Similar concept to ours! I really like your take on it, that bit of narrative at the start is cool.
Really cool game - You can tell a lot of work has gone into this! I’ve heard how ambitious RTS games are to build - never tried myself but inspired by this game. Would definitely benefit from a bit of post jam polish 👍
:D Thanks. I'm actually nearly finished with the post-jam version with all the fixes in place.
This was a good game. The mechanic has a lot of further potential and puts a nice strategic layer on top of the combat. There are a few things I would modify to make the experience that much better:
Add adequate pathfinding to the goblins so they dont get stuck
Lower the health of the humans so they dont kill you even with 10+ goblins
Fix up the collisions
Overall, with these additions, this would make for a pretty solid release!
Great game! The music was really cool. However, I had problems with fullscreen, some things were offscreen for me. I tried different browsers but it still didn't work :(
Despite that, it was really good. The goblins appearing from the ground at the beginning creeped me out haha.
Was my first time getting webgl to work correctly. Canvas scaler messed up on some screen resolutions sadly. :D Will try get it fixed for the next build!
in the beginning i had no idea but after a little bit of scouting i found a poor villager you know what happened next haha
Fun game! It took my a while to figure out what I needed to do, but once I got it, I had a fun time. Having a tutorial built in might help out quite a lot!
Also, I experienced a bug when I tried to spawn a new goblin, and he was stuck in some trees. Not the biggest deal, but wanted to let you know about it!
Great work on this one!
I actually had a tutorial complete and ready to go but in webgl the game crashed everytime on scene change so I had to remove it 2hrs before deadline D:
The collider bugs are being fixed for post jam build :)
Hey! great game! The controls were weird for mes, dragging felt weird. Nonetheless, really interesting stuff! how much was created in such a short span of time!
It felt very complete with the intro, audio, varied map, and visuals (the burning houses were so satisfying!). The small RTS and mechanics I enjoy, and I could see interesting maps taking advantage of different terrain and resource placement for future.
My main issue was that it was hard to gauge how I was doing and my progress in the game. Maybe some mini health bars on the NPCs and some more direction on where to go/status. Also, I did have issues with goblins getting stuck in the water but seems you're aware.
Overall it's so enjoyable to run around with a cadre of goblins and cause havoc, well done!
Thanks for playing Hank :D There are alot of collider bugs and issues that I wasnt able to resolve during the jam but deffo going to update it to address most of these issues soon :)
It's nice to see another strategy game in this jam. I think it's rare for people to make them. That being said, I didn't play it for too long. I was kind of confused on what I'm suppose to do.
I first kind of went west, where there was a farmer who I chased, but he just glitched over a river and I couldn't catch him. I killed his cows and burned his house but I had no indication this affects anything. I went north after that into some walls with spikes, and found 4 pieces of meat that I ate there, and again I had no indication on what that affects.
After that I just ran around a bit and then closed the game.
I really do believe this is a good game as I can see the effort put into it, but it really lacks a decent tutorial and indication on what are the results of doing stuff on the map.
It is crazy to make an entire RTS in 48 hours, Great Job!
The game was fun.But I had trouble understanding what I had to actually to do.A little tutorial at the start would have been pretty good I think.
Also In fullscreen mode I couldnt use my mouse for some reason
I like the mini-RTS idea, and a different control scheme which is about using a horde of guys. This works really well!
It seemed a bit hard for me though, as I could only get a few guys and there were a lot of enemies. Your troops also died quite quickly.
I also had a slightly weird thing where the edges of the screen were a bit cut off, but that didn't affect things too much.
But this is a really cool concept, and I like seeing alternative ideas for strategy games. You should polish it up and expand it!
Interesting control scheme and an interesting take on an RTS, it's fun. I really like the world you have built
Very fun game. I really enjoyed how you control the king with your mouse, it worked quite well for me :-)
you don't see many RTS games in jams so this was cool! The perennial issue of bad pathing is hard to escape in this genre, it seems and the strange collision did get many of my goblins stuck :(
I think balance was an issue as well, sometimes my goblins would melt like butter, other times they wouldn't. Also, I noticed a collision issue where I spawned a goblin inside of some trees and he got stuck there.
This game has some good concepts that has some potential, nice opening scene too, but needs improvements. Unfortunately, I did not manage to complete the game because the goblins died too quickly, a single human killed 6 goblins all on his own. I think this isn’t supposed to happen, because sometimes, I only had 3 goblins and they managed to kill a human and I only lost 1 goblin. The behavior of humans is relentless, they will be able to continue their attack at all times phasing through walls, whereas goblins get torn between multiple targets and colliding with themselves to the point of not being able to attack efficiently. I can’t really strategize much, I just put my goblin king in place and hope for the best. There are other collision problems like having a cow run away into the unreachable rivers or have a goblin stuck in a wall, and that would basically mean game over as there’s not enough food to create enough goblins to take down the humans. Sometimes, it was also hard to tell what terrain is passable and what isn’t, because the goblin king can go anywhere, it’s only until the goblins get stuck that you know what isn’t passable. Other suggestions would be to improve on the RTS aspect - give players more information so that they can actually use tactics to their advantage.
I can tell that a lot of effort has been put into this game. I enjoyed it enough to play it 8 times, trying to beat it, but I think the aforementioned problems made it too difficult. Good job nonetheless! All the best!
Yeah I was using the sprites on the tilemap as a collider, I shouldve manually done it or used a solid square sprite without transparencies as the collider uses mesh data which leads to the issues with game objects clipping places. Deffo going to fix it after the jam :D The goblin ai currently doesnt update targets if the enemy isnt moving which causes issues but I have a fix for it aswell hahaha. I very much appreciate you playing it so much!
Interesting mechanics, but I didn't really understand how you can win when humans kill your goblins so fast, even when you have 8 of them :(
Also there are small collision bugs where enemies and cows can go through walls and become unreachable
Haha balancing is an issue I agree. But its doable some of my twitch peeps were able to do it after a few attempts.
The collision issues (tilemap collider sucks) I'm fixing in the post jam build as well as goblins attacking AI! (Atm they dont attack new targets after killing their own target which adds to the difficulty sadly)/
Appreciate the play <3
