Incredibly atmospheric, I really enjoyed the story. I didn't so much mind the typewriter effect as the long delay at the end of it. Sometimes it'd be as long as a few seconds. I understand sometimes it might have been for effect but some indication that I'm still supposed to be waiting and something's not wrong would have perhaps helped at the beginning. The audio was incredibly moody as well, great job overall!

The story got under my skin!
You painted the world with words  and showed a intresting story!
A few more sounds could hold the tension, but it was defintely the best text based adventure I saw, in this jam!
Well done! :D

Great immersive story, the music also helped to get into the mood, really enjoyed playing. Good work!

Very well writen! You have a gift!

I didn't have music at first, but by changing of browser tab two times, the music appeared!

I hope you will do a post-jam version with alternative endings and visuals to let us get more in the story! ;)

Without a doubt the best text based adventure I've played in the Jam! I really loved the text and font design so I gave this a very high graphics rating despite being a text based game. (Sometimes simple and clean is better than games that do more but graphics have messy textures).

Also loved the "Goosebumps" vibe from those old books where you pick your path, your use of images was good as well. My only complaint was I wanted more hahah!

Would love to know what you think of my Moon Blob game! https://avatar-nick.itch.io/moon-blob Great stuff again congrats!

Hi I really like the story but somehow I can't hear music in the browser version(I can hear the ring at the beginning and I have say it shocked me a lot lol, maybe turn it down a little?)

Another problem I have on the browser is the text is longer than my screen so I have to scale the front to see the full texts. maybe have a scroller in this case?

And the story is kind of short.. and ends all of a sudden. Looking forward to have a more complicated story with alternative ending!

Overall a good game!

This is by far the game that I spent most of my time playing in this Jam. Really enjoyed it.

It is a little bit short in my opinion and I can feel the first part of the game is definitely a lot more detailed compared than the second.

To me personally, the ending happened too suddenly and I was not ready for the storytelling, I was not mentally prepared for the scene. Thus I thought there was more after the discovery.

Additionally, the change from 1st person perspective to 2nd person was a little confusing for me.

But overall, this game has the vibe and you have nailed it. I am digging it.

The writing is top-notch ! Playing this game at 3AM is definitively a chilling experience haha.

Good job on making this game, I appreciated it a lot :)

really well done.  i had never played a text adventure with audio before, but it kept me sucked in.  i spent much longer on this game than most games in this jam :)

Super glad that you liked it!

Ooh those is going to be so fun to play after work. You’ve got me hooked.

How did you like using twine?

If I could make a couple suggestions. The writing is really good but would benefit from proofing and editing. Since the written story is your main asset you want it to be top-notch. I’ve always found the old school “printing text a character at a time” effect a little tiresome. I’m not the fastest reader I know but I often find myself waiting for the computer to finish printing. I would suggest either speed it up or turn it off. I don’t think it adds much to the vibe.

Can’t wait to play it through.

Thank you very much for the suggestions!

1. "How did you like using Twine"?
I liked it just fine. Was pretty easy and quick to use, and I could easily focus on writing the story and the choices, rather than figuring out the tool.

2. "The writing is really good but would benefit from proofing and editing. Since the written story is your main asset you want it to be top-notch"
Agreed! Of course! There is always room for improvement!
Though, I do not know if you've encountered any copy-writing or copy-editing issues as of yet, but if you could point them out, I'm more than happy to look over them.

3. "I’ve always found the old school “printing text a character at a time” effect a little tiresome. I’m not the fastest reader I know but I often find myself waiting for the computer to finish printing."
This was tricky, since most people who tested out the game absolutely loved the effect, going so far to say that it added to the experience. But others were not so keen on it. So, in the end, I decided to have the effect in most places, while at other points, just display the entire wall of text at once.

4. "I would suggest either speed it up or turn it off. I don’t think it adds much to the vibe."
That's a wonderful idea! Maybe next time, I can provide the player an option to enable/disable the effect.
Just to note: I followed the official Twine Harlowe tutorial for adding the 'Typewriter effect'. There is a line in the accompanying JavaScript code snippet, where you can adjust the speed from the default 20ms to something else. I tried my best to change it, but for someone reason, it was not being updated. So, I left it at that, since I did not want to spend more time on the code and focus more on the story ( I only had a few days, other than my day job :P ).

5. "Can’t wait to play it through."
Can't wait to get your feedback! I hope you like it!

Enjoy!

The story is very interesting, I couldn't finish it cuz I did not have enough time for today but I'll finish it later, because it interested me. The audio made this game more  enjoyable and emotional, sometimes I got goosebumps by reading the story and hearing amazing sound effects. Text is also well-written which makes game more addictive.

I am amazed by this game, amazing work!

Looking forward to your full play-through! :)

Nice story, I was intrigued. Liked the inclusion of graphics and audio was very good. Played it through once, are there alternate endings?

Developer (1 edit)

Unfortunately, no, now right now, but maybe, after the jam? Who knows?

Interesting text based game, never played such a game before.

Optional pathways could have come a bit earlier in the game.

All the best for the future

"Optional pathways could have come a bit earlier in the game."
Interesting idea! I'll keep that in mind for next time.
And thanks, all the best for you, as well!

Very atmospheric writing and the game contains lots of mystery. I first thought the graphic was not there (considering there's only text at the beginning) but I was shook by the ending image (the red thing, without spoiler).

Little suggestion, the narrative shifted from first-person to second-person, which confused me a bit, or maybe I am wrong.

The shift was intentional :)
