Made me think about Megaman, I loved the level design, the different weapons, the juice of the game.. It is a really great game ! Congrats !

Developer

Thank you! I played my fair share of Megaman, enough to not want to use insta-death spikes in my games :-)

Great game! Music and graphics very consistent. I really liked the level design. At first it was difficult, but then I got control of the game and it was a lot of fun to play. Thanks for creating this game and giving us a good experience.

Great pixel art, music and sound effects! It looks and feel like a Game Boy game. The controls are polished too. To be honest, I couldn't play a lot because I got frustrated. It seems that I don't have patience and I'm not good at dodging bullets lol. I haven't played Cybernoid, so I don't know if it's intended, but some attacks patterns felt a bit random.

Developer

All the enemies and bullet patterns are deterministic, and each room provides a safe starting point so you can evaluate the situation before advancing (well, at least they should). Most of the charm of this kind of game is to be very challenging in a small amount of rooms, I tried my best to make each challenge fair and avoid cheap deaths. It'd be awesome if you could give the game another go one day.

Thank you for playing and for your feedback!

Sure! I liked the aesthetics a lot and the game is really professional. I'll give it a try again.

About the random attacks, there was an enemy that moved vertically and I think it was shooting bullets at different heights (it was more or less two rooms after the second checkpoint). Maybe I'm wrong! I should play it more focused one day, as there are lots of submissions and so little time to play them...

This is the best I've played yet! Fully realized and polished. Nice!

I could totally see this as a real gameboy game, awesome job! It looks & feels so polished and I loved the music and sound effects

The music was the biggest challenge, it's my first time composing a chiptune. I'm cheating a bit with the amount of sound channels, but at least it's catchy. Thank you for playing!

I really enjoy the level design and graphics!! :) Good job!

Developer

Thanks! I had a lot of fun making those levels.

Did I enter a time traveling machine? Cause this game sent me back!

Trully 5⭐ Gameboy-ness!

Awesome entry. Congrats!

Thank you for playing! Glad you had a bit of a nostalgia moment.

This was freakin awesome! My expectations were subverted at every upgrade!

Love playing as this "killer wasp"- I've never seen a Metroidvania where you can immediately fly. I was wondering how you could be upgraded from full movement, yet each upgrade was so freeing!! The bomb and the "Option" are so cool, and it's really satisfying immediately blowing up stuff after getting each upgrade.

Hmm, I got a bit lost after getting the Option..

Developer

Remember the place where you get the bomb (top left corner of the map, then right)?
There was supposed to be a memorable alien plant blocker thing in the top right corner, that could be broken with the Option. But I wasn't able to make that sprite in time, and the blocks that ended up there are very forgettable.

Thank you so much for playing!

WOW!

As someone who played the original as a kid on my C64, this is so, so, so good. In fact, I have reviewed over 50 games in this jam, and played about 70 in total. This one is surely the best. I doubt very much that I will play another game to match it.

Your game is so faithful that I even tried the cheat code that i STILL remember from the original - type YGRO (ORGY backwards) on the title screen.

Amazing game indeed, and for me, the winner.

Developer(+1)

The version I played back then was a pirated cassette copy that had a trainer with infinite lives, so I had no idea there was a cheat. It's certainly not super faithful to the original, I just made something that feels how I remember it, instead of trying to be accurate.

Thank you so much for playing, and for the kind words.

Extremely dangerous elevators, will be filing an OSHA report. Loved all your super-constrained details. Thanks!

Developer

I wasn't able to add any story elements in time, so stopping the evil space elevator manufacturers sounds like a good candidate. Thanks for playing!!

agreed.

It's so cool that you put your own spin on this concept! Everything feels and looks like a gameboy game! I admire your attention to that level of detail!

Developer

I had to fight back the urge to use tons of particles and effects to keep it believable. Also, the soundtrack cheats a bit with the amount of sound channels (the drums in particular). The original plan was to split the music in 2 tracks (melody and drums), and mute the drums when sound effects were played. But time is treacherous.

Thank you so much for playing and for your feedback.

Thank you!

I had a lot of fun and learned a lot this week.

Really well made! One of my favorites!

Wow, way to drop an amazing looking and playing game into a week long jam!
This is so much fun and a lot of content too!

Developer

The original plan was to make the game even bigger, but once I realized how long it took to plan, tile and test each room I had to start making cuts. I think short and sweet works better in a jam.

Thanks for playing!

Wonderful, if I didn't know any better, I would think its from a full dev team.

Developer

I had to scale down the scope a lot, and managing jam time after work each night was quite a challenge too. But I'm happy with the result.

Thank you for playing!
