While I enjoyed this game’s atmosphere and commentary, the most important part of the gameplay: the platforming, isn’t executed very well. It doesn’t feel right to not be able to jump up when you’re under a building because there is no way to tell what’s a platform and what’s not. It should allow one-way collision so that being on top doesn’t fall through, but being at the bottom, you should be able to jump over. There is no coyote-time, controls are floaty, respawn time is too long, hitboxes of enemies are too large, and when you get hit you get repositioned to the same plane as the enemy with no invulnerability which means you can essentially get one-shotted. With that said, this game has some potential, keep it up.

Quite an engaging story and the atmosphere was crafted beautifully. Quite hard for me to get through gameplay wise.

Can't point to why I had trouble with movement but jumping with something other than up would have been nice. Also got knocked back into inescapable positions a few times.

But overall a great game. Just some minor things that need tweaking. Keep up the good work

Always love a small game with a compelling story! Sure, the gameplay is a little rough around the edges, but definitely isn't bad considering you did start using Godot only a few weeks ago! Also you have a devlog and that is awesome!

This game was awesome. Probably my favorite so far.

My one major complaint is the knockback whenever you come into contact with a person. I'd get sent back immediately into a different person, making me distressed again without getting a chance to do anything.

loved the story and the gameplay , very good game !

This is exactly what I do when I'm in public. One critique is to expand just a tad past the monochrome and use color to indicate what's background and what's a foreground platform.

Great idea! The gameplay and design could be more polished but that's a gamejam! So keep it up! Good job! :D

Loved the fresh idea ! Has a lot of potential. I would say that it needs some sort of contrast and needs more focus on interactive objects rather than backgrounds. Also control can be way more improved. The difficulty does bring anxiety tho.. not gonna lie. Overall cool concept keep it going :)

Nice! Always cool to see story based stuff pop up on jams.

The gameplay itself wasn't perfect by any means. Controls felt stiff and moving was too quick and sudden. Could have used some slight acceleration for a more precision. The "enemy" hitboxes were way too big, they manage to "kill" you far before the sprites even come to contact.

The house roofs felt awkward to figure out too. Would probably have been better if they were just background decorations and using actual platforms for platforms. The last interior level felt much better because everything was quite clear and no estimations were needed.

The difficulty was pretty much all over the place. I think the second and third night were the hardest while the last few were a complete breeze.

Was it just me or was the music only coming from the left channel? Could have used more sound effects too.

Oh yeah, the white flags, I thought those were supposed to be like checkpoints but I guess not. And now looking at other comments they mention those resetting your distress level. Completely forgot that was even a thing after like the few starting seconds. Didn't notice it affecting anything? Does it even do something or was I just quick enough and using the flag routes by accident?

Anyways, good job!

Great story and level design :)

However, it was hard to tell which part of the roof I could stand on.

Also, having to restart right from the beginning was a pain. It would be great to use them little, white flags as checkpoints as well as resetting your distress

Very cool idea, loved the story!

I sometimes got yeeted to the left. That was funny

The thing that mostly annoyed me was the reset timer. I get it, I died no need to remind me for 4 seconds I want to retry already!

Cool concept! Though there is some room for improvement:

  • The collisions of the wandering people should be smaller. Ideally for a platformer, the enemies or the people in your game should have smaller hitboxes than their sprite's size.
  • Some extra polish to the overall game would've been nice, e. g. more visual effects when getting hit.

These are just some suggestions that could've made the game more engaging and more polished.

This story is quite engaging and relatable, I pretty much agree with Warkus' comment below. Great job!

Making it so that the platformer levels are actually the dreams within the story is a great idea! Also good job on the writing in general. I've also liked that the texts weren't super long. Two things that could be improved:

  • Platformer controls are hard to get right! But it's very important for a platformer game to have tight controls that feel right. Right now it fells kinda floaty. There are tons of videos out there that will help you to improve that aspect of your game
  • It thought that it's quite confusing to have those flags in your levels that people might associate with a goal or end of the level (think super mario for example). I also thought that that marks the end of the level and wondered why nothing happened as I touched it.

Good job on finishing :)

I really this game. It's challenging and the story is pretty engaging. There were a few times where it kind of bugged and I would bump into a huge of people, but otherwise the controls and the levels were properly challenging. I think my biggest nitpick might be the music, which seems to play only in my left speaker. Great game, though!

As an anxiety sufferer myself, parts of the story resonated with me. I think with a bit more time and polish on the gameplay itself you could have an engaging game here. I like how you stuck to the 1-bit theme too. Overall a good job for your first outing with Godot, hope to see some more jam submissions from you in future!

Developer

Thanks!

Neat concept but stopped playing before finishing first level.  Mainly do to a mix of the thumping "Music" has some how given me a bit of a headache now and the controls felt very floaty.  Sorry seems neat just not a game for me i guess.

Developer

Sorry about that! The thumping was a heartbeat.

Submitted(+1)

Oh OK that makes sense ya the whole headache thing is more of a me problem still good job on getting a whole game done for the jam.

Submitted

The story is good but this game makes me remember my anxiety lol

Developer(+1)

Lol I made it because of my own anxiety so it was a bit cathartic for me

Diary was well polished, gameplay is in desperate need of polish, Maybe make the player slower?

Developer

Yeah, that could help. Sorry about the gameplay!
