Nice game! Cool concept, I like the twist of you being the video game boss yourself. Also nice graphics and sound. Killing the red ones is really difficult but the difficulty curve is really nice. I would only say, that it would be a bit more intuitive to have the controls as keyboard keys instead of having to alwaysmove the mouse to the small buttons. All in all, great game, well done!

Great game! I love the interpretation of boss, it's kinda like donkey kong, but you are the boss. The on the edge part was also an interesting take, where you are in the middle, but on the brink of falling. The animations and pixel art style really brings back the good ol arcade times, and the music and sfx are also fitting with the overall style of the game. The difficulty ramp is nice, the beginning is easy, but it gets more hectic over time. I love the simple yet effective controls, only 3 controls, but you get so much out of them. The bam thingy is a really great idea, and the uses of them are more than just for killing red enemies, I just like controls that serve more than one purpose. And I actually could see this as a mobile game LMAO. great work! got a high-score of 18600, I don't know if that's good or not.
Thanks so much for playing! That is the second-highest score I've seen. I haven't even scored that high! The first record was set at 12,400, but then bl4st down below posted an insane 47,300 and the closest another user before you came to that was 15,000. So you're the silver medalist in the Chonky Bam Olympics so far!
I got so much great feedback from other users and wonderful praise from folks like you, I decided I'm going to post an update with the suggested changes from other commenters post-jam. Thanks again.
I love it, right in the nostalgia feels. Fun little game with a nice ramp up on difficulty. Great job!
Really cute pixelart. I like the chill music. The take on limitation and theme is good. The polish is well dosed. Of course a working fullscreen and arrow key will be welcomed. But overall that's a great minigame.
Thanks so much for playing and the compliments. I just couldn't figure out how to get the HTML export to work with fullscreen, but the windows version does. I was too close to the deadline to keep fiddling with it, but that's going to my my job next week. Make sure I know the code to include for html to run in full screen. That's a necessity for jam games and I flubbed it! I've heard and totally agree on the keyboard control feedback. I think it'll make the whole thing much more enjoyable. Thanks again!
Really nice and polished game! Art looks super nice and the music sounds good and fits the game really well. Those red guys are really tricky and i hate them so much haha. Highest score was like 15k or so and i thought it was pretty good till i saw the screenshot. BAM took a while for me to understand i thought you were just smacking the ground for no reason but i figured it out later. That probably has something to do with me just jumping into the game and trying figure things out myself. Not always the best way to play =) I would've continued playing if my arrow keys worked. Overall great game! Well done!
Thank you for playing and for the feedback. And 15k is nothing to scoff at! Beat the first user highscore ... but bl4st was on some next level stuff when he had that run!
My biggest takeway from this jam entry for future ones is that I need to build int he tutorial ... even if I'd just had the image I put in the description appear after the player hit start and before the level began it would help reinforce the BAM purpose.
Keyboard controls is definitely the way to go. It's so obvious now, but I was so focused on mouse only while developing I didn't think to let it go until too late in the jam. Thanks again!
Nice game but it's a little difficult which makes me try again and again!!!!!!!!!
Great game! You also took the approach of playing as the boss! Your art is absolutely perfect and the game if very polished! It is very addictive and I like how you only get 1 life, makes you wanna try again and again!
Caught this on stream and had to give it a go, nice little arcade game you could waste a lot of time on. Only thing missing is those keyboard controls
Really great experience, I loved getting to play as the big boss of the arcade game, definitely felt like I was eating the quarters of all those little guys running at me, haha!
Great job, I really liked it! :D
Really cool game - was fun racing against the AI to get my barrels and timing them properly. Super polished arcade style gameplay - really taps into what makes those games great!
Great Game! Enjoyed being on the other side of the barrels this time around! The Graphics were very well done and overall its a familiar game design with a switch in roles. Very good job on this project and i appreciate playing such a fantastic game!
Cool twist on donkey kong !
Was fun and challenging once I understood the bum to kill red ones. I didnt get what the bannas were for tho.
Cool game !
Thanks so much for playing. If I could go back I think at the start of the second wave I would have sent out a lone red zookeeper and not started the wave again until the player took him out so hopefully they understood you have to bam the barrel into his jump. That's what's so great about feedback in game jams. You learn a ton. Thanks for sharing.
The yellow bananas increased your barrel armor, so one barrel could eventually take out three zookeepers before bursting. The sprite for the barrel even changes, but I don't think it's nearly noticeable enough. The green bananas reduce your recovery so you can press the action buttons quicker. Again, should communicate more clearly to the player. All great feedback and things to think through if I want to update or for future jams!
Classic idea done well, great job! I really appreciate the small details, like the day/night cycle and the flavored game over text. And of course the art is fantastic and a really good fit for this game. I'm also always appreciative of people who used the "My Own Noise" diversifier :) [I think technically this is a one-button game too?]
For constructive criticism, I definitely agree with the comment below about being able to use additional control schemes rather than clicking. I'd also add that I wish the BAM cooldown was desynced from the barrel- at a certain point the red zookeepers were unstoppable because you couldn't throw and bam them in time (only one or the other) and that doesn't feel great when you're stuck in a losing situation
Ever had a total facepalm moment? This right here:
I wish the BAM cooldown was desynced from the barrel ...
It's so obvious now! And simple. I just needed a different timer and variable for that action! And I agree it would make the game so much better. Thanks for playing and for the excellent feedback.
Hey, cool game, works well and is like an arcade coin machine game indeed.
While it is donkey kong -like game, it has it own nice spices on the playable banana split.
I would change the monkeys sounds to fix 8-bit theme, and then make the barrels more weighted and heavier on rolling. This could be playable on the mobile devices, while you can click the edges of the screen to roll barrels and by double tap to bam.
Good luck, this is a great Jam game. Hope to see it somewhere in the future. Don't make it to remind too much the Donkey Kong though (yeah, well... - lol)
Very nice reimagining of a classic! The implementation is great, graphics and sound are super smooth. Very addicting gameplay. Good job
The Game Is Super Fun! I Love The Donkey Kong Vibes Im Gettin' Here. It Hard, It Good, And It Has Good Art/Graphics. Good Job. Hope You Keep Makin' Games And Havin' Fun!
=D
