This is a beautiful game! I love how you guys incorporated the theme! The pixel art and sprite work are amazing! Love how you guys put together the fight system as well! The QTE is very balanced and leaves a room for the player to not be too penalized, while also making the combat more interactive than just pure commands!
Great homage to the big old titles! Creative name as well! haha! ✨
You guys had a great teamwork to put it all together! Would love to see this one as a full game!
This is really impressive for a game jam game. I like the addition of the quick-time events when attacking and dodging, it makes it more interactive than a traditional turn based game. Really well done!
In my opinion, this is the most playable title I’ve experienced during this jam (and I’ve played nearly 70 games so far). Everything feels incredibly well thought out and delivers an amazing amount of fun. There’s a good variety of enemies, sensible attack types, and well-executed QTEs. The game never punishes unfairly — if I play well, I can defend against every attack, and if I mess up, it’s entirely my fault.
Visually, it’s great — that initial zoom-in on the board sets a fantastic tone. At first, I thought having two QTE keys (Q and E) was overkill, but after a few fights, I realized the choice actually works really well.
I’d genuinely be willing to pay for a full version of this game. I’m rooting for you and hoping for a continuation! In fact, I demand it — it would be a crime against humanity not to turn this into a full release. Shut up and take my money.
This is an amazing game, i'm not the biggest fan of turn based combat but this felt light, balanced and really, really well made...
Great game. Managed to get through it in a very gamejam friendly amount of time - never felt particularly endangered - I knew those years of training on QTEs in Shenmue would come in handy again some day :)
I really liked the idea and immersion of literally playing a table top game - reminded me of a game of (very long) game of Risk I played with several buddies many years ago in less savoury environs where the board got invaded by a very brave ant. Who we named 'Purple' as it hung around the purple parts of the map... Don't ask me why I remember this, though I'm doubtless one of my friends would too...
Sorry for the digression, lovely game - well done all!
Fun game I enjoyed the challenge of timing those blocks and hits, had me locked in like I was playing Sekiro.
Wow! I think this is the most well-rounded game I've played for the game jam. Everything is really well done, but especially communicating the sense of scale from the intro and through the camera movement of the gameplay that makes the theme pop. Well done!
60 mins later, and I got the predator head and baby larvae in my hands. Safe and sound.
Loved it!
Good sfx choices, loved the juicy, meaty and punchy hit sounds.
Music choices great. Loved the battle themes and BOSS themes were tense. Whoever wrote the themes in such good time, excellent work. Liked that the instrument libraries choices were kept to match the visuals and not overly polished with realism/reverbs (hinting at spitfire priced libraries)
Gameplay was so much fun.
The introduction of a living-room and zooming into a tabletop was a w e s u m.
Had so much fun! WELL DONE
Very cool! Seems like a lot of work went into this. Great fighting mechanics, it took me a little bit to get used to it as I'm not used to playing these kinds of games! However the camera slightly rotating when walking felt a bit distracting/disorientating to me.
This is a great game, I'll be playing it more, I want to win.
Good work on this one!
Awesome! Really enjoyed playing it. I can only imagine the work you had to put into this. It was super fun and I'm really impressed. Good job!
Wow, this was a great game. Honestly the boss battle at the end really got me good, I would've liked to seen more resolution to the story. And maybe show where the enemies are on the overworld map (I've never played these old jrpg's, maybe that's just how they are). But other than that it was really a great game. Thank you.
Love it! Great fun. Perfect difficulty. Wish bosses QT were random, not the same QEQQE every time, that would have made the final boss more interesting.
We thought about having them random but felt that with the random encounters and no progression we decided we should keep them as patterns the player can learn.
REVIEW:
Played 19min.
Finished in 18min.
Turn-based Combat like Final Fantasy.
The theme was well present in-game and incorporated. The mechanics are the optimal minimal required and well utilised.
The aesthetics are very nostalgic! The only issue with the GUI was the dialog moved to quick for me and would have liked a "press to continue" option.
Music sounded professional, well covered for most scenes, and nostalgic, but it stuttered a lot, breaking player immersion.
The story could have been more prominent throughout the game, instead of just combat all the way ending with standing over a trophy. Example: Some NPC's (Non-Player Critters).
I enjoyed the whole 18minutes of it. You presented some ideas for research and development. I think you should turn this game into a tutorial .
Thank you for the inspiration and entertainment!
Thanks for playing and leaving the detailed feedback! We released a day 1 patch for optimization but even that is proving to be a bit much for WebGL. If you'd like to try the game with better performance, we have uploaded a Windows build which should run better on most machines. Thanks again!
more of claire obscure? don't mind if i do. Really fun and engaging game. Love the fact that is basically a board game in a room. very nice job!
Great game, always love myself some RPGs. I really liked the world and how it's TTRPG set up and the pixel art looks good. The combat is really engaging and it was really cool to parry all the incoming attacks and take no damage. I felt that the combat selection was not very intuitive, I encountered a bug where clicking on the button would actually select the action below it, for example: Clicking the ranged action would select the slash action.
RPG wise I would've liked to see an AoE type attack to deal with small weak enemies easier when random encounters come up, it saves a lot of time for otherwise easy opponents. Also as the game progresses the player's damage and health doesn't scale too well compared to the number of enemies and the health and damage they have. Maybe upping the player stats or giving the players more actions to improve the action economy would've been great.
Good job!
Very engaiging and fun! Loved the visuals and combat mechanics, great work :)
Very solid RPG done in a jam. Nice one
I don't know what to say. I'll take time later to play through 'cos it certainly will take time. But it really nice setup and everything there. It will be nice to have a pc version of it, respawn sometimes gives trouble and freeze a game.
