You know I want a mouse click based version mate :)

I would consider this a new mechanic, so not during the jam. anyway ;)

I basically did the left side first then split between the right and left - my brain got the hang of it eventually! Shoulda dug out my controller really to do it more justice.

Very creative, splitting your attention. I could tell the game wasn't intended for keyboard, but I wonder if controls-wise, it might work to just allow spacebar to work for both sides?
In terms of (unintended) bugs, it seemed if I missed a fly but still attacked that square, I'd get credit anyway.

But it's an innovative concept that I bet feels even nicer on a controller. Well done!

Developer

Actually I added keyboard primarily for debugging at first, then I added the diagonal directions as well... With some ideas I have for expanding the game concept, I'll likely abandon having multiple trigger buttons anyway.

The timing between the player interactions and the flies is a bit fragile, indeed. Good thing it errs on the players' favour :)

Interesting concept

Stuck to the theme and is playable! Well done!

Cool game idea! It does have a lot o potential and with a little more polishing maybe some more insects and levels it could be even better.

Developer

I had some ideas on that or how the base mechanic could be adapted and used in a different game context.

For the jam I just had to settle the scope for a viable core game-loop. And with the progress blockers during the jam (like the weekend event I traveled to), I just managed to get (most of it) in place before the weekend, complete the missing essentials on Friday evening and then had just a bit of time for polishing at the end. I certainly could have used more time for that...

This game has some potential to be really cool and unique. Admittedly the game should be played on controller but it was a pretty good challenge on keyboard! Good job :)

cool concept, could use a little bit of fixing. good game! :D

Fun idea. Love the aethetics and the mechanics. Feels slightly "buggy" (literally and figuratively)

I think to have the player use two hands to do 2 tasks simultanously is a super cool base idea for a game.
it seems to me the mechanic is slightly bugged though? it seems you can always kill a fly even when the field is empty?
and maybe instead of restricting the players ability to move with cool downs, why not increase the speed in which the flies spawn?

One can always target a field (if not in cooldown) and then try to hit. If you can magically spawn a fly into existence by hitting an empty field, that would be a bug (and not a fly).

Maybe in a future expansion it could be you actually move the frog between fields, so there is no need for an extra cooldown if instead one can only catch a fly if on the same field.

Nice concept, very original, though I did struggle with the controls a little bit. Its not the kind of game I usually play so I could probably get used to it with a bit more time.

Lovely little game :3 i almost caught all the flies but sadly starved at the end haha =p tho its a bit hard to controll both left and right sides maybe as a co op partner it would be even more fun !

Not an amazing score, but as long as my frogs don't starve!
I'm really bad at doing diagonals on a controller, thankfully the game is forgiving!

Pretty much a 2 player game :) can't quite split my brain to work on both at once :P but got some good bug splats in on either side :)

Nice going

Way to go! This feels WAY better than earlier. Good work on it. I love the artwork used.

Great job, was a bit harder than I was expecting. Love the concept
