This was so well made, one of my faves this jam! I loved the minimalist art the music and sound effects it all went together very nicely. Good use of the theme too. I really loved that boss battle at the end it was keeping me at the edge of my seat so well done, this was spectacular! Enjoy the jam!

How does your game utilize the limitation and theme?
Our game is based on recovering Crystal gems stolen from enemies, player has to go to each room eliminate enemies and bring back crystal to owner. We also used a boomerang as weapon - we decided that since after throwing it returns back to you.
What was your team size?

Best game I played in this jam. Everything fits nicely together. Best example for less is sometimes better. Only critic I have is the missing tutorial, but that point was already mentioned enough from others.
5/5 so good! ☺
The only thing you need to add is a tutorial of how to play the game... (movement and throw/attack).
You guys totally nailed that art style. Cool retro feel while also playing like a modern game. I ran into a could sections that just seemed a bit too hard, but that was probably what you were going for. Music was solid. Excellent game!
Thank you a lot for playing the game! I enjoyed watching you play, and felt it was made maybe a little to hard! I beat the game in 7 min, but that's because I know the behavior of every enemy and Boss. I actually forgot to take off the controller Input, since player can run only 8 directions it feels weird. I recommend using (W A S D) keys, makes it much easier.
Hope you are able to play it again and beat the game! Thanks for the video and feedback!
Man, I just LOVE this kind of art style. Gameplay, sounds, everything looked so good. I tried to hit the boss in his death animation and that log that opens with the game gave me an error, maybe you can still hit him after he is dead? Probably something like that. Would definitely look for a full release of that game. Good job!
This brought me back memories... Art, sounds and gameplay all nail that sweet, sweet retro feel. but I wanna say that there seems to not have a way restore health, maybe pay the owner the coins you collect for hearts could fix it so you could easily do the game in one go, and the boss didn't had a audio cue for when you hit it. Fantastic game, would love to see it expanded in to something bigger post-jam!
This game was so cool! I absolutely think it should win the jam. It played really well and I loved the 1 bit style. Also the soundtrack was amazing!
I posted in your community post as well but I'd love it if you played my teams game. We also had the idea to do a boomerang but did a side scroller platformer instead.
Really cool game. I love the art and the music. Overall really great!
Good job!
Check out my game when you can and tell what do you think !
Simple idea executed perfectly.I love how the game looks so simple yet so beatiful :D.My only negative experience is that traps are too hard to notice.I think i have died to traps too many times becouse i couldnt see them.Other than that great work amazing :D!!
Pretty nice game! I really enjoyed playing it. A bit too hard for me, but its probably just the correct difficulty for better players. The Music was perfect and the rooms had really interesting strategy options. So sometimes I needed to hide before another enemy to defeat the first and things like this. Thanks! Really nice game! Keep it up!
Spirits! I am so happy Annuke told me to check out your game! Who knew a game could have such personality with just two colors. That was incredibly well done. The combat felt like a fully released game like Undermine. Great variance of enemies. And don't even get me started on that last boss. The last few hits had me on the edge of my chair.
If I had any suggestions to give it would be a warp point back to the hub after beating each level. Or at least I thought that until the last stage where getting back home was like a level in itself avoid the hazards. Also making coins useful for something would be nice (though they were fun to collect with their gravity effect).
Anyways great game, keep up the good work!
Thank you a lot for playing the game! Really glad you enjoyed it!. And I agree on the returning back to gallery owner, I was implementing a transition to go back, however I thought on the theme of the Jam "There and Back" so I was like if I implement a transition to return back, I might lose my points on the Theme rating, and also as you mentioned, level 2,3 and 4 have world hazards in which you can die from returning back to gallery owner. The coins, were for an upgrade system on boomerang and health with the shop owner, but did not implemented, because of time.
Thank you for the Feedback I really appreciated!
I think I spent more time on this game then I expected, here is some feedback on the game!
- I really like the color scheme for this game and all the art made for it, really cute and simple, the way I like
- The variety of the enemies makes you want to play more
- Effects and music are just perfect.. amazing job you guys did on it
- The difficult of the game is really hard, which is time-consuming and it's not very good for people that want to play lots of games on the jam.
- I really didn't like how spikes work, someone that wants to have fun and for some reason gets distracted can easily get to restart all the level because of the spikes... I would recommend spikes that go up and down every 2 or 3 seconds, which would make the player have more fun, at least on my opinion!
- For some reason I didn't saw anything saying how you can use your boomerang, happily I tested pressing Z and it worked, but I just realised on level 3 that I could use X to throw it, maybe I just skipped something.
But it's one of my favorites on the jam for sure, great job.
Thank you very much for playing Crystal Mission. Yeah, I 100% agree with the spikes! I wanted to re-implement them, but was working on the Boss for the last 8 hours of Jam, and unfortunately didn't go back to spikes.
Game saves some data in case people died, but I understand that people want to play as many games as possible so its hard to reach last Door which is the Boss fight.
I didn't have time for tutorial, but my game page explains has the instructions:
For better and easier experience I suggest using ( W A S D) Keys
Move - (W A S D)
Attack Swing ( J )
Attack Throw ( K )
Thank you for your Feedback!
Retro style, variety of enemies, basic gameplay and story, good sounds effects. I cannot finish it because it takes time, but the game as it should be. Great work.
Simple and sweet.
It's art style is simple, but everything fits in with that theme, so thats fine.
My only complaint would be that the game made my computer chug a little when coins spawned.
