Very responsive controls for WSAD+Space. Gamepad sadly only reacted on Button South for shooting.

When you click on the in-game settings menu, clicks still trigger a projectile (and you may want to pause all the game-play while the settings are opened)

I wonder if the planets (there seem to be just 6 of them though the description page mentions 12) are somehow suspectable to asteroid impacts at all, anyway..

While charging a planet's shields at one place I was pushed out of the planet's vicinity from an asteroid and the charge up routine started again in parallel... if you dropped out of the planet's orbit it should probably be interrupted and then restarted when you get back to it,,,

I loved the scenery (the place seems to be really vast, but maybe it isn't so much and it's the planets are really tiny :) ), and the sound track very much fitted the more sedate and relaxing game-play.

There could also be some interesting outcomes (achievements?) like getting rid of all rocks, and possibly doing so while not getting so close to any planet that you deployed any of the shields. :D

Thank you for the detailed feedback! It did start with 12 planets and I cut it to 6 right at the end simply to make the game shorter for the jam. The world is in fact infinite! I spent an entire day doing an infinite scrolling world - not that its really needed, but it's there anyway hehe. Nice catch on that bug with the asteroid kicking you out of deployment! I'll definitely have to squash that one!

I enjoyed the way the ship handles, flying around was very pleasant, blasting all the asteroids in my way!

Having a real voice talk to you is a great addition. Spamming the fire button to create a ray of death is also  great fun haha!

Some pickups / upgrades to the ship would be a very welcome addition!

Overall it feels like a polished game, thank you for making it!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I definitely think an upgrade system is in order from all the feedback it's got so far!

Submitted(+1)

Damn, plays so well, feels super polished. In terms of feedback for the game as is, maybe control of the ship would feel nicer if forward vector (i mean diection you are moving toward) would be based on where the ship is facing (not sure if that's true, that is something that needs to be tested you know). In terms of potential of the concept, you could make a banger rougue-like out of this if you add some ship upgrades, simple procedural generation and enemies to fight, i'd buy it the day it comes out and easily put like 50+ hours into it. Overall, great game, good job!

Developer

Wow I can't imagine anyone playing a game like this for hours! When I was playtesting it for the length, I had a timer running and I looked at the timer when I was getting bored and I was at 6 minutes lol! But yeah I think enemies is a great idea - just give the player something to DO other than just "go fly over here". Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

If you add secondary objectives and some kind of map changing (procedural or just a couple of premade ones) i can bet people would sink a lot of time into it!

Submitted(+1)

Nice little game! For a small visual feedback, I think it'd look nicer if the player's ship didn't have a while outline and instead had a visual representation of the shield (that maybe starts flickering when low hp), and for gameplay I think it would make it more interesting if ammo  was limited and there were some asteroids that drops ammo and health pickups, I love the way the ship handles and having something to manage and having to make the decision between "do I shoot my way through for points or try and conserve ammo" would be cool I think. Loved it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I wanted to put in a "low shields alert", though I was going to do it as another AI interjection but I just ran out of time sadly. I do thing the whole firing mechanics and options could be greatly improved though.

Submitted(+1)

This game is excellent. Everything fits well together, it's fun, coherent, long enough, tiny, etc
Though I don't think they will hire me for the next shield deployment session, especially with no starship license.

Developer

lmao! Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Hey its great to finally be able to play this game after having watched you build it up over the course of the last 10 days via your devlogs, which have been great and super informative.

  • I think you've nailed the game feel for this game - I actually love that voice that you've incorporated - its perfect for an 'on board computer' voice and makes it feel very polished and professional.
  • The 'feeling' of flying through space is also really good. The drift on the ship, the starry particle effect, the music - excellent.
  • I came across one bug which I couldnt replicate - when I follow the direction hud to the planet it told me that it was "10" to the right, but I couldnt see anything, and suddenly it became "62" to the more or less north.
  • You've given yourself room to build on this if you want to and add some 'salvage' in space like extra shiels or weapons - I think that the quality of this is good enough to be submitted onto a site like crazygames or poki just as it is, and definitely with a few improvements. Maybe check it out?

Super job.

Developer

Thank you so much, this is really helpful and kind! I wonder what that bug is?? I'd never heard of those platforms before but haven't checked them out, yeah I might just try submitting it once it's been polished up a bit more! Thanks again, really appreciate the detailed feedback :-)

Submitted(+1)

Well done!  Game looks and sounds great.  I came to the same conclusion as TimPickup, I found it easier to fly around without shooting.

Developer

hehe yep that is definitely the consensus! Bit of a failure for an asteroids game to be more fun to avoid the asteroids lol!

Submitted(+1)

I’ve been following the devlogs, and it was awesome to finally play the finished game! The art is fantastic, the music and voice work really bring everything to life, and the gameplay is genuinely fun and polished. You can tell a lot of care and creativity went into this great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words! I'm very much looking forward to checking out your game, I've had my eye on it a while during the jam!

Nice look and feel to the game. Steering and slight was very satisfying. I did complete it and found for the last few planets I realised it was actually easier to Not use my gun at all and just dodge everything at high speed. Maybe a timer to get to the next planet could add some pressure? Nice submission, congrats

Developer

hehe several people have said that they preferred to dodge than shoot and I did find that myself lol! Thanks for the feedback :-)

Submitted(+1)

The voice over, gameplay and controls all felt really tight and its well put together congratulations on great submission!

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :-)

mission complete! I loved the feeling of that endless space, you nailed it - the night sky looked beautiful. and the shots felt fricking powerful - I see you put some effort into these. but the winner for me is sound: that music SLAPPED but even better was the computer voice - that was self made right? I mean f*** computers trying to act like people! people acting like computer is the real deal.
1 (hopefully) constructive criticism: the shooting and the flying both feel really good, but they don't really support each other as mechanics yet - it was easier (and more satisfying because faster) to fly through the starfield without shooting at all.

Developer

Thank you for the awesome feedback! I can't take credit for any of the cool stuff though - the music and the explosions were third party assets and the voice was AI generated using ElevenLabs, all I did was told it what to say! Very good point on the shooting vs flying, especially as there's no real benefit from increasing the score... something to think about!

A very fun entry. I like the twist on Asteroids. I usually prefer auto fire in these kinds of games, but that may make this one too easy. I also appreciate the the brief break during shield deployment, it gives our fingers a little rest between darting around the planets. And for anyone else reading this: don’t click the mouse, use the spacebar.

Developer

You finished it, awesome! Yes I realise now this needs some work with the firing - maybe not auto fire but perhaps some potential upgrades to the lasers or something. I'll have to try it with the spacebar actually, I only used the mouse in testing and yeah, wore my fingers out lol!

Submitted(+1)

This was really fun to play! Like asteroids, but with an actual objective besides simply a highscore.

I'd say the highscore system is a little silly to have here, since it isn't used for much, but that's about the only thing I can really criticize. I was really hooked with this game! Couldn't stop playing until I had gotten all the planets. 10/10!

Developer

wow you played until the end, awesome :-) I wasn't sure I would do anything besides the core asteroids game at the start of the game so the scoring was added at the beginning so there was at least something to do if I couldn't add in the planet stuff :-)

Submitted(+1)

This was really smooth and so much fun. Love the visual style and the sounds here. Really impressive in such a short time - great work.

Great visuals and audio. I had a lot of fun just shooting meteors, then realized I was supposed to follow the arrow to the planet.  The credits button at the end doesn't seem to open anything up.  This has a lot of possibilities.

Developer(+1)

Ahh the credits run a sequence in the main text panel but if you didn't have the sound on, it's easily missed. Sadly it was all I had time to do with the credits!

Submitted(+1)

Either way great game!

Submitted(+1)

Just about destroyed my mouse with the number of times I just clicked haha. I had a good time, and it left me wanting a more, would be nice to see some more variety or maybe some sort of powerups of some sort.

Developer(+1)

Lol yes sorry about that! When I properly playtested it today I had the same issue and thought, damn I need either better guns or an autofire, but I had only a couple of hours left sadly. Thanks for the suggestions, good ideas! :-)

Submitted(+1)

The voice over was amazing. However you did that bravo!

Developer

Thank you, I can't take any real credit - it was AI generated through ElevenLabs!

Submitted(+1)

Excellent little game and very polished.  Nice graphics and sound choices.  The voice instructions are excellent way to explain the controls. The movement speed and inertia are nicely balanced.

Only suggestions are I didn't get any sense of time pressure, maybe if you don't get to the planets in time they could get destroyed?  Other ideas are a trade off between power to shields v guns v thrusters much like the old X-wing Star Wars games.
I really had fun flying around though, great work!

Developer

Thank you very much for the feedback! I hadn't really thought about time pressure to be honest, but that actually makes a lot of sense!

Submitted(+1)

Controls feel really smooth! Maybe add shield indicator around spaceship? Great job!

Developer(+1)

Yes that's an idea I was toying with, but sadly I didn't get time! Maybe, after the jam I can add it! Thank you for the feedback :-)

Submitted(+1)

A fun and polished game i cleared the first few planets.

On the left side you can see your hp dont hit too many asteroids :D and when i travel fast and shoot i can see when the laser disappears, the speed of the laser should have been faster.

Developer

Ahh thank you for the feedback regarding the laser!
