Theme interpretation
Escaping a prison is no easy feat. being a pawn trying to escape from the enemy castle with a wild magical bishop blocking the bridge home... That's a moonshot of an idea...

Superb unique art and very immersive experience!

I love how you can play around with the camera to boost your stealth accuracy. In my view, it would be nice to be able to speed the character’s movement up a bit.

Great submission! Well done!

Great art, unique as well as the atmosphere of the game!

This is a great submission! Not quite my genre, but I enjoyed playing it. The aesthetics are great too.

I think the enemies should have a threshold before seeing you, so they don't detect you immediately. There's a series of videos from GMTK that covers the stealth genre, so maybe you could get some  good ideas from them:

Once again, congrats!

Really solid entry. The visuals were super polished and unique. The gameplay was pretty simple, and maybe could have been improved by leaning more into that chess theme (perhaps an attack that goes diagonally, since you're a pawn).

The music was great as well.

Overall, great work for a month.

Great art style!

Art work was excellent. I really loved how those fire hangers turned towards you in what ever direction you go. How did you manage to achieve that? I enjoyed plating this game. Good work

Beautiful & brutal - great stuff.

The aesthetic is quote nice and the world has a good lushness and detail to it, but I feel like everything needs more feedback; more exaggerated animation and audio from things like the sword swing and the levers would have gone a long way to helping them to communicate what was going on. As it was it was sometimes hard to tell what the game was trying to tell the player, which is a problem when any mistake requires a full restart.

Still there is definite potential here, and the music sounds very nice!

Love the art style. Great work, I hope you keep working on it!

As everyone else has probably already said... Great looking art style :D

Very effective gameplay.

Nice job!

Awesome style- compelled me to stick with it :)

I loooove the art style, integrating hand drawn sprites into a 3D environment is my bag baby. It was also fairly clear what you had to avoid or go to by the simple integration of colour. Unfortunately I got to a point where I was simply swarmed every time I entered the area and had no idea what I was doing wrong, so I was unable to adjust my strategy.
Great entry.

Such a cool look an idea, really love the art style of this game. Like previous comments I think a checkpoint system would have been a great addition.

I really love the graphics and the style of the game. I also wanted to make a stealth game in the Jam but have been rejected by the team ;( The experience on the browser is not very ideal, frames are dropping and control systems to drop sometimes.

The paper art is amazing, really loved the ambient. FPS dropped a lot after the tree scene, so I could go much further. Good job anyway!

Submitted

Really good art direction, though a tad unforgiving.

Nice job.  I liked the art style and weather effects.  Starting over from the beginning wasn't so fun.

Atmospheric and spooky. Enemy intelligence and movement is a key element in stealth games, but here the enemies do not seem to be very smart. Unrelated to the theme as already mentioned.

Gameplay: It was a bit hard to figure out where to move so I got stuck on the second level.

Graphics: The atmosphere was very nice all the with all the dark colors.

Audio: It would have been better if it didn't restart when you died

Innovation: Its pretty innovative

Theme: You did a pretty interesting take on the theme

Overall: I liked it but it could improve by something pointing players towards the door or maybe a map

Can you try my game?

Developer

I will absolutely try your game, and you're right about the signs and feedback

black and white presents an interesting challenge... I didn't know what I was getting into before hand, and now its a REALLY interesting puzzle to solve.

The camera could be improved, but the graphics and music were very nice :-)

The clipping camera was an issue I ran into, and it never made it into debugging. I'm glad you liked the aesthetic elements. My partner and I really shine when it comes to that side of things.
