One for me to go back to. Like the music and sound effects.
Pretty cool game. Interesting idea, and I liked the artwork. I didn't really understand what I was supposed to be doing for the heat & cold resistance, though.
This was loads of fun to play, loved the art style, music was nice and was a little challenging while somehow relaxing at the same time.
Really good job on this!
Reminds me of watching microcosmos videos on Youtube. Very nice.
Great game! Love the responsive gameplay and the minimalist artstyle! The concept itself is great and ties in very well with the theme, great job :)
i like the game and the art style is great.
Thanks for playing.
Gave very good score. All good, though a bit easy.
Gave very good score. All good, though a bit easy.
Really nice work here. Loved the different visual style and the simple but effective mechanics. I found it relaxing just exploring and dealing with hazards as they popped up. The art and music worked well together and made it feel quite polished. Nice touch with the hand drawn look. I liked how the theme of tiny world was handled with the whole Petri dish and cells idea.. fits perfectly. The only thing I found a bit off sometimes was the food and hazards spawning suddenly right on top of me, made things a bit chaotic. Would be cool to see some more progression or resistances if you ever take it further
Thanks for playing.
The object spawning doesn't really work as intended at the moment, but I have an idea on how to fix it.
I initially wasn't planning on carrying on with it, but more than a few people seem to be interested in it going further, so I might just give it a go. I don't have any solid ideas yet on how to expand on it, but I have a rough idea of at least one possible direction for it.
you could always just see where it takes you and what else you can get out of it :) Im sure you will work out the spawning issue
that was neat, I really enjoyed the art and music.
Thanks for playing, glad you liked it.
Clever game, loved the simplicity of it, it reminds me a lot of spawn at the start. Really good and enjoyable, fantastic job, a few things like resistance to germs would be a fantastic next step for this game, IF you want to take it further, i could definitely see this going well on mobile if you expand the game play in the right directions!
awesome game, really good job!
Thanks for playing.
As it is, there are a few small things that can be done to make it nicer and smoother.
With regards to expanding the game, I still don't have many ideas, I am considering going for a level based approach with each level having different hazards, more hazards or different combinations, and maybe looking at giving an optional progression for resistances with dna as the currency. Though I'm still not sure as ti's game was only really made for the jam, and made to be self contained, so any expansion would dramatically change the game as I currently see it.
Oddly enough, I kinda like the excitement of having to deal with sudden viral infection because the game “forcefed” my cell with tainted food! It does take it from chill to having this ebb and flow of chill and excitement.
This game definitely have potential to be expanded upon and it’d be awesome if you choose to in the future! One way I could see it expand is how building up resistances opens up certain areas, but closes others. For example, if you have hot resistance, then you’ll lose health a lot quicker in the cold environment. So to see what’s beyond the cold expanse, you’ll need to play a new game, or have the patience to shift your resistance?
I do hope you’ll reconsider the UI sound, though. The harshness of a square-wave detracts from the vibe of the game for me. But that’s just me :x
Overall, great job on this! And I envy you being able to keep the development time to about 20 hours! I needed all ten days for mine 😢
Thanks for the feedback.
I've only been at this for a year, but I have done a few jams in that time. I think it just means I've gotten more comfortable with the process. My last jam I spent 80 hours plus in a 7 day jam, but overscoped so it was all spent with little time to focus on making it tidy.
For this one I started a bit late and work has been busy, so I wasn't able to spend as much time as I would have liked on it, so I kept the scope small enough that I could get something done.
To be honest I'm amazed at the amount of feedback I've been getting for this game. For me it was a last minute idea that I could get done in the time frame I had. I'm glad I made a game during the jam, but did not expect it to be so well received.
With regards to the sound effects, I get your point but I don't have a large library of sound effects yet (good time to start I suppose).
Also, the force feeding is not supposed to happen. I think the loading lag between the trigger and the spawn creates this.
Congrats on getting it done! I thought the scope I had was small enough but admittedly, I spent half of the allotted time figuring out an acceptable solution for interactive grass. Partly, it was a learning experience, to see how much I actually learned and remembered with Godot.
I do find when we’re given constraints, that’s when we come up with some of our best ideas.
Never too late to start building it up! Just make sure to tag them by their sources and licences as well, for jams like these where you cannot use paid assets.
Bug? It’s a feature! ;) I kid. I found it amusing.
The grass in your game worked really well, I think I even noticed it growing back.
Regarding SFX, I try to make all my own assets. For this game. I made everything apart from the font (Fonts are quite complicated and require the correct software to make).
I know I'll get to a point where I'll need to use assets from other sources, but there are so many different licenses and conditions, that tracking them all, and any changes, is job in itself.
Well done. Maybe the best use of the theme I have seen
Thanks, glad you liked it!
A nice relaxing game with an interesting theme. Good work.
Thanks for playing.
This was a great concept and very satisfying game. I love the art style and it fit the theme really well. Well done on this!
Thanks for the feedback.
Glad you liked it!
This is a really well done and interesting game. I hope you release a full version, i would totally buy it...
Thanks for playing!
I'm not really sure how would go from here to a full game other than maybe following a few metrics to feedback how many generations it took to evolve, or maybe a few other hazards / different experiment set-ups ... I did want to set it up so that when you die, you don't just lose, but have the option to play as the last cell that splits off, but this cell would only have the resistance progress you had just before the cell split. At the moment they sit there and fade away after a bit.
If you have any ideas, I would be glad to hear them.
Maybe you could add a mechanic where, after surviving and evolving certain hazards your cells get different powerups, maybe the splitting cells could surround you and defend you in case some threat is nearby. The idea of playing as the last cell sounds nice, you could add some enemies so it's harder to have many "backup" cells to respawn to...
Anyway, great work, if you decide to release something more i'll be checking!
Quite simple and relaxing. Ended up stopping as i was spending quite a lot of time on it, but definitely a good job
Thanks for playing.
I've not made a game like this one before, and wanted to make it simple and relaxing to play.
Fun little game. Having a Petri Dish as Tiny World, I would say definitely winner for the Theme.
Sometimes the spawn rate for the food is a little too high. More then once I ate nearly a whole Evolution Phase without moving much. But this is really some nitpicking.
If I get the chance to update it after the jam, object spawning is on my list of things to tidy up.
Thanks for playing and glad you liked it.
I did consider going subatomic, but the problem with quantum particles is that one moment they're there, the next they're not, so I couldn't really pin them down to make a game.
If you stop one step ahead, and only go on a atomic level a nice Chemistry Game could be possible instead of a biology one would be possible. I like the way you think 😀.
left you a follow and waiting for an update.
Thanks.
Also, just realised that between our comments physics, biology and chemistry have all been mentioned - just an observation ...
Again I like the way you think. When you mentioned Quantum physics, I had to up the ante. Good Catch.
Excellent Game. Infinite movement. Eat and if the player gets a virus take the medicine and then keep on eating the food and remain virus free. Nice hand drawn look to the game and the food supply is always spawning around. I liked the overall idea. Keep up the good work :)
Thanks for playing.
Yaaay! Science! Such a cool realization of the theme - love the cute design and concept!
I couldn't do cells and not have the science included.
Thanks for playing!
