Definitely an interesting take. Could definitely see this being an educational game. Only negative thing I can say is that it was a little hard to tell what you could walk over in some spots. Specifically going from the GPU to the area with the BIOS and Network it has cords blocking the way with a metal plate that you can walk over. I had previously found a similar metal plate that couldn't be walked over so thought that whole side was a wall. Ran out of time the first time since I couldn't find that left area.

Have you heard of 'impact games' before?  Those are games that are about more than just 'having fun' - they are about addressing real world challenges, issues, and learning. This game has such great potential to gamify learning about how computers work. It so much better than reading a COMPTIA textbook for example. The Aesthetics are easily 5 star. The music was so chilled and I loved exploring around the motherboard. I thought the command line interfaces were awesome and I loved how you replicated, for example, pinging home - great!

I think my ONLY gripe with the overall experience was the time pressure to do the tasks I was given. I failed a couple because I got lost so I felt that sense of pressure that kind of conflicted with the chilled relaxed time I was having with the music lol. It might be worth considering a target time to fix the computer that would encourage people to play again (and again) to improve their time but these are just my initial thoughts. Overall I loved this experience - thanks for creating it and putting it into this jam for us all to enjoy!

Developer(+2)

Wow, thank you so much for the incredibly thoughtful comment! I really appreciate you bringing up "impact games" that’s exactly the kind of space I’d love Byte Medic to live in. I kinda wanted it to be more than just a fun game something that makes learning about how computers work feel exciting and accessible.

I totally hear you on the time pressure part, you're not alone in that feedback, and it's something I'm looking at reworking. I love your suggestion about having a target time to encourage replays rather than punish players for getting a bit lost.

There are definitely some exciting ideas in the works! I'm planning to expand the game into a whole network, with other devices you can travel to, like switches acting as main hubs, and eventually reaching places like printers, routers, and more. I want it to feel like a living, breathing ecosystem of tech, with plenty of fun and surprises along the way.

Thanks again for playing and taking the time to leave such a meaningful comment, it really means a lot!

Developer(+1)

i also agree with the comment the person above made! I’m not good with tech at all really, and it was fun learning about the parts of a computer so props to you Legacy Games for making it super approachable! My siblings tried it too and loved playing!

Submitted(+1)

you're most welcome. This is the kind of game I would love to see in my kids school for example and I could definitely see schools using it as a form of learning for kids and teens. I have a particular affinity for this because its one of the spin offs of my adopted studio name - Miniature Giants - kids are all miniature giants. Small today, but with the potential to be titans in the future, and these are the kinds of experiences that help them get there :) Really loved it and Im going to follow you so I can keep tabs on what you produce in the future!

Oh! And for the timing thing on the tasks - what comes to mind for me is the type of mechanic used in Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders for example. You have to go down a mountain and get a target time in order to unlock the next section of the mountain and there are around 5 stages. It keeps a track of all your stage times and lets you know where you're faster or slower, but so long as you hit the overall target you're good. Just a thought that came to me.

If you’re ever looking to team up for a future jam, hit me up feels like we're on the same creative wavelength!

When you do alright and all explode:

Byte Medic : "Why are we where? Just to suffer?"

I really liked, very nice game, congrats!!

Developer (2 edits)

Thank you so much for the feedback, suffer always haha

Submitted(+1)

This was fun, and I did not expect the explosion at the end!!! It would have been nice if there was a map, but overall, it was really good 👍😁😁

Developer

Thank you for the feedback much appreciated I'm acutally working on a map just didnt have enough time to implement.

Wow, this game is really original! It was a bit difficult for me at the beginning, but once I realized I could just use 'HELP' in all consoles, it became much easier :D. The SFX are also really effective. Well done it's a great submission!"

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback! :D

I liked the game and completed it, but I almost gave up during the intro stage - it's WAY too long to find all systems without minimap or some navigation clues. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback, next update coming after the voting will be a minimap and a shorter intro scene that I'm already working on

Cool game! I must admit the CPU context didn't sound like fun at first but the game is great once you get the hang of it. Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback

I love the idea and the aesthetics. But unless I'm missing something that opening sequence is way too long, and doesn't do enough to teach you how to play. I didn't know what to type into the command prompt, and ran out of time. As far as I can tell the only way to continue is to restart, and wait through the almost 10 minute opening again. Afterwards I did see in the game description that you can type "Help" into the command prompt, but I don't think I was told that in game. Loved the art and music though!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the feedback! Just to clarify, the intro does mention that if you want to learn the controls, you should head to the orange floor pads, those trigger an in-game image that shows the movement and terminal controls, including the help command. Every terminal task also has the required command written directly on the floor nearby, and you can close the terminal anytime using the X button in the top-right corner.

That said, I really appreciate you taking the time to play and for the kind words on the art and music! I’ll definitely think about ways to make this even more clear in future updates, great points to improve on.

Submitted

Thanks, my bad, I saw the system controls instructions but I must have overlooked that is said to type "Help"

Developer

No no i appreciate the feedback

This is a great concept, but I don't have time at the moment to explore it fully. I'm amazed you've got so much done in such a short space of time! One great addition would be some kind of map so we can remember where the various components are? Great presentation, the bleeps and boops are so cute!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the feedback, I'm actually working on a minimap at the moment I didn't have enough time to implement it end of voting I'll probably update the game with a mini map and some other small additions.

Submitted(+1)

Always have been fascinated by the inner workings of computers, now i can finally explore them!

Love the design and the little details everywhere.

The initial exploration took a little too long, maybe a map displayed at the start would be a good alternative  or some traces on the motherboard with "directions" sort of like city names on road signs you could follow.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback, I was actually working on the idea either to do like road signs or a minimap, I have been working on a minimap but couldn't get it finished in time but there will be a update after the voting ends and then ill be adding a minimap and some other small additions.

No Way!, i actually wanted to make a game like this instead (Due to lack of 2D experience) i made a game called BitRunner, i am truly amazed that someone though tabout the same idea and i am so happy that you actually implemented it so good this game is a 5star for sure ❤️

Developer

That’s so awesome to hear! I’ll definitely check out BitRunner too, it’s always cool when ideas align. Thank you so much for the kind words and the 5 stars, it really means a lot! ❤️ Maybe one day we can collab on a jam together 😄

This was awesome! The music, the look, and the sound effects really stood out! I especially loved the beeping sound effect. Got a smile from me when it started. I think the only thing I ran into was the first command line prompt. After exploring for a while, I had forgotten that you could type hint to get information on the commands and pretty much sat there watching the timer go down trying to figure out what to input. Perhaps a text response on typing help if an invalid command is used would alleviate forgetful/not paying attention players from getting stuck?

Otherwise this is an awesome game! 10/10 from me

Developer

Thank you so much! I had a blast making the beeping sounds, my wife thought I’d completely lost it 😄 Really appreciate the feedback on the command prompt too. That’s a smart idea about showing a reminder if players get stuck. I’ll definitely look into improving that for future builds. Thanks again for the 10/10! 💚

Submitted(+1)

Really cool concept and art, great work! Love the "type help in terminal" :D I agree with the others that the start/explore phase was a little to long.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback :D Will be working on that intro a bit more

Submitted(+1)

Loved the art style for this game.  I think the initial waiting time was too long though

Developer

Thank you for the feedback, I shall work on that intro time

Submitted(+1)

I got stuck figuring out where to go for BIOS repair and network repair.

I also found that the initial exploration time was a bit long, while the time to complete the tasks was rather short.

Otherwise, I really liked the Art and the Sound work.  I also loved the idea of roaming around as a little nanobot trying to fix the computer.

Thanks for the game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback, so each Component inside has two tasks for for Bios Update or Bios Repair it would be in the Bios scene.

Thank you for taking the time to play my game.

Submitted(+2)

Super game. "Even BIOS need help"!

(Got stuck replacing wire in PSU - is that a bug?)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback will double check the wire task in psu last i check it was working haha, at least we allowed bug fixes will fix it tonight

Developer(+1)

Okay i found the bug so when you drag and drop the wire, the wire is meant to attach to mouse pointer it's not doing that so if you drag it and move your mouse point over where it should go it will work, but thank you will fix that later

Submitted(+1)

OK - I'll give it a try. But also, when the timer ran out, I couldn't find a way to just leave the task without completing it..

Developer(+1)

In the terminals at the top right there is a close button you can click at anytime it won't end the task you can also type quit into the terminal and it will close the terminal window

Submitted(+2)

Really nice entry

Submitted(+2)

I've learned something, chill game

Submitted(+2)

Great concept. I loved the minimalist art, the music was on point, and the gameplay albeit hard to grasp at first is real fun.

Developer(+1)

Somebody cooked here🗣💯
