Clever concept. Got stuck as wing ball behind the upper right bumper, but other than that it's a fun game. Wish you could select weapons easier and see their specific gimick as an instruction.

Brilliant game idea, I had a ton of fun with it

A nice concept of removing the flippers from pinball. I'd like to see a better way to get the ball unstuck besides forfeiting your current game to restart. I'd also like to see the ability to pick your flipper replacement (you could have high scores for each type too).

Developer

Noted if I ever get to expand the game. Thanks for playing! :)

This is glorious

One of my favorite game so far, I love the multitude of mechanics you were able to put in there.
Great job!

Multiple solutions to the problem of how do you do pinball without flippers (Breakout being the most fun), and it's a fairly solid implementation of the concept. Unfortunately, I've weirdly seen this concept before? Even ignoring the first decade and a half or so of Pinball existed before the innovation of flippers came along, the PS2's Flipnic's fourth world was pinball with breakout paddles rather than flippers, which dilutes it's effectiveness for the jam for me. Saying that, it's a great game, and I hope you polish this up while adding more tables after the jam.

Developer

Oh, I've never heard about Flipnic before! Might have to dust off my PlayStation 2 that's laying around.

Flippin' Aye! I love how you took the pinball concept and mixed it with breakout!
And you could've left it there, but ooh no, you did not! You went all the way, what else can we do this with? And my gosh is it addictive like the real pinball :P

Zero out of best! Amazing game :D

Cool idea and I love the substitutes that you have for flippers! I did find that the ball can often get stuck in the top right like so:  and it happened with different upgrades too. Also, if you have the portal gun and you try putting it back into the launcher on the right you can get two upgrades going at the same time, the gun and what ever else you are given. Just wanted to point these out so you can know if you decide to continue with the game! Your execution of the idea was really good though and these bugs were only minor ones. Nice job!

Developer

Thanks, mate! I realized after publishing that the ball getting stuck there was a common bug. I normally don't like patching games up after release, but after the jam ends that's gonna be patched real quick - for now, you can restart by pressing R. Also, I've come across the two-at-a-time bug and that paddle on the left was supposed to fix that, but I wasn't creative enough to think about putting the ball back on the start with the portal gun. Thanks for the heads-up, I'm happy you enjoyed it!

I really like the idea, and kudos for implementing several ideas instead of just the one. But I felt like the ball moved a bit too fast for everything but the Breakout paddle and wings.

It would be neat if you switched power-ups in the middle of the run. Like have some spots on the board that give you a big bonus at the cost of randomly changing you to another power-up. That way you gotta stay on your toes the whole game and can't get comfortable with just the one thing.

I'd totally be interested in seeing this fleshed out into a full game.

This is great, I'm glad someone else had the idea to take out the flippers for pinball as well. The inclusion of different power ups for each playthrough was really creative and added a lot to the re-playability. Very impressive. My only qualm is because it's random I can't experiment as well as I'd like to with some of the items like the sticky bombs. My favorite abilities were the wings and the brickbreaker paddles, the nerf and portal guns were a little bit difficult to manage but it was still fun to experiment with.

Now that I think about it, a sandbox/choose-your-own-weapon game option would have been really cool. Thanks for the comment!

This is awesome! The wings and nerf? gun were a little OP, and I couldn't manage to get a save with the portal gun. Tons of fun though, one of the best I've played so far. :)

Fun and original! Also nice art style! Good job :)

Nice! Like the way it switches things up.  Some of these feel like they could be part of a "pinball but with powerups" game.

Submitted

That portal gun needs to be buffed, wings are OP.
Anyway, great concept.

I like the concept. I don't know if it's intentional but some of the items you get are clearly better and more fun to use than others. Aside from occasionally getting stuck it was pretty fun.

Developer

Not really intentional - some items are somewhat unbalanced and I only realised while in the last hours of development. Collisions are a bit wonky,  you can technically restart by pressing R but that's completely my fault. Glad you liked it!

What an interesting idea!! I loved all the abilities you have, great twist to the classic pinball. At the moment, is one of my favourites, good job!

PS: I also liked a lot the music and the drawing style!

Submitted

Very nice idea! Loved how you had a different way of controlling the ball at every life. It's a great game!

Cool idea, like flippers, really hard
