Figuring out how to play this game was satisfying. The dragon got the better of me more times than I'd like to admit but that didn't stop me! Nice entry, cool idea.

If you have time please play and rate my game:

Enjoyed playing but quite a few bugs. Couldn't work out how to finish the level - tried jumping and planting a bomb on the dragon and tried running up to the gate at the back.

Definitely has potential if the mechanics are tidied up, especially a subtle camera move to help see the area of the castle you are in more clearly.

Cool little concept! Love the one-screen flavour and the idea of having to slowly climb up through the castle's rooms.

In terms of critique, it could have used a bit more visual highlighting (torches, glowing ladders etc.) of areas since I found myself often lost looking for obscured ladders / platforms in the dark. Was also a bit confused to discover that jumping only unlocked when getting into one specific room. The dragon fire is brutual as well hahaha - maybe more of a 'damage-over-time and you can put yourself out if you get out in time' model would be a bit more forgiving (unless you were going for the hardcore permadeath kinda vibe)!

Altogether a solid submission - great work!

Finished (with all secrets found)!

This was pretty cool!

At first, I thought it was a bit small. But then I got used to size of elements and I've got a lot of fun discovering new objects and find all secrets of the game. Dragon's fire is brutal, and it gives a good oppression feeling.

There's some tweaks to do about the platforming physics and sometimes the timing with dragon is a bit short. Despite all this, it's a good entry and there's a lot content.

Good job! :)

Don't think the one screen was a great idea made the game a bit hard to read. The game was fun, the jump was a bit hard to do on controller. I really like everything about the Dragon.

That was pretty good, enjoyed that however it didn't run very well on my PC not sure why but it made it more difficult to play.

The assets where well done, I'd give you points for those but the jam is meant to focus on design and not take artwork into consideration too much so I'll focus on that.

It is a very well made game and I thoroughly enjoyed, very well done.

P.S. The dragon was very intimidating, barely wanted to move :D

Thank you so much for playing, sorry to hear the game didn't run well for you. We are continuing to work and polish it and will release an updated version after voting ends, I hope that version runs better for you!

Indeed you are very right not to judge us for art as we did not have an artist but used asset packs instead!

You can check most of them out here: https://syntystore.com (it saved us a LOT of time to just have models to drop into the game as we pleased!)

AH! That makes way more sense because when I saw those assets all I thought was "WOW they must have spent the entire week modelling, rigging and animating those assets" regardless the gameplay was still solid and I'm glad I played it.

Cool game for such a short jam! Sadly encountered a few glitches but I'm sure you're aware of them already (player stuck in fall animation, player running behind walls or not visible at all)

Oh what just a few more hours would have done to remove those bugs haha! We are working to improve the game still and will release a new and improved version after the jam voting is done, feel free to check back later... and to let me know what new bugs I missed :P

Really cool looking game, it didn't run so well on my PC but I got an idea of what the game was like.
It's amazing how you're able to make this much in 48 hours, you guys must've stayed up the WHOLE 48 hours to get this done! It looks amazing, and it plays smoothly (From what i can see on the video). Great job!

If you haven't yet, I would really appreciate it if you check out our game too!

Really cool to have an metroidvania on a single screen

The controls were pretty spot on and precise, I also liked the fact that this has some elements of adventure games like "Another World" to it where you can die if you make a single mistake this can work pretty well here except for one thing that i feel kind of contradict this design, the dragon seems to be going about at random and while theres quite some time to see where he's gonna attack, it was a bit tedious to plan what powerup to collect next and then dying and not being able to learn the pattern.

Despite all this i had fun playing the game and it surely is solid in most aspects, I just encountered a bug in case nobody else had it : on on playthrough i collected the torch then went for the jump powerup, and after having the pause menu up the character was stuck in his falling animation and i couldn't exit the room, it only happened once though so i'm not sure exactly what could trigger this :s

Anyway still a really good game well done guys :)

Thanks so much! We're actually going to release an update post-voting! Thanks for catching that bug! <3  We will investigate!

Love the idea of a "Micro metroidvania", it makes backtracking a little easier :)

I'm sure this one is going to be on the top 100. Congrats.

Please consider rating mine:

The game was great and fun. Good Idea and nice design. Liked the twist!

I couldn't use any controls except Pause (Enter). My Xbox pad also worked for Pause, but with the A button. What could possibly be wrong? Thanks in advance

Developer

I have no idea! Sorry to hear that it bugged out for you. The keyboard or traditional Xbox 360 controller should work fine. Very odd that your keyboard did not work. I will investigate this for sure! Thank you for the feedback.

Kinda neat little tricky puzzler. Look pretty polish  although I think a more simpilify graphic / 3d model would be better since I cant see what object in each room.

Amazing that this was done in such a quick amount of time. Other games with way more development time wish they were this far along!

It was great fun.

Your game blew me way! As polished as you can get in 48hours. I enjoyed picking the different mechanics, and advancing through the castle bit by bit. The music sets the medieval mood amazingly well and the art is charming too.

A Jam Masterpiece for sure, and I'm excited to see if you will expand on this!

The idea is very original but the execution needs, in my opinion a lot of polishing. The idea itself is amazing and it was really fun to play! But many bugs and gitches prevented me from having the full experience of the game! Let me give you some examples : after getting the jump power, the character (the first time playing) got stuck behind a platform, jumping when going up ladder (to go faster) makes your character model dissapear ? :) Maybe you could also add some more sound effects to give the plaer queues on what he is doing (jumping, landing, etc.) Apart from these few polishing bugs and problems, I can see great potential with this game. The music fits your theme perfectly and the models... WOW! 48 hours to make those ? GG. Great game overall! Good job!

Developer

Yeah, there's a bug if you die a few times that the player's Z position is totally thrown out of wack!
We actually didn't create ANY assets! The team was me on Design, a buddy on Programming, and we got about 12hrs of additional coding support by from friends who had a couple spare hours on Saturday and Sunday! So we didn't have any artists.

You can find most of our assets at https://syntystore.com

The execution needs TONS of polish! We overscoped so much that we barely got the game out the door in one piece! :P
The lights are too dark, the dragon too unpredictable, the fire is hard to read, the player controls are floaty and strange, and the animations are super wonky!

We've spent most of the past week's evenings working on it after work though!
We'll post an update shortly after the competition ends! :D
