The writing and story are the main standout for me and the visual style is unique.. Fishing mechanic is a nice touch and worked well. Would be good to have a way to speed up or skip dialogue as it does slow things down a bit. I liked how it transitioned and the music/sound fit the mood well. Would have liked to see more as it pulls you in quickly

A strong start to something!

I enjoyed that you put fishing mechanics in.

There's a bit of a long pause between picking up an item and being able to close the window explaining that you picked the item up.

The writing is obviously the strength of the game.

The narrative told in pictures gets the story across well, however the difference between those graphics and the rest of the game is a bit jarring. I'm not sure if they're intended to be 'child-like' to show Patch's point of view because they're too good for children's drawings, but since they don't match with the rest of the game's aesthetics it leads me to believe that's what was being depicted.

Thanks. The storyboard ending was sort of last minute addition as we were running out of time. I like your interpreatation of it.

This seems to be such a cool game experience in every way possible. Great game submission!

First of all – it's too short! It pulled me in right from the start and I was hoping for more. The mechanics are great (especially the fishing one). I really like the visual style. Music and sound fit perfectly with the whole experience. The dialogues could use an option to skip or speed them up, but that's the only issue I noticed.

It's a shame there's no WEB version – that really limits the number of people willing to give it a try, and they’re definitely missing out. Congrats on finishing the game!

oh wow, I don't know how you render these graphics, but please keep doing that. it's so unique and does make me feel a little uneasy as well. the game feels nostalgic, even though I don't remember that games have looked like that ever. it's like: it reminds me of a childhood that I never had... woha, that's so on brand with your story though...  I don't know if I played too many submissions, but I am on a streak of games that feel kinda trippy and I am so here for it.

ps: something tells me, there's gonna be ultra-violent scenes at some point in the teknopunk universe. is that me projecting my own dark fantasies, or is there a violent subtone in this game?

Developer

Thanks. I'm currently planning an RPG game based on this setting. There would be combat. I'm largely inspired by PS1 RPGs so we'll see.

Great story and nice transitions between the scenes! I love the fact that you took the time to lay out the background through the great intro! Will be interesting to see what happens to Patch when he moves out!

Cool game! Is there a way to speed up the text animation? I noticed some windows would speed up when I hit return, but some would not.

Developer (1 edit)

Yea some events are unskippable. I should add a visual marker for them. As for text speed, v1.0.3 is a bit faster. I think for the full version, we'll add a choice of text speed in a settings page. Thanks!

I liked this one a lot! Reminds me of 'Gabriel Knight 2' visuals.. really nostalgic!

The premise is REALLY catchy!!

Like people mentioned, we all want more story! 😊

I love how the interaction bubble shows up when you are close to something! Love the fishing minigame too!

If I had to say anything would be to let people skip dialog or at least speed up the letters... I personally read fast and having to wait for the unskippable parts takes away a bit of the interaction... another small polish would be the 'recoli' time after you pick up an object..

Overall, great entry! I love the starting cutscene!

Would like to see more of this story!

Thanks! An acquaintance said a similar thing about the text speed. I'll look into it for the next update. Going forward I've been tentatively planning an RPG game that follows on from this setting. This jam game would serve as a prologue of sorts.
