I'm not really sure how would go from here to a full game other than maybe following a few metrics to feedback how many generations it took to evolve, or maybe a few other hazards / different experiment set-ups ... I did want to set it up so that when you die, you don't just lose, but have the option to play as the last cell that splits off, but this cell would only have the resistance progress you had just before the cell split.  At the moment they sit there and fade away after a bit.

If you have any ideas, I would be glad to hear them.

Maybe you could add a mechanic where, after surviving and evolving certain hazards your cells get different powerups, maybe the splitting cells could surround you and defend you in case some threat is nearby. The idea of playing as the last cell sounds nice, you could add some enemies so it's harder to have many "backup" cells to respawn to...

Anyway, great work, if you decide to release something more i'll be checking!
