Fun little addictive game that uses its main mechanic really good. Really good job, but still could use sime minor additions. Current control scheme fits the theme of the game well, but it can be quite tricky to aim (maybe an alternative control scheme where the charcter moves towards you mouse when you leftclick?) and maybe some enemies that would move in a different pattern towards the player, so you can't just stack them all in one giant pile and then basically massacre them.

But overall, really fun to play, good job!

Thanks! Sure, the chasing algorithm needs lots of rework and rethinking. Could be interesting to try other control schemes.

A very inventive shooter that fits the theme perfectly combined with the beautiful simplicity of the graphics!

Developer

Thanks!

A single stick shooter! I like it! I also love that enemies were letters! Very jam like!

Developer

Thanks! I was planning on using sprites first, but letters worked really well.

So addictive. I like the fact that you can't move and shoot. I couldn't get my gamepad (xbox) working... It would have been much cooler.

Cograts!

Here's mine if you can spare some time playing it. Many Thanks:

Thanks! My controller (PS4) also had problems while trying to play on Firefox (what browser are you using?). It worked ok on the itch.io desktop app and other browsers. Nonetheless, I'll have to take a look at it.
I played your game and commented. It was fun!

Firefox, many thanks for playing it!!!

Lovely game! I included it in my GMTK Game Jam 2019 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Developer (1 edit)

Nice! Thanks a lot! Also, very kind comments while you were playing.

Neat take on the theme. I especially like the 'W' because of the interaction with the core mechanic.

Mouse input would have been a lot nicer to aim than WASD/arrow keys, though.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I'll have to experiment with other control schemes. Played and commented your game.

Neat game with excellent movemet and shooting. I love this idea with art which reminds me Dwarf Fortress. Good job.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! Art wasn't planned that way, but it worked great in the end.

Submitted(+1)

This is a nice idea! I like how simple yet playable it is. I believe it would have been a richer experience if it had music and sfx. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Our audio guy was out of fun. SFX would've be added more feedback which is always a good thing. First on the list for a post-jam update.

Submitted(+1)

Its really hard to play on keyboard, also its kinda a shame that it has no sound at all, other than that its a nice game

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! Our audio guy was out of fun, unfortunately. It'll be added post-jam.

Nice! fun and addicting. My favorite part is the interaction you get for shooting and whenever you take a hit! Keep it up!

Developer

Thanks a lot!

Art is very minimal yet effective. Gameplay is addicting. Good job.

Developer

Thanks!

I played to Wave 5. Your game looks clean but have lots of fun. You used little letters to make enemy, especially I like the "C_" design. If you want to expand, I recommend you that you can design more features in each letter. For example, D can represent to "Double" when you skill the letter "D", he can instantiate two letter d to continue. BTW, very nice game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! And that's actually a really nice idea.

Submitted(+1)

Yes. When I played your game, fell you can add more features on your game. But your game style very clear. Suitable for mobile application later~Keep going bro.(•̀ᴗ•́) و ̑̑

Learning the alphabet has never been this scary. Really cool game! love the look and feel. Got to the final stage.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Got to Room 18 on yours.

Very cool idea! I'm loving the choice to change  the colour of the background to display health.
It works better with the joystick, because getting the correct angle on keyboard is cancerous.

Developer

Thanks! And I agree, a game like this sucks with keyboard, but it's nice to have the option.

Submitted(+1)

Very nice ideas (letters, background color for health) for a very nice game. Congrats!

Developer

Thanks a lot!

Loved the Vampire hearts and the background health indicator is pretty cool too. Those werewolves though, never thought I could be afraid of a letter.

Hey, we made a GMTK game too. Check it out!

the constant chase and the way werewolves react to you standing still really ups the pressure of not being able to shoot while moving and vice versa. i would love to see this in something a little more complex than a wave by wave zombie shooter in the void but conceptually this is really cool and i dig it. love the health meter via screen color. tricky game !

Developer(+1)

Thanks. That was the most interesting consequence of removing one stick out of the formula. But yeah, it'd be a lot more fun if put in a more complex design.
