Talk about making chess fun!

Literally the only issue I have is that some pieces hit you even tough you're barely on the field. Some leniency would be appreciated.

I'll admit when I read the title I thought "That sounds stupid." I was proven very VERY wrong. It is silly but I loved it. Shared it with my gaming buddies and felt so accomplished when i reached the final level. It's great.

This felt like a very complete game and it was super enjoyable to play. I loved the combination of both quick action and strategic thinking. The title made me think it would be a super goofy game but it ended it up being a mental exercise :D

What a weird game. I kinda liked it. It looks pretty much like a finished game.

My only complaint would be the hitboxes on pieces, and how knights can kill you by phasing through you.

P.S. The game got stuck at this: https://imgur.com/a/h3AaRxn, can't shoot, can't move, nothing. I reloaded the page, it worked, but then same thing happened on the next level :(

Amazing game! I was very engaged and tried hard to finish it, but I got stuck at some 20+ levels in where it's a circular maze and it has knights everywhere, so wherever I move I get very easily attacked. The issue is the collider is so big and the controls a bit wonky that I can't evade them :(
But this game is defo one of my favs this jam!

Really cool and interesting spin on the whole chess-game thing. The tank ends up getting caught on the walls a little too often, and some of the levels just felt spammy. I think the hurtbox on the tank sould be a tiny bit smaller, I kept getting hit when just a pixel was touching the captured tile.

Overall still a good time! Nice job

There is a lot of "chess but" games in this jam, but this is by far the best I have played! (mostly because I don't know how to play chess and I like tanks)

One of my favourite games of the jam. An amazing, well-paced mix of insane, shooty levels and tactical ones, interspersed. I loved the "take the shot" kind of gameplay where nothing is really random, and you really feel like a sniper when you get that "green light" for the king.

And I don't say this lightly: the BEST enemies of the jam, if not some of the best enemies in any small game I've ever played. They felt like they could predict my movements, and faking them out or being caught off-guard by them felt awesome. It felt as amazing to trip a queen up as it was to snipe the king. And perhaps emergently, the knights were unpredictable and very hard to counter. Also, I don't think there was anything wrong with the tank controls, that's how a tank should be: a bit slow, a bit clumsy, and very different from the brainy chess enemies. Maybe the tank's hitbox should have been shrunk a bit, because enemies could fly by me and kill me.

The only thing that could make this better is some self-imposed challenges or achievements about using fewer shots than you have.

I love this.

My first full 5/5 this jam. I hope you get featured and I want to see a devlog!

Didn't expect this game, it surprised me in a good way! Nice level design too. I think the collider of the tank should be shrinked a bit, sometimes 1 pixel stays in other cell and you die because of that. Also, I when I reached the high noon level the game didn't respond and couldn't continue playing. Apart from that, great game.

Incredible game! Great work all around. The concept was great, the titles were hilarious, and the gameplay was awesome! I loved the design on all the puzzles, it felt super satisfying to final get the hit on the king. And holy crap, you made so many levels! That's an insane amount of content you put in this game!
There were some stages that I could cheese by spamming fire towards the king as soon as the stage started, but even that felt pretty dang good - I was living my best tank fantasy, haha!

Seriously, amazing work. 5 stars all around.

Welcome to the chess club buddy :D

Unexpected concept! Good work!

Cool concept, with the only thing holding it back being the controls of the tank.  Still, super impressed you made so many levels during a jam and a ton of things about this game are really well executed!  Great job!

I really like the idea behind this game and you managed to port a lot of mechanics from Chess into this game in interesting ways, but I think the tank controls could use some more work.  The movement feels a little choppy and getting stuck on walls doesn't help.  And the use of A and D to determine rotation rather than translation is very hard to get used to, but I understand that this control scheme may make more sense for a tank.  Maybe it could be possible to rotate the tank by holding right click and dragging, and then space and shift could be forward and reverse.  I don't know if that would be more natural, but at least it would give you some more precision over your movement direction.

Cool idea. I like the approach to combine a puzzle with action game. I had fun playing it. Good work! :)

Very creative idea and fun game! I really like how you named the levels. Great job!

fun game man!

I think it got difficult quick because of the pawns (maybe i did something wrong though)

Regardless loved the mix between chess and shooter^^

This is a fun game. riding around in a tank is fun and all the weird enemies are easy to understand because of the chess mechanic. It did crash a few times. luckily your progress is save so it wasn't a big deal.

Great game, cool concept and fun gameplay!

My favorite levels were the custom-designed levels with fewer pieces. In all the "__ chess but you play as a tank" levels, there were too many enemies on screen for the game to feel strategic and it just felt like I was spamming in hopes of hitting the king. The first one was cool because that's the name of the game, but they overstayed their welcome.

Also, I wish the enemies all moved at once because it is really hard to predict when I need to move when they are staggered.

I think the tank control would be more satisfying if it slid against walls when it hit them diagonally rather than getting stuck on them, especially since there are so many one-tile corridors.

Overall, a very nicely polished game with a fun gameplay concept. Keep up development on this and I can see myself wasting a lot of time into it!

The name of the game is really great. Good idea :) The gameplay itself was fun. I really like the that you have limited ammo so you can't just shot everything down from a distance. Good that there is some form of strategy involved. I also like how it starts really easy and difficulty is building up slowly. One thing that could be improved is the audio of the game. I felt that the sound effects could be more juicy and the music got repetetive really quick. Nonetheless great entry, really good concept and a great name. Fun is to be had here for sure :)
