Great idea to take one of most famous games and twist it up for the format!
Really nice take on the theme. The colours added an extra dimension to work with. It felt pretty frantic the whole time trying to keep an eye on everyone.
This game was fun but really intense! I really like the idea of flipping tetris on its head.
If you have the time, please check out the game I worked on for the jam! https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2020/rate/698210
Just a tip - it doesn't show you submitted a game under your comment, which means you aren't listed as a contributor. You can do that here https://itch.io/t/61688/feature-request-itchio-users-as-collaborators#:~:text=You%20can%20add%20someone%20as,from%20their%20profile%20theme%20editor.
Interesting idea, though I wish there were a mode with only one board, so I could ease myself into the gameplay a bit easier
Now this is greatly out of control! Love the whole 'game doing what the player would usually do, and the player doing what the game would do' approach.
It's really hard to get started and familiarized with how things work, I felt more lost than out of control at the start. With a worked-out progression this would be even more enjoyable. Congrats on the game!
Man is the frantic experience frantic. Really makes you feel out of control as everyone gets junk lines well your still dragging over blocks. After a bit I had to switch to the much more relaxed version. This is really interesting as a concept. I think it would be fun as a coop game with friends filling in for the the block places.
It's a good idea, and well-executed - unfortunately, the game is so hectic, even in "puzzle" mode, you don't really have enough time to look at each player's boards and figure out which piece they could best use.
Great idea and execution. The swooping swirling backdrop was a bit much for me, actually had to stop playing from a bout of motion sickness which is a first for me! Enjoyed the gameplay though and maybe next time I won't be so mad at Tetris RNG for a wrong piece now that I know what they have to deal with ;)
This is a really cool idea! I feel like the gameplay gets a little repetitive after a while, so maybe some kind of cool powerups or random events could be added to keep things spicy.
I think the two greens are a little too close to each other in hue/value. It wasn't easy to tell at-a-glance which green a puzzle piece was. I suggest making one darker/brighter or changing the color so they are immediately distinguishable from each other.
I absolutely agree with the colors. I built out the 7 colors for frenzy first, then cut it down for puzzle mode. So frenzy looks great, but then puzzle's colors doesn't look as good.
The gameplay is a sort of the same, but there is an escalation where it gets more intense as the towers naturally build up higher. But I don't think powerups or events are a good solution for this, unless you can come up with a pretty compelling reason they would be.
Flipping Tetris into this was a great idea. it's incredibly fun (yet extremely difficult) and I enjoyed every moment. I was utterly lost for the games rules for a good while at the start however, but eventually I got some kind of hang for it. Overall, very fun!
Oh, and the frenzy mode is just the incarnation of this Jams theme, absolutely out of control.
Nice work on flipping Tetris, and I love the fact that coloured pieces cannot be sent to the player with the same colour. It adds to the chaotic environment in the game.
Just a few nit-picks. Perhaps recolour all sent pieces to white so that the playfield is better seen? And the dropping speed can be faster perhaps? It feels frustrating having to wait for the piece to drop. Lastly, as the T piece actually changes parity of the playfield, maybe intentionally code that T pieces will not be barred from a certain player for, say, 3-4 sets of pieces? I don't know whether it is coded already, but it helps to be player-friendly.
Anyways, super fun game. Good luck!
A great take on the theme! Took me a while to figure out the colour matching requirement. When in puzzle mode I kind of felt like I was still under a lot of time pressure too. Just nit-picking, great job overall!
Yeah, I'm getting lots of feedback about the color matching not being telegraphed very well. Something for me to look into later.
There is still time pressure in puzzle. I was thinking about making a version with no time limit at all, but then I figured 2 gamemodes was already too much, and it wasn't core to the experience.
