This is genius, playing 3 games of tetris in this way is so so good, and the twist where you can't put some pieces in some players is genius. Great work, one of the greatest ones in the jam.

Very original and fun idea! I would have liked it to be more clear when you can/can't send a piece to a specific board. This might be fun to expand into an asymmetrical multiplayer game in the future!

I'm not good at this game!

I think a slower timer would be helpful for actually being able to figure out which pieces to send where.  Maybe even get rid of the timer altogether in puzzle mode.

Also I can't see the entire game at once on my screen (1280×800 IIRC), even in full-screen mode; part of the score is cut off, as are the sides of the leftmost and rightmost players in frenzy mode.  (Also no pause button?)

Developer (1 edit)

I only ever tested the game in 16x9, so that's the problem. I'll try to get it to work better in the next version. I should be able to get a pause button in there too.

People have echoed the same thought about the timer! But before extending the timer. I want to make smart play more rewarded. With the current AI, you can get by pretty well with random play. And I'm not sure what the best way to fix that is gonna be.

Uoh, this game is catch me haha, it’s very nice. I liked how you combined tetris and the theme, I’m only the sender of the piece and the AI players have to put the pieces. You are genius, I like the tetris game and it’s worked very well.

I'm not sure what I was playing, but it felt fun! I think the tetris matching doesn't seem very logical sometimes though, as blocks were somehow able to move through other blocks to form lines. Still a neat take on the theme!

Fun and hectic game! I like it better when there is no color unmatching. Not very good in tetris but the AI seems to help me on that. I'm sure im not the first to poin this out but I was more concerned about the timer than putting the right blocks.  It was still fun to play!

I find the game too hard, but the idea is good. The color restriction seems unnecessary. I didn't find any difference between the two "game modes" other than the difficulty (why not calling them easy/hard then?). Cool game and very polished, congrats!

Wow, it was really fun. I love tetris but never thought somebody can show me something new :)

Such a cool idea and tons of fun to play!

Really enjoyed this, though, I admit, My first two times playing I was an evil RNG :D

A competitive mode could be really fun with this as well.   Wouldn't even need to change much other than allowing two inputs and only having 2 boards, possibly also a lock window so tiles aren't added right on top of one another.

Love the concept. really enjoyed playing as well.

This was a really fun game. Nice twist on Tetris that makes me use my brain. I also really appreciate adding the colorblind mode (as I myself am colorblind). Overall really cool game would love to see it be expanded upon!!!

Developer

I'm glad it was helpful!

Love tetris! The style of this is dope too!

Always great to see some twists on Tetris!

Really stretched my brain to the limit. I admit; I wasn’t thinking strategically about what blocks to give each player as much as I was just doing stress-management (try not to let the bar fill) and throwing whatever block would be allowed as per the color restrictions. This would be fascinating to play as asymmetrical multiplayer with friends!

Developer(+1)

Yes, it seems very consistent that people are getting by through rapidly sending pieces instead of thinking about what's best. I'm gonna need to work on the ai, either to be dumber, or somehow allow for more strategic play, as well as increasing the timer I think.

You could make the game two-player, so that the block you drop will go to a human player who has to spin and navigate the block to a good spot. It'd be kind of like a game of catch that way. Adding multiple human players could complicate that process.

Developer

I do plan to have multiplayer as a future version. But I still want the AI to allow for more interesting play - this actually seems like a beast of a problem, though.

This is really cool! I love the twist on tetris. The entire experience feels super polished and put together. I would have liked more of an ease into the gameplay, starting with maybe two players, and then growing from there? I think I would have really liked some growth, or change to the gameplay loop as I continued with the game. But again, this was crazy well polished and felt really good, such a good submission!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback, and the kind words! I plan on adding more explicit feedback, e.g. warning the player why they can't put a piece down, in addition to the shaking.

That was a neat little experience. Fun but a bit simple. I was expecting it to get even harder.

Submitted

I was terrible at this game, but it was very well put together - I wasnt sure what the colours meant, but again that might be because I'm terrible.

Fun idea!

Idea for an extension: You're also playing a game of Tetris at the same time, and you have to choose which pieces go to you, while also supplying pieces to others. Could make for some interesting tension...

Also it would be great to have keyboard shortcuts for selecting and assigning the blocks. E.g. blocks have letters, and places to put them have numbers. Q1, P2, S3. Primarily because I prefer doing things via the keyboard rather than the mouse :)

Finally a shameless plug (thanks to auto-linking) for my own Tetris spin-off:

this is a really cool idea and i really enjoyed trying to manage multiple tetris games at once! i am really impressed with the idea and it fits the theme very well!

Great game! The feel, the presentation, and that loop of tetris music is really catchy. I guess the only gripe I have is that the difficulty dropped off at some point. I was sorting blocks to players and seemingly could go on for ages. Dynamically adding more players, or random blocks of no matching color or ramping up the speed, might help achieve a more satisfying ending.

It's weird now that I think about it, that having to stop a game, because you don't die and "fail", is less fulfilling than actually dying...

Developer

Really, you think you could go on forever? That's super impressive. Were you playing with colorblind mode?

The speed that the blocks drop does increase, but the time to send a piece remains constant at 6 seconds, and I was actually planning on bumping that up for a post jam version.

Submitted

Maybe I was just lucky, I wanted to try again just now, but whether I set Colorblind Mode to true or false, I always get white blocks, weird...

I swear it was working fine when I played it just now. I played with color restrictions and felt the Tetris AI was near invincible. I didn't have to watch which block went where, I could just keep dropping them in and they would find a spot for it and score some lines.

Developer

Ah, yes, if the blocks were all white it removes a big restriction on piece placement.

The AI is meant to be smart, but not perfect. It will always do a clear if it can, and try to avoid holes.
