Great game! It looks very polished and plays very well. The art, the animation, the sounds are all very cohesive  and feel like a very professional pack.

Maybe a monkey thowing barrels lacks some creativity, but it makes the gameplay very clear and easy to understand. What I find hard is, that I feel very much out of control. You can spam left and right and things happen, but I am not able to find a strategy and if some zookeepers are on the ladders if a barrel rolls by, this is often times enough to  end my run.

All in all, a very good entry!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and the kind words. I've never done this much art for a jam game, and it was my first time tackling sound.

Your feedback is in line with what I've heard pretty clearly from commenters and watching streamers. I realize just how important it is to teach the mechanics of the game in an in-game tutorial. A lot of players didn't realized hitting Bam launched the barrel into the air to take out the red zookeeper, but you could also time your BAM to bounce a barrel off the opposite wall so it stayed on its current platform, so you could take out a zookeeper you just missed on the ladder if throwing again wasn't an option.

If I update this entry, my first task is building in the tutorial, then desyncing bam and throw cooldowns and adding keyboard controls! But I've definitely learned, whenever my next jam is, I need to think about how I teach the player to play in game from the start!

Thanks again for playing and being part of the community.

How in the world did someone get 47k??

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing, and your score is still a crazy good run! Third best I’ve seen.

Submitted(+1)

such a sad cross eyed monkey. Simple and quite fun mechanics. The red enemies are really tough, wish they were dumber. I would like to see more levels of this. Btw it took me a while to notice barrels could jump.

Developer

He's just looking at his nose! Ha! From all the feedback and watching some streamers and YouTube uploads I see just how vital it is to build-in an in-game tutorial. I agree about tweaking the red zookeeper jump so that they jump a little sooner, and I'd give the player more ability to bam sooner to launch the barrels into them.

Thank you for the feedback and for playing my game. I appreciate it!

Cute game. Love the art and feel.

I did find I did pretty well by just spamming though. 🤔

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and the feedback! I do need to make gameplay more intentional to prevent spamming. One thought is to have the powerups expire and place them in spots where you need to bam, so that way you have to choose whether to let your barrel explode on the zookeper, or jump over them and into the banana and vice versa. Some wave tweaking will help too.

Thanks again for giving it a try and your feedback.

Great game! very cool gameplay!

Developer

I appreciate you playing!

Wow, great game!

It was really polished satisfying to play, congrats on the solid jam entry :)

I found it very simple at first, but when the little guys started jumping over my barrels, things got serious hahaha

Loved the artwork, it is impressive you managed to do this entry by yourself. Congrats!

Developer

Thank you for playing and for the kind words!

Neat little idea, good job, was fun!

Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

That was great! Never knew it's tough work being DK!

Developer(+1)

Shhh. You mean, “CB.”  I don’t want Nintendo sending Chris Pratt after me!

Thank you for playing.

Love the art and sound effects!
Great music!

It's a very small screen to play on and it would be nice to be able to use the ASD or arrow keys for controls.

I got 6700 points before those red keepers ended me!

Great fun! Good job!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and that’s a solid score! I definitely should have gone with keyboard controls. And glad you liked the sound! Did all the sfx with stuff around the house.

Windows build does full screen but I couldn’t solve the HTML full screen issue in GMS2 by the time I realized it didn’t work.  It’s on my list of things to learn so I can improve next time. That’s what these jams are all about and I’m happy to be part of this great, creative community.

This was very fun. Great job!

Wow, this is really cool. Wouldnt have imagined being a donkey clone could be so much fun xD It gets tricky fast, and I was not very good overall, but still enjoyed the game very much.

Developer(+1)

I can definitely tweak the difficulty curve and teach the player the core mechanics in game. That's for a post-jam update, but thank you so much for playing and leaving your feedback.

such a cute game! loved the art and game play!

Thank you so much for playing!

My highest was 3300 (I think. The video will tell) What a nice but challenging throwback! :D

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and rating! I can’t want to check the full video. You played a couple of my faves from the jam. Thanks for recording it.

Developer(+1)

Watching you play and narrate was incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for that.

So the key to the red zookeepers is that you throw the barrels ahead and right before they jump you hit BAM and it launches the barrels into the air and takes them out.

I never really made that clear through gameplay, which would be the best option, but I saw you read the description and it’s not there either, but it is in the how to play image in the description, which you missed.

All excellent lessons for me I wouldn’t have learned if not for your video. You’re awesome. Thanks for being part of the community!

Couldn’t beat bl4st 😞

Quite liked it, I can’t really say anything different to the others.

I naturally went for keyboard controls and I love the art, it all fits together really well.

Pretty fun

Took me a second to figure out what to do (and i mean after first death)

It's like a Donkey Kong simulator

Submitted(+1)

Welp, seems like everyone else has said everything I'd want to say. So, take this as an echo (Cause I personally don't like typing redundancies. Somethin' weird with my brain), but I can add that if you do make that post-jam update, I'm definitely gonna come back to give it a shot. I can already see the sparks of a game that I'd put many hours into just to try for that high score. Just gotta get used to the timing, build a little rhythm, and then start soarin'! Well done on your entry

Developer

Thanks so much for playing. And, yes. The jammers have spoken and I couldn't agree with them more. Kind of kicking myself for not realizing it was the optimal control option earlier! Thanks for the kind words, playing my game and sharing yours as well.

Fun quick highscore game. i'm on #teamKeyboardControls too. and maybe being able to BAM when Monke is on barrel CD, I felt like you can get really punished if you happen to mistime one barrel. Art style is great. "Banan"

Developer(+1)

#teamkeyboardcontrolsandkickinghimselfnow here. But I'm just glad people enjoy it as is, so I'm more motivated to implement all the feedback ... and lucky for me it's a simple enough change.

Thank you so much for the "Banan" shoutout! It was my first time making sfx for a game.

Submitted(+1)

really fun, short, polished experience. graphics are good and tight. sound effects are on point. the music is pretty relaxing. i like it!

my only real feedback is keyboard controls, and the timing on BAMMING the jumping enemies was tricky!

great work!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing, and I agree fully on the feedback. Might update post-jam with all the great advice other jammers have been kind enough to share

Submitted(+1)

Really fun to play, short but really polished.

Also "day 15, still trying to keep Bam out of captivity."

Developer(+1)

Hahahaha! You made my day with that line.

I realized after I submitted how cruel it is that Chonk can never actually escape. I should have had an endless hi-score mode and one where you could break free to the jungle.

Submitted(+1)

Really fun take on the limitation !I would definitely play this at a bar on a real arcade for hours. I wish the game had keyboard controls but other than than it's really a fun arcade game !

And the "'nana" just cracks me up

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and the kind words! It was my first time doing my own sfx for a game and when I went to place them in I realized I'd recorded three different banana item pickup sounds and only one sound for throwing ... even though you do that more than anything! Even now I wish I hadn't cut the "carbs" voiceline sound effect! Here's one voice role Chris Pratt ain't getting!
