Fun game with a lot of content and polish. The art is great. Liked the parody titles on the books and how equipped items show on Jac.

Developer

Thanks! Foster Turtle was responsible for those amazing parody books. He did a fantastic job.

Really amazing game! Very fun and incredibly polished. Liked a lot the voice over! Just think the boy could have been more of like a proper game boss. Anyways, very cool and fun game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing through it! I’m sure there’s room to expand on the boss fight with something bigger and longer in a future build. Congrats on getting through!

The level of polish is too much, the music, concept and controls are so well done. Unlocking skills was fun and made me want to move forward. I appreciate the small tutorial sections right after you pickup the new power up. Amazing design, one of the best I played so far.

Developer

Thanks so much! I’m glad you had a good time with it!

Great game. The art style, music, and voice acting was great and incredibly unique. I love how you gain powerups as you go along because it feels like you are getting better and gives time to let the player get used to the mechanic. Also the cutscene in the begging was amazing. Clearly lots of effort was poured into this and it shows, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the awesome feedback!

Pretty fun! I realy like the music and art! It's also neat that it's a bit like a metroidvania. It is a bit fustrating to fall al the way to the bottom though.

Please play and rate my game as well!

Developer(+3)

Thanks for the feedback! When we were brainstorming some Metroidvania's came up as inspirations!

Cute theme! Being physically inside a toybox is an unusual setting (in a good way), and I like all the little touches like the kid's hand throwing down toys. Well-made intro art and voice acting!

Got 18/20 jellybeans, on normal difficulty. Enjoyed platforming across books and toys and thumbtacks, fun to move around and make it through the obstacles, though it felt a little generic-platformer at times. The game felt about the right length too. I appreciate the concept of getting hurt flinging you down through blocks dynamically. However it feels bad when you get punished with getting chain-hurt 3 or 4 times in a row this way, especially since the chaining happens only sometimes / inconsistently. But it is a game jam of course, and I still find that concept interesting. Overall nice production value!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing through the game and giving us some feedback! Knockback chaining together seems to have hit a few people, dialing in that challenge to reward ratio is definitely something worth looking  at, if we balanced the game further!

Submitted(+3)

Solid platforming mechanics and I like how each mechanic is an upgrade as you progress.

Production value is up there. Music and audio sounds professionally done, and visuals were well done as well.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing through it!

Good job to everyone who made this, beautiful graphics and audio, love the mechanics introduced keeping the gameplay constantly fresh, along with the speedrunning tricks such as dashing and jumping straight after to get a speedy boost in the air. Well done!

Developer

Thanks so much! We had a ton of fun with the speed running mechanics. Glad you had fun with them as well!

The audio and visuals in this game is amazing. I also love how the game slowly introduced us to new aspects one by one, it made it easier for me to see the capabilities of the moves for myself before trying out new ones. I also never felt bombarded with controls due to this system. Amazing job to the team!

Developer

Thanks so much! We were hoping for a smooth learning curve since the game gets a little difficult by the end.  Appreciate the kind words!

Submitted(+3)

Yeah honestly nothing to add on beyond what everyone else has pointed out, to be able to tell a story in an interactive medium like this is no small feat and you and your team have somehow managed to do that with added polish in such a small amount of time. Bravo!

Developer(+1)

Thanks heaps for playing and the super kind words. Very happy you enjoyed the story :)

Submitted(+2)

Love the setting and music. Nice percice controlls. Always felt like my fault if I miss timed something. Only complaint was the tacs are a double edge sword. It can domino out of controll pretty early on when you keep getting chained on to tacs and loose a lot of progress. Wish I got the parachute earlier on to save frustration. That being said, this game will probably end up in the top 10.

Developer(+2)

Thanks heaps for checking out our game and the feedback. The idea was the power ups collected would make it easier and faster to traverse up earlier sections if the player fell, but totally understand taking multiple hits from tacs and losing a bunch of progress would be quite frustrating. Thanks for the kind words :)

Submitted(+2)

Oh yeah definitely, when I got the parachute though, I was like thank god haha wish it was a little erlier. I did get 19/20 beans though. Will go back later for 20.

Developer(+1)

Dang the other guys wanted to give you the parachute early and I argued against it. That's great feedback. Thanks a ton! And  like Sid Fish said, the idea was to make it much easier to climb back up once you had fallen with the new abilities, but it may make for a steeper learning curve than intended. Appreciate you playing through it!

Submitted(+1)

No problem, I respect your creative decisions though. But yeah way more relief when getting higher up!

Submitted(+2)

The voice acting is amazing! But I can't decide if it's a rage game or not, I fell down so many times XD.

Developer(+1)

Hi, thanks for playing and the feedback. There is a bit of a rage game element to it, the climbing and falling element was loosely inspired by Getting Over It :)

Submitted(+2)

I have sooooo many things to say about this impressive little platformer!

It has good audio, responsive controls, quaint mechanics, great graphics and challenging level design!

I hope to see your game development journey expand in the future!!!

Developer(+2)

Thanks for playing and the super nice words. We hope to keep expanding on and improving our games in the future :)

I am also a follower in your epic game, Pushy Worms! If you need level or dialouge design help, you can contact me at the Vimlark discord! Or the 8 Bits to Infinity discord!!!

Developer(+2)

Thanks so much, will likely reach out for some play testing later if you are keen :)

Submitted(+2)

Amazing little platformer and really loved the implementation of additional mechanics as you go! the world building with audio, art and voice-acting was a really nice touch! Kind of reminded me of fancypants with the level design and theme :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, happy you enjoyed it. Hadn't heard of fancypants but I looked it up and can definitely see the similarities in the style :)

Submitted(+2)

The games look good and plays great but it is a tad bit hard

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing through it! It can definitely be a bit challenging, but thanks for giving it a try!

Submitted(+1)

I loved playing it really it was fun

Submitted(+3)

Overall fun game, I spent so much time trying to get a bean before giving up and discovering the parachute which was literally 10 seconds further away 😂

Developer(+1)

oh yeah, that’s a tricky one!  The game is actually beatable  without it so it’s a little bit out of the way compared to the rest. Glad you had fun!

Submitted(+3)

Very good game. Theme are too far-fetched, not impacting the gameplay.

Developer

Thanks for playing the game!

Submitted(+3)

I'm amazed this hasn't got more attention already. While I found ties to the restriction to be a little loose, this is an incredibly solid game. The visuals are great, the audio is great, the platforming and upgrades are awesome and feel really good to play.

I played the normal and hard mode and both were lots of fun.

My only criticism right now is that you need an end screen for showing speedrun time properly as well as how many collectibles you got.

Anyhow, Kudos to your team for making this.

Developer

Thanks for the kind review! I’m glad you were able to play around on the hard mode as well! Hopefully you saw the speed run option there and got to speed run a bit! That’s an excellent suggestion for a dedicated timer and collectible screen and probably wouldn’t be too hard to implement. Will be a for sure on an updated post jam build!
