific icons for different characters/ items then create a child for that object and add a sprite renderer with the map icon. If you put this icon on a new layer called "Map Layer" (although you could also call it anything else if you want) and then disable the map layer on the main camera, you will only be able to see the icons on the minimap. If you want to make the map show a larger area then just change the size of the new camera. :)

Awesome, thanks for taking the time to explain!

cool concept for a game and very well executed! im especially impressed with the zombie AI's pathfinding, and how it doesn't just track the mouse but also seeks out nearby humans. the only criticism i would have is that it needs more challenge. but overall great job!

Pretty cool polished game! I also love the graphics and the sounds.

If you continue working on it, I think that the next steps could be to find how to add a meaningful challenges and more interesting choices. Perhaps some nice risk & rewards mechanics?

Great Job :)

This game is super fun, and uniquely on theme! I really like how it feels, looks, and sounds! Amazing work here, I'd love to see a full release for this game, I can see it making money!

I'd also really appreciate feedback on my game (If you want) https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2020/rate/695512

Played the game and it was amazing!

Great Concept. At the beginning the controls are not clear. But when I the move my mouse I knew it immediately.  Maybe you can add a little instruction box at the main menu or the first level.

Wonderful idea. It was very fun to play. I like the progression during the game and the different enemy types.

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

The progression in this game totally sneaks up on you. Early on it feels like a typical RTS, with your units being a bit more aggressive than usual. But before you know it, the horde breaks free and hunts down everything in sight! Felt like just the right length from start to finish, with the final level truly being a large scale attack with your units splitting off in every direction, and almost nothing you can do to stop them. Fantastic work!

What a great concept! The introduction of different villager types and zombie types adds a surprising amount of depth. Also very nice touch with the mini map, that would have been an easy thing to overlook, but it helps out quite a bit.

Moving such a big mass of entities is always really fun, just the nature of the mass forming around houses and obstacles is just satisfying! I think starting every level from the same blank slate is a bit tiring though, I would love to keep a few zombies everytime as the scenario get bigger. And hunting down one human that you forget somewhere before feels a bit like work, I think winning at 90% conversion would do wonders! Good game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I'm planning to make the game a rogue-lite after the jam where you collect and mutate your zombies so the issues you mentioned should be solved then :)

Submitted(+1)

Yeah making a whole roguelite in a jam is overkill, but the base mechanic works well and I am pretty excited to see how you can shape the meta-game around that!

Submitted(+1)

Very cool concept, and very nicely executed.

Submitted(+1)

Wow, seem like the situation is going out of control for the humans !

Really nice game ! I had fun while playing it, moving an army of zombies is always fun. Maybe you should show the entire map instead of a part, because sometimes we search an human across the map and lose time. The game has a simple but good concept and many ennemies, good job !

This game is a lot of fun to play. I like the movement of the zombies and the camera scrolls very smoothly. It feels just right in terms of controls.

The soundtrack and the sound effects are well chosen.

The difficulty is done well, ramps up nicely and feels engaing.
