I think controller is super smooth, love tiny screen shake at stomp. Leaderboard score impulse re-playing it

Nice game! I ended up rage quitting... :P

Really nice. The particle effects and post processing were all perfectly judged for my taste, and the controls felt tight. The tutorial is super minimal but enough for you to immediately understand  how to play.

As everyone else has said, the leaderboard immediately takes this little ran-gen platformer game to a solid and competitive arcade experience. Really nice. If you want to continue adding juice tweaks, randomizing the jump sound might be an easy way to prevent the game from getting tiresome to listen to.

Really nice work. The effort is evident in the simplicity !

Quite liked the gameplay and love that you made the leaderboard work (remembered the discussion in the forum when I stumbled onto your game). Only thing I didn't like about the game is that I suck at platformers. But that's nothing I can hold you or the game responsible for ;)

The online leaderboard is very cool, especially for a jam game. It's something I wanted to do but thought it was definitely over-scoping, so i dropped the idea. I also like the try counter that really reminded me how much i sucked..

Developer

Thanks for your response. (I have spent way too much time on making tutorial so easy to understand but I find it obligatory as for a gamejam game because people just want to get right into the game without reading any shit)

Submitted

That was something i definitely lacked in my entry, and if there's anything i've learned from my first game jam, it's that most people won't read the page before playing, so putting your instructions there is next to useless!

Submitted

Very cool game! made it 4th in the leaderboard :)

The online leaderboard suprised me, that is a really cool feature and it makes the game a lot more fun to replay and try to get on there. The sound effects were also good and it overall felt really comfortable, awesome job.

Best platformer I've played in this jam. Loved how it feels and the animations and dust clouds are super smooth. The leaderboard is a really cool touch too. I guess my only thing to point out would be the springs don't have an animation? It's a little jarring considering everything else looks so clean and polished. Also I keep wanting to hit W/Up to jump, and jump through the bottoms of platforms. Is the source code available?

Developer(+1)

Sorry but the code contains private codes for the database and I can't share it. I'll think about it after the jam ends for sure

Super polished!  Simplicity done right, great job!

On the surface it looks like a pretty standard platformer, but the little details you added really elevate the polish of the game, like the sounds for the double jump and the dust cloud. I also like the tutorial for dealing with enemies--I  thought it was a really clever way to integrate it into the game.

After playing a few times, it also seems like you built a few "zones" and then strung them together procedurally to create random variations. That's a really cool idea! It increases your game replay value for sure.

(Edit: the online leaderboard is cool. I don't know how you have it implemented, but you might consider reviewing some of the entries)

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for this opinion. I am glad that you have noticed all of these details.

There are 3 zones. Each of them contain 4 rooms. 0-3 easy rooms, 4-6 medium rooms, 7+ hard rooms

I do have a control over the leaderboard and have seen those offensive names but I guess it is how it is. I wouldn't like to offend anyone by deleting his score.

That's fair, I don't necessarily want to police things either. I just wish people would keep cool XD

I think the touches I liked best were the little dust clouds at the guy's feet, the animation of the enemies, and the really nice, satisfying effect when you jumped on their heads. Great job!

Pretty cool game. After quite a number of attempts I managed to do 7. I named myself Adolf since I didn't think it would matter XD. I noticed that there is grace jumping (which is great), but the jump height could be half a square higher to make it a bit more unforgiving. The part with the bouncepads in the pits with the spikes at the tops was very difficult. I guess you generate the world by stitching together premade areas (Spelunky style).

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback. Yes - I have 12 premade rooms which fit together in any order.

Very nice game feel. I kept dying at that one section two bouncepads and spikes in between.

This was such an awesome game! So polished,it felt great! Some little things i loved, is the x2 on space that tells you have double jump, i never thought i should convey it like this in the controller menu.. awesome! and also the text upon death on enemies and the way it shrinks  is just awesome! good job!

Submitted

I agree, it was immediately clear what that meant, but I would not have thought of it either!

Great game! Gameplay is addictive (what is good). The animation and sound and little things like words or effects with enemies are polished and sexy! Keep doing it. I'm waiting for another game!!

Woah, really polished game. Those texts when killing enemies are great and the leaderboard encourages you to keep trying! I would love to see more variety on the level, but it is very enyojable.

Very solid platformer. I liked how everything was explained in-game at the start. My favourite things were the flavour text and the online leaderboard. I spent a while trying to beat people's highscores :) Very polished overall! A lot of attention to detail.

Submitted(+1)

Great polish! Movement felt responsive and sound effects were satsifying. Also pretty cool that the levels change each run, but then that makes the leaderboard a bit moot since you may not be competing against others with the same exact level as the others. Still, great job!

Submitted

Good consideration on the leaderboard. Although I will say that since the levels are a string of pre-made bits, after they start to repeat, it's really a competition of who is best at completing all the "rooms", just multiple times. If that makes sense.

Addictive game!, Really good controls and gameplay. The spikes make the game really difficult, the hitboxes feel big. I made it to 20. Great game!

Developer(+2)

That's a lot of points!
