How does your game fit the theme?
The player character is constantly "growing" so their size is "out of control". Moreover, the antidote they need to assemble changes every 17 seconds (so the solution is never the same) which represents how volatile the cure is and how that is "out of control" too.

Did your team create the art for this game during the 48 hour time slot?

Cuttest game in the jam!! great job boys!

Developer

🏆

I would like to thank my friends, family and all giraffes for this achievement :')

Creative idea! The art style is very cute. I would love to play a full release of this one! Well done!

Submitted(+1)

Very pleasing visuals. I wished the camera would be a bit further away from the character, or maybe it zoomed out as the character got bigger. Great job on the entry though!

Developer(+1)

A lot of people have brought up the issue of the character covering the screen, but the solution of zooming out is a first! Thank you :)

I've also considered making the screen larger (so growing won't cover the screen as much). Thank you so much for playing! (and I really liked your entry too btw, super cute!)

Great presentation but I'm not a fan of the growing as it leads to a positive feedback loop where players who are doing poorly will just continue to do worse. Very cute and fun to play though!

Developer

"positive feedback loop" eyy! GMTK terminology (I first learnt of this from his video).

It's intended to have that effect as it gets harder to win over time. But to balance that, I hoped that having coins around the map (if you have time to collect them) means you can stock up on them and reroll the objective to end up getting something that matches your items.

Thank you for your feedback and for playing! :)

Overall a neat take on the subject! I loved the presentation, like others mentioned the growth made it hard to see what I was collecting, but that did make me feel out of control. Cool stuff!!!

Developer

I originally had a larger screen (but there was some UI issues and I had to cut it down by the end). However! After the jam, I'm taking in all these notes and I'm making changes and additions to the game. The first thing on that list is definitely a wider screen (so growing isn't so bad) and making growing have a larger effect (also adding a tutorial stage explaining the controls).

Thank you so much for playing and your constructive feedback! :)

Submitted(+1)

As others have mentioned, the size of the character taking up most of the screen makes it very difficult to see what you are collecting at times, interesting take on the theme and quite fun to play.

Submitted(+1)

It was cute, though a bit confusing at first, plus it's kinda short, and i din't feel like the size groeth affected too much. Still, the style and solid gameplay loop make it stand out!

Submitted(+1)

Fun and cute! I think a wider view area would be helpful, sometimes I couldn't tell what an ingredient was until I was almost in the hit box. I also think smaller hitboxes to avoid accidental pick ups would be good! It was fun once I got the hang of it!

I really like the cute art style and music :3 . I think the antidote requirements chaneg to often, and i can never seem to get the correct things in time. I think some sort of sound to tell you that it changed would have been nice as well. But except from that a very good concept, and the art it amazing

Developer(+1)

I should've put this in the about section (or in a tutorial stage which I've considered adding). But when the marshmallow panics you have 5 seconds left to get the items, and when it has a surprised face (with the exclamation mark) it means the objective has changed

But thank you so much for playing it! I'm glad that you liked it :)

It was a little bit too random sometimes, but I know it's hard to balance the game in such a short period. If you add some visual feedback, techniques for helping to find certain things, the game will be really cool, because it's fun and looks adorable! The visuals are so pleasing, especially for a game jam. Great submission! P.s. the thumbnail deserves a separate like ahah

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you appreciate the thumbnail (DO NOT FACETIME YOUR GRAVE AT 3AM *OMG HE ACTUALLY ANSWERED*?!) XD

For it being too random there's the roll option, but in the original build I made it 23 seconds (instead of 17) but I felt that it would be too easy? Maybe I should keep the longer time so the player has a better chance of getting the items they need. And yes! Visual feedback as to where items are is a great idea :) I'll definitely keep this in mind.

Super Cute art :)

I wasn't able to find some of the necessary parts some of the time which was sad :(

Overall cool game :D

Really cute art style!

The game presents itself really well, and the gameplay is engaging!

I would have  loved if getting bigger had more impact on the gameplay, like not being able to pass through doors or dodging hazards.

Developer

Growing does have an impact, but I do agree that it could be more obvious or have a larger of an effect. Growing larger covers up more of the screen (so you can't see) but on the other hand it makes it easier to pick up items (as you have a larger area). But also growing does slow you down more. Thank you for the feedback and I will definitely think about growing having more of an impact :)

I really like your smooth artstyle

Looks very very cute

And I like the challenge but I think I didn't find a triangle on the map

Maybe that's what a reroll option was for(изменено)

Good job anyway

Really cute game! I had fun with it, I think it may a bit too random. since the recipe and location of the ingredients are random you are basically running around just hoping what you are looking for is there. But that is kinda part of the fun is the fractiousness, I never found myself re rolling or even really looking for coins as going to fast would result in my losing my color that I needed. But its impossible not to enjoy this entry for its great art and cool concept. Great work!

Developer

The coin system is to help "equalize" the randomness so you can invest in re-rolling. Also the "NOT" condition was added so that players wouldn't be looking for specific items all the item (e.g. "NOT green" means you can put both BLUE and RED). But I definitely will keep in mind that it may be "too random". Thank you so much for playing and I really appreciate the constructive criticism :) I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+1)

Nice small, very very stressful trying not to hit all the wrong things, realizing you press "roll again" and you get new set of rules and sadly dies... However I won at least once!

Submitted(+1)

I very much liked the cute aesthetic of this game! The marshmallow is a very simple but likeable character, and I can definitely say that I haven't seen the idea of a player character physically growing out of their own control as a mechanic in other games yet. The gameplay is pretty neat, though I was absolutely terrible at it because, well, either the different things change location every now and then, or I have a terrible memory (probably the latter). :P I liked the game, and the music is neat! Nice work! :D

Also, here's a bit of bad fan art for you:

Developer(+1)

Your work, sir, should be at le Musee d'Orsay. Thank you so much for playing and thank you for the fanart!!

I was baited by the cuteness, ans I love it. Thanks!

Developer

yesss!! <3 Thank YOU for playing.

Submitted(+1)

This looks really cute - played it for a bit and was sad that it was so short in the end; with only one objective at a time it didn't end up feeling too out of control - wish we had more to play!

Developer

I've been seeing feedback and I realized that not everyone is going to read the rules before playing. So now I'm considering adding a few tutorial levels to get the hang of mechanics, and the levels can get increasingly complex. Maybe I'll make it longer in a REDUX version. :) Thank you so much for playing!!

Really interesting concept, very smooth gameplay.

Really enjoyed it once I figured out what was going on.

Developer

Thank you Malyven! You can always check the "about button" in the menu or  under the CONTROLS description in the  game page for clarification :)
