This  was a nice game! I love how you made the spider animation move! feels very organic!!

I felt a little bit overwhelmed with the amount of controls to master at once, but once I figured things out, I was able to navigate through the stage! Hope to see this fleshed out as a full game! great job for the time we had! ✨

Great job on your game. I enjoyed it lots. The only issue I had which is more a me thing is that I can't get my fingers to handle wasd controls for platformers. I think my brain just can't handle it. Haha. I liked to the progression that was built into the game. Keep up the good work!

Very fun take on the metroidvania style! The progression feels good and its so fun to zip zoom around as a little spider. Great work ^^

Nice work. The gradual unlock of abilities worked well and kept things interesting. Really liked the zoom out feature to see the full playfield, that was a cool touch. The visuals were charming and fit the tiny world theme perfectly. Good job with the level design and progression. I loved the dangly legs haha

Developer

Thanks for playing! I had a lot of fun with this project and the theme.

Great level design and mix of abilities. I really enjoyed this!

Developer

Thanks for playing my game! Those were the two areas I really focused on the most!

Super cool little metroidvania with an impressive mix of abilities. You should be really proud of this! I experience a control glitch at one point where the spider just ran to the left at full speed and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Also, I'm curious how you're animating the legs. It looks procedural? Nice game!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and playing my game! I haven't encountered that bug yet, but if I do I will be sure to capture it in my web. You're right about procedural animation! It was a new thing for me, so it's a bit janky, but basically I drew a leg in aseprite, added a sort of socket bone at the root, then 3 bones for the leg itself, next I painted the area of effect weights on the sprite then used a IK manager with 4 CCD Solvers, 1 for each leg. Finally, I created a script that let me set a zone near the body that selects a new target for each leg while moving.
Here is a pic of the setup:

Oh, that's really interesting! Thanks for sharing all that info. I'm using Godot, so I don't know how much of your process would carry over, but I know there are similar systems. I'll have to play around with them at some point. The spider legs were a neat effect!

And I appreciate your continued use of puns. Keep it up!

I love this game! Everything about it is wonderful and it's very polished and fits the theme perfectly. Excellent work ! You could do a lot with this game and mechanics.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your kind words and playing my game! I really had a lot of fun making it, it has been the most complete and polished game I have made so far!

This is a delightful platformer with charming visuals and engaging mechanics. The gradual introduction of abilities and the unique zoom-out feature enhance the gameplay experience. Looking forward to seeing more. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing my game! The zoom-out was an unplanned feature that I quickly realized was necessary, so I am glad players are using it!

Didn't know that being a spider could be such a fun experience. Nicely done!

Developer

I am glad to hear you enjoyed my game, thanks for playing!

This was a really fun platformer. You did a really good job letting the player find each power up naturally to complete each section. The mechanics were all really well done. Excellent job!

Thank you for playing my game!

Easily the cutest spider I've seen in this jam! It's adorable!

Over all it's a great experience, I especially like how the end screen zooms out to show what the world looks like from a non-spider point of view.

Getting new abilities gradually over time helped to keep things fresh and interesting.

I did have some trouble latching onto ceilings, I think I only managed it once. I also wasn't very good with the web swinging and ended up falling back down to the start of the level at one point. These are probably skill issue things. :)

The background music, or the rain sounds, seem to include a barking dog at times? For a long while I was convinced they were noises coming from outside.

I did miss one crystal somewhere, hopefully the other sixteen will be enough. For whatever it is spiders use crystals to do!

Thank you for playing my game and leaving such a thought out comment! I truly appreciate it. Maybe it is obvious, but my inspo for the spider were the dust sprites from Totoro and Spirited Away, some of my all time favs. Truth be told being able to climb on ceilings was a happy little accident that sort of just worked from implementing the wall climbing, so I should def go back and make it behave more intended. The background rain definitely has some extra sounds I didn't notice at first, so good ear.

I loved this submission! Fun action on the spider, interesting challenges and I like that you can see the play field of the picnic table at the beginning. This is impressive and from a one person team, even more so! Great job!

Developer

Thank you for playing my game! I had a lot of fun drawing out the playfield on paper then recreating it with tilemaps and basic sprites.

Wow!! This game exceeded all my expectations! It took me awhile to get across the pond in the beginning, but I’m SOOO glad I stuck with it. Once you get all those upgrades and you start swinging from structure to structure, it just feels so good! Sadly I got too confident in my swinging abilities and swung my way all the way back to the beginning and that ended my run lol.

This is going on my short list of favorites from this jam so far. Well done!!

Thanks for having fun with my game and sticking(spider pun) with it!

Super cute game, I loved the progressively addition of game play features and mechanics! Took a while getting used to web grabbing, but then I was flying, and it worked great together with the gliding mechanic. Also some nice considerations in the level design, and I'm glad that the respawning was quite forgiving as I sometimes died pretty quick haha. Well done with this!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad the mechanics felt cohesive, I did try to make dying as painless as possible!

This is great! I love the progression of abilities to reach different areas. Well done!

Developer

Thanks! :)

Nice little game!  3 simple mechanics that offer some really cool interactions.

Developer

Thanks for playing! :)

I love the concept of this game, and its graphics and theme fit together perfectly.  However, I can't seem to shoot any webs using the left mouse button, and I can't seem to float down the brick chimney even though the parachute deploys with the right mouse button.  Other than some tweaking or revision of the controls and related mechanics, this game is really fun to play and stands in its own unique genre.  Vaguely reminds me of Paragon's Spiderman videogame from the 1990s where you could shoot webs and swing from them to navigate.  Unique movement dynamic / mechanic.  Great job!

Developer

Thanks for playing my game! I ran out of time when trying to get art in and made do with what I could, so thank you for your kind words. There seem to be several random issues that popped up after building for WebGL unforunately, I hope to tweak and fix some of them.

Submitted(+2)

i LOVED the zoom out mechanic! i havent really played a game that has something like that, and it felt special. zooming out and seeing the world was pretty cool! good job on the game, it was fun!

Developer

Thanks! After playtesting a bit and realizing how hard it was to see where you glide or grapple to I knew I had to add something, I am pretty happy with how it turned out too!

Submitted(+1)

Some people with a fear of creepy crawlies might be too scared to play your game :) The spider moves just at the right spider speed. I like the zoom out feature and the way you respawn/continue after drowning. Was using a trackpad rather than a mouse, but my left and right tap/click didn't seem to work in the browser.

Developer(+1)

Haha I really did try to make the spider legs feel spidery and the movement feel right. I had several last minute bugs after building to WebGL it seems, I was trying to smooth it all out to the last minute! I am still pretty happy with the outcome and appreciate you playing my game!
