There is a hidden room in my game with an easter egg sound file from when the music was being composed. There is a hint on how to get to it in my description.

Really nice game you've created! Downloaded the Windows version as suggested and I finished it. Nice feel to the character movement and jumping. Music and sounds were very fitting. Loved the idea of the costumes and the level design was good. I had no trouble working out what to do next or where to go.

The only negative I can say is that death came a little too suddenly and had no repercussions but that was a small thing for a jam game really.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for getting to the end, and I appreciate that you took the extra time for the windows version, it has a few extra details I love that didn’t make it to the HTML version due to time restraints. And yeah, the deaths seem to be the biggest problem for a lot people so I’m going to get right on those! I think I’ll have a much better system in version 1.2 :)

(+1)

Yeah it had some bugs but overall it was a great game, i liked the game idea, the characters were cute. Next time you should leave the last day to fix build bugs, they always appear.

Feel free to check out my game, it will mean a lot to me

Developer

Thanks for playing through it! Yeah I’ll definitely have to work on making that HTML port a priority in the future. I’ve never had problems getting one to work until this one, but this is also the biggest game I’ve made by far with the most unique code, so it makes sense I would see it here. I definitely learned a lot and I think I’ll be able to create a much more stable HTML port in the future :)

+ Great aesthetic
+ Loved the cute sounds
+ Interesting mechanics
+ Great level design, especially how new areas become available as you unlock different outfits

- Maybe adding hitpoints so you don't instantly die would be nice... I felt a bit punished a couple of times...
- Camera was a little odd at times... I think it just needs a little more polish

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing through the game! So glad you appreciated the level design as that was quite the challenge to get right!

Hit points seem to be a huge thing that people want. I left them out intentionally thinking each little room could be it’s own celeste like puzzle, but it definitely didn’t work quite that way in implementation. There weren’t enough checkpoints I think for that to work the same. And I initially had a smoother slower camera and made it go faster which was probably not smart in retrospect. It’s just a little bit too fast when it updates. Also I think for a future build I would have less “rooms” are more sections where the camera follows the player since I think the camera bothered some people.
Thank you for all the feedback!

I love this job. I played it for rating first, but i think, i can play it sometimes. Sounds and graphics are good. Animations are nearly perfect. I like the level design. Wonderful job.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing through it!

Very nice game! Liked the idea of changing costumes but the act of doing so was a bit difficult in some situations.Resulting in dying because i was to slow or overshot the costume i wanted. But all in all great game :)

Developer

Thanks a lot! Yeah I’ve been brainstorming solutions like only letting you have access to a few costumes at a time or a costume wheel, or maybe even assigning abilities to different buttons and auto changing the costume when you press it. I’ll be sure to have a better solution on the next build!

Submitted(+1)

Oh wow! I love the idea of getting different powers by changing your costume! I'd like to see a more polished version of this. The only comment is to maybe have the camera not do that weird panning thing when hitting a certain height (I'd much rather prefer the camera follow the player at most times) Other than that, great game!

Developer

Thanks for playing through it! I will definitely have the camera improved in the next update.

Wow this is very well made.

Thanks so much!

Incredible! I loved every moment of it, I felt like was playing a demo for a complete game. Everything was super fun, well-designed and polished! It even had a cool little message and lesson at the end!.

I'm glad I played this! I hope you expand on this idea with more costumes, more levels, more bosses, just more! Amazing experience, I would definitely buy it if you ever made it a full game :)

My one note, is that I would've loved to use WASD instead of, or in addition to the arrow keys to move (but thats just me).

PS: Always nice to see a fellow GMS2 user :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I didn’t say it anywhere so there’s no way you could have known, but I actually put WASD as well for the same controls just for people who didn’t like arrows. I tried to make it as user friendly as possible!

And I’m so glad you made it to the end! I think it works so well as a tight experience, I wonder if I’d be skilled enough to keep the charm while still having a full fledged experience. I’m so happy to hear there is interest in that though!

Cool game! i loved the jutsu character the most! Naruto-like? Great execution and fun to play!

Check out my game when you have a chance!

Developer

haha yep! That was my copyright friendly way of sticking Naruto in there. I don’t know if you caught the quote “have faith in it” but that was basically my alternate translation of believe it. And yeah, I always thought the substitution jutsu would make for a hilarious dash :)

Thanks so much for finishing it! I’m sorry about your spacebar haha

I liked the style of your game. It seems pretty complete. Only the tutorial was a bit fast, but your game is not the only one suffering from this :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah my wife said the same thing about the tutorial...I’ll have to update that!

Submitted(+1)

Same here. Lesson learned from this jam: listen to your wife more carefully xD

Submitted(+1)

Adorable graphics and understandable controls!

I can learn a lot from you!

I also wanted to thank you again for providing an in-depth review!

Outstanding job!

Developer

Thanks a lot! And it was my pleasure playing through your game. I love being able to share some real time feedback. I had so many thoughts after playing my first few games in the jam that I’m actually saving time usually by recording it!

Wow, that was cute! Graphics may seem simple, but it has it's charming atmosphere, the music and sound effects are great too.

Didn't expect to see a 'metroidvania' game in this jam, so that was a good experience!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing it! Yeah it was tough to do the Metroidvania with such a short amount of time, but I figured since this one was a week instead of 48 hours, it was now or never :)

Submitted(+1)

What a fun little game, and well polished as well! Very good audio!

Developer

thanks a lot! Yeah I’m definitely most proud of the music in this one

Submitted(+1)

This is technically a very well made game well done! I can tell lots of work went into this. I like the fact that you can unlock new abilities that help you progress through the levels.

Developer

Thank you! Yep it was definitely a lot of work but we’ll worth it!

There are so many entries in this jam about collecting coins, at last I come a game where I get to spend the coins! And on something awesome! This game is smart, cute, and focused. One classy detail I especially appreciated was the arrow pointing to the shop. Great job.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! Yes I’ve played quite a number of coin collectors in the last 48 hours as well haha. I’m glad you liked the abilities! It’s always nice when the collectibles have an impact in the game I think. And I’m glad you liked the arrow too. I almost scrapped it because I assumed the map was only 5x5 screens wide and no one would get lost, but I think it helps orient you, especially when you’re just entering.

Submitted(+1)

Your game was so fun to play! I loved everything from the cute characters, to the fun gameplay, and to the touching message. It was very polished and I had no complaints when playing. Fantastic Job! 5/5

Developer

Thanks so much! I was really proud of finding a way to get a positive message in a game. I think most people don’t expect it :)
