This game looks pretty much finished already! Nice job on creating such a polished game in 48 hrs!

The concept is fun and unique!

Great Job!

I have no idea how you had this much gameplay in 48h worth of work but it was awesome! There was even a tutorial!!! A fun concept, I'd love to see more and I am going to have to keep playing until I win

Though there were many card game entries for this jam, yours was very interesting! Btw, I love the card icons!

Wasn't expecting to see a card game with crafting in it for this jam! Nicely done :)

This game is packed with contents. Fun and unique card game. A lot of strategies involved but it all came down with RNG :(. My main strategy was pretty much pray for iron or silver to craft the shackles which were OP. The aesthetic and music fitted well together. The UI/UX were very responsive and polished. The wolf animation seem a bit long at the time, which slow the game down a bit. Maybe a skip would be nice.

Overall, this is solid game. Great job!

There's so much content in this game for a 48 hour jam! Maybe too much? This is a really cool take on the theme and I really love the gameplay.

It took me a while to get into the game. The tutorial is really helpful but is ultimately a big wall of text. I feel like even after playing for 15 minutes there's probably quite a few things I'm missing in the game.
The visuals in the game really grabbed me though and I love that the game goes into third person as the wolf attacks.

Overall, this is a really interesting submission that I think deserves a lot more attention.

This is a really neat game! It needs some polish but I could definitely see myself playing a post-jam version of this!

This was more fun than I expected! Very clever mechanics that made for some interesting tradeoff decisions! I would definitely play this as a tabletop card game

Really cool and fun game! Needs more juice I think. I also have no idea what injuries do even though I finished game.

Developer

Thanks for playing! If you're curious, drawing an injury is basically just a lost turn. Every time you encounter a dangerous animal, a new injury is added to the wilderness deck permanently, so foraging gets less effective. By playing an oinment card, you can remove all the injuries to restore the efficiency of the wilderness deck.

The concept is really cool but it needs some rythm i think, and a bit more juice to make it really interesting. The werewolf turns animations were not necessary I believe, and could have been replaced with effects imho. Good job overall!

I love your concept. It's very unique game with original idea. But could polish more.Really enjoyed playing.

I LOVE this entry, you really deserve more eyes on this! The concept is unique and plays very well. The art on the cards is superb (even if it is pre-made), and the low poly models aren't half bad either. I'm also impressed with how clean the UI/UX feels, it was very easy for me to do all the things I wanted to do. Not to mention I was more than willing to put in more than a half hour playing it, it's fun!

I will say that the 'win-ability' of the game really hinges on getting the right stuff from the wilderness. Iron and Silver ore are invaluable for keeping the werewolf manageable, and if they don't show up you can be kinda screwed. If the game were expanded on I would definitely like to see some tweeks to maybe nerf the usefulness of the shackles, but allow the player to go mining, foraging, or hunting in the wilderness with 3 separate decks to get the respective resources. This'd lower the randomness and allow for more strategies than "hope to find ore - make shackles". Mild complaints aside, great game!

Developer

Thanks so much for the positive feedback, and for taking the time to play all the way though! I agree that the RNG for getting ore is kind of a weak point; maybe some kind of "make it more likely to get an ore/plant/animal" card would be helpful.

Impressive job you managed to pull off in just 48 hours! I actually found it easier to learn the game by playing it, than by following the tutorial. The UI could use some work, but it's no big deal for a jam game. The game was easy for me. Finished it on my first try. Of course, balancing the game is something you can do afterwards.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I'm impressed you managed to figure it out without the tutorial, I kind of thought the tutorial would be necessary given non-obvious nature of the mechanics.

This game was completely unplayable on my computer because it only runs in full screen and doesn't support ultrawide resolutions. Something to consider for the future. =(

Hi, thanks for your interest! Sorry you've had trouble playing. If you press alt+enter while in-game, it will switch from fullscreen to windowed, although I don't know for sure if that will fix your issue. Might be worth trying though!

(1 edit)

I did try that but it kept the same resolution and wouldn't let me resize it unfortunately. I will try changing my system resolution and give it another shot.

I changed my system resolution to 2560x1440 and it worked great. Very original idea! Kind of a deckbuilder with a crafting system, cool stuff! Would have really benefited from some audio though.

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much for making the effort to play! We do have audio, including music and a few sound effects, but none of it is essential to play the game.

I really like this game! I haven't come across any other card games in the jam, so this is very novel in that respect. The out of control nature of the wolf makes it fit very much in line with the theme. The wolf attacks at night add a lot to the game and add an element of strategy that is very nice. It creates a solid risk vs reward vs progress choice that is hard to nail but you seem to have done it near perfectly.

If you wanted to continue improving on the game, here's some suggestions. Keep the three decks of cards and house as a GUI element at the bottom of the screen and just have the camera change position when you pull a card instead of having to zoom into an area first. This would help the game flow better instead of constantly starting and stopping as you move to a new location for cards.  Additionally, some sort of way to skip the wolf running to destroy a card bit at night would be a nice feature. It is fun the first or second time but starts to feel repetitive after that. Lastly, some sort of item trading system is nice. Maybe it takes a turn to walk to town to go and trade items, but if you spend to long in town and turn into a wolf, villager attack cards start to get mixed into the wolf deck and add more danger.

Overall this is a solid entry, it's kinda sad it doesn't have more support. Maybe try a web-build next year for ease of access?

Best of luck! If you have time, check out my game: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2020/rate/694820

Developer

Thanks for playing and giving feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed the game! I'll play yours later today. I agree that a web build might have been beneficial, I've just had really bad performance problems with Unity WebGL in the past so I kind of stopped bothering with it. Having a village was actually something we talked about as one of the locations, but we figured we wouldn't have time to include that during the jam.

Having features left on the cutting room floor isn't a bad thing, especially for a jam. With a Jam you can try things to see if they have appeal to a group then continue to build off of it once you find what people do and do not like. I had an entire page of ideas I had to cut from my game to get it in on time. I'm not experienced enough with unity to troubleshoot your WebGL problems, maybe posting for advice on their forums or asking other people who used webGL could help you with that. Good luck!

love the illustrations, I think it would be a good card game, I liked the art, I found some bugs, but in general it is very nice game

This was a neat idea, and I was solidly engaged with the card-based crafting loop, and the werewolf was a nice touch for the out of control theme. It was a nice touch how the werewolf doesn't act automatically, you have to "pull" the card yourself, and watch how your action hurts your progress. Also I love the goofy werewolf model.

I couldn't get the Windows build to run on my computer, but if you decide to make a linux build, let me know, because I'm interested to see how other devs implemented the same lose-control-as-a-werewolf idea that I used!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your interest! I'm pretty sure I can't submit a new build during voting, even if it's just a port to another platform, but if you're still interested after the voting period ends I can try doing a linux build!

Really enjoyed playing this one. I played one game and crafted four ritual items, but one got destroyed. I kinda lost hope after that, but still kept going. Also it looked like I could place a fence around the farm from the zoomed-out view, but it was placed around the house.

Developer

Thanks for playing and giving feedback! I agree that the issue with placing fences while zoomed out could be a bit clearer. It would have been nice to implement with more time.

Love the style, nice gameplay too!
