This was pretty damn fun to play, the screen shake makes everything feel really good

Pretty awesome! Love the feel of this game.  I really really like the sound and music you implemented. Good job!

Controls were a bit hard, but not entirely sure how I would handle controls for this game so I can鈥檛 really hold that against you. The game itself was fun to play, the graphics were good, it was a super juicy experience. Great job!

Great game feel! It was very juicy and fun to play everything really worked well together. My only complaint would be the odd controls but other than that, Fantastic job!

It would mean a lot if you could check out my game for the Jam and leave feedback if you get the chance. Thanks!

Developer

Thanks for playing!  I already rated your game man, great job!

Really enjoyed this one! Controls were a little hard to get used to and died a bunch just because i thought W was up and not towards the black hole... I'm not sure how i'd go about fixing the controls tho so you have to figure that out :P I also found a bug, not sure how to reproduce it, but i died and after that i only encountered bigger ships, not the small ones. Either way, 2103 was my highscore and enjoyed every second of it. Thank you for this!

Found the same bug. I ran into the black hole (I might have pressed fired after death as well), I think that's the cause

The chrome inspector gave this as an error report
"Uncaught (in promise) DOMException: screen.orientation.lock() is not available on this device."

It is a really fun game, I enjoyed it a lot! Good Job!

One of the best game I have seen on this game jam. The only two things I can complain about is that it is a little hard to me and that the not-spawning-enemies bug is very annoying, but you already know about it.

This was one of the most innovative ideas for a galaga / geometry wars type game I've seen in a long time! Really nice effects implemented on all the blaster shots too. I really love the idea and I want to see it work, but I just had a heck of a time getting over the control scheme. I think controller support for joystick use might work wonders here. Maybe also placing an outer boundary instead of having that be a kill zone too. Most of my deaths were trying to come out of my gravity equal rotation and panic throwing myself off the edge of the world.
Awesome submission to the jam, cheers!

This was a stunning game, very smooth, great art, great music, great sound effects, everything. It took me a while to get used to the controls and snappy movement, but after about 5 minutes of playing I got the hang of it and had a blast. A little mini tutorial or text on the main menu would have been nice.

Developer

Hey Masonzk!

Thanks for playing!  I am working on getting a "How to Play" and "Practice Mode" in the game right now as well as a difficulty setting with a lives system and some in game Music/SFX settings adjustments options.  Thanks for the feedback!

Perfect visuals and SFX, very hard game for a noob like me but after some muscle memory process I was able to play, well done and nice theme implementation!

It's a hard game to wrap your head around at first, because of the way you need to move, but once I got the hang of it, it was really engaging. Wouldn't seem out of place on mobile (but in a good way, y'know), in case you wanted to take it further.

Developer

Thanks Man!

I think I am gunna go further with it.  Im working on a difficulty setting and lives system right now. and then I want to make a leaderboards and just polish up the sprites and audio.  Should only take another two weeks.

As the for the movement awkwardness.  I think part of it has to do with the fact that it is just atypical movement, and part of it has to do with moving backwards when you move sideways.  I am thinking about trying to fix that, but now I'm so used to it I like that movement style. idk haha.

Great game!

This is awesome and lots of fun! My only complaint that the game stays relatively easy and doesn't have a real difficulty curve (at least to me.) It is still really fun though! Please play our game if you have the time!

Developer

Thanks LettuceMan!

I already played your game and left feedback.  Nice Job!

And you might have been experiencing a known bug where less enemies spawn after each death (can't fix because of jam).  I have it set so enemies spawn faster and faster until there is a new enemy spawned every second!

Great concept for an arcade shooter! I found the controls quite awkward, but still had a fun time playing. The graphics really evoke classic games like Galaga, so I think you achieved your aim on that front, nice job!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Yeah the controls are awkward at first, but I think that is just because this style of movement has never really been done before in games.  I can't really think of a better way to do it and once you get used to it its pretty great!.  And thanks for the compliment, I love revamped retro games.

Really nice use of the theme, creative concept, and amazing art, I didn't get used to the controls of the game (but that's just me being an horrible player) also the difficulty was too hard for me as I said.

Really liked the collectables/upgrades, but I would change so it would only start (the upgrade) when you shoot, since sometimes you get it but there aren't any enemies to use it on.

But overall I really enjoyed your game.

Really creative use of the theme! It was fun to play and had a nice difficulty curve which I always like. However, after 5 or so deaths, the levels stopped spawning the little enemies and only spawned the bosses. Not sure why happened again when I reloaded. But overall, great game!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Yeah that is a known issue I can't fix because of the jam :(.  I put it in the description, but I know no one ever reads those haha.  I'll be uploading a bug free version after the jam with a lives system and sound and difficulty settings.

Cool arcade-style shooter! The controls were a bit hard at first, but once I got used to them I had a lot of fun. The graphics are really nice. Overall this was a very well-rounded game. One minor problem I had was that at some points there were long delays between enemies spawning.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Yeah the spawning thing is a known issue I can't fix because of the jam :(.  I put it in the description, but I know no one ever reads those haha.  I'll be uploading a bug free version after the jam with a lives system and sound and difficulty settings.

Pretty fun game, but I didn't really get how you used the theme

Developer

Thanks man.  There and back going around and round a black hole.  powerups were collectables.  I also planned on having achievements with unlockables, but didn't end up getting that far.

Got it! Could you try my game?

Submitted(+1)

What an amazing arcade space shooter game!. This was really fun to play, and the visual effects were pretty simple but look soo good on the game. Sometimes when I died and played new game, enemies wouldn't spawn or take like 1 min for the first one to spawn so I had to refresh browser each game, but ignoring that fact, the game was pretty impressive. Congrats on your entry!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Yeah that is a known issue I can't fix because of the jam :( I'll be uploading a bug free version after the jam with a lives system and sound and difficulty settings.  If you upload the HTML version of your game else where and link me to it, I'd be more than happy to play.  Your game looks awesome from the screenshots!

Ok, I'll make a new project - let you know and will remove project after.

The graphics are beautiful and I love how punchy the effects feel. Controls took some time getting used to but once I did it was fun outmaneuvering the enemies! I do think it's a little too difficult though, so one thing I'd add is starting with three lives instead of one. I'd also add an indicator that shows enemies from outside the screen, like an arrow pointing at them, because I often found myself ramming into enemies that I couldn't see.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the feedback!

I am already at work on a lives system! and I like the indicator idea, I'll see how hard that is to implement.  I also worry because the screen is already pretty busy as it is, but I think I could drop the opacity down and they wouldnt be too gawky.  I'll check out your game!

Edit: can't check out your game cause I'm on a Mac :(.
