Neat concept, with some more polish on the rougher edges this could be a pretty solid picman like game. For example, my units should automatically attack nearby enemies and maybe have some HP on the player character

I had to play the browser version(i'm on a Mac). The performance is weird, it's laggy but also everything happens way to fast in the game. Not sure what's the gameplay speed on desktop versions.

I was not able to get far due to performance issues but I'd like to give one piece of constructive feedback. Units should auto attack nearest/any target if I haven't given a target. Like this I run around from goblins, my troops run with me and goblins next to them and they don't attack them.

This seems cute but performance was very inconsistent in the browser version. Sometimes it was fine and sometimes it was totally unplayable. Performance didn't seem to depend on how many meeples were on the screen. There were times where I was seen just a couple of frames per second even at the very beginning. Running in Chrome. Without a linux export I can't try out the desktop version.

Developer

Hi! We just uploaded the linux version! Sorry but we didn't have time to do it before! Please, tell us if you find any issues :)

Awesome! I'll give it a go. I forgot to mention in the last comment that the browser version also crashed several times for me. The screen would just go black, though sound kept playing. I had to reload the tab to get it going again. One time a Javascript alert popped up with an error message from Unity, which I should have copied so I could send it to you but I didn't, sorry. I believe the crashes all happened when I clicked on an enemy.

Yep, the desktop version worked much better. Performance was perfectly reasonable and no crashes. This was fun to play with and I can definitely see an expanded version with more distinct kinds of meeples being fun as a full game.

I found the king's controls a bit awkward. I often had trouble getting him to pick up coins and would have to circle back several times before it worked. Making the hit boxes a bit larger might be enough to fix that.

The routing on the meeples was problematic. It was often a struggle to get them all through a gate without some getting trapped in a corner. I think using basic pathfinding rather than just moving straight towards the king would fix that

The mechanism for assigning how many meeples should attack an enemy took me a while to figure out. It basically wasn't until I came to one of the keys with a number that counted down as you assigned meeples to it that I figured out what was going on. I'm not sure that that mechanism was adding much to the game. I can see how it could allow you to strategically split your forces or something but that didn't seem to be useful or possible in this version. At least it would be nice to make it clearer what's going on.

It also was not clear to me if the different prices for the meeples corresponded to differences in combat effectiveness or if some were just better deals than others. If there were differences between the different types they were too subtle for me to see in the big fights.

The camera was a bit off as well. It would have been nice to be able to see further and there were several times, I think always when I was moving down, that I lost basically all visibility in the direction I was heading.

Amazing feedback! Thank you very much.

I mostly agree on everything, especially on the pathfinding issue, we didn't have much time to implement that but I'm certain it would improve the game.
And yes, the expensive units do deal more damage, you are right that wasn't very clearly comunicated, again because of time. Maybe some attack number above the units or something like that would have helped with that.

We may update it in the future fixing those. Again thank you a lot for taking the time to write such a detailed review, it is really helpful :)

The game concept is very cool. I like the idea of having a huge army fighting for me. I had fun playing it. Good game! :)

Solid entry, nice concept of gathering your army while being the most vulnerable king ever. Love how you used the assets and made use of so many of the character sprites. wish the camera would not be so 'wobbly' and maybe a bit further out to see more where the king was moving. Sometimes I directed him right into a mob of enemies that I couldn't see before. Other than that it was a lot of fun to play

I love the voices! Cool concept, great enemies. Was not a fan of the camera angle but it's a very good game!

This game was really well done for 48 hours! My performance wasn't the best as I had to play the web version, but I understand that the downloadable plays better. I liked the interesting camera angle, it made the world seem like a little toy model. The mix of action and RTS was a cool idea you've explored here too, but I was a little confused at first how things worked.

Overall, well done and a great entry to the jam.

It reeeeallly needs a Linux export, I can't really play it enough to rate it in browser :(

We just uploaded a Linux version! You can try it now if you wish :)

This game is excellent; the graphics, music, little SFX voices of my serfs, everything was great. Had an issue where the music started playing twice towards the end of the game, and they were slightly out of sync so it was a bit annoying. Other than that this game is fantastic, and with some extra features & levels, could be easily transformed into a successful paid game, with a potential to port to mobile platforms as well.

Well done!

Very cool game. Had bad performance problems in the WebGL version but the Windows version worked fine. Got Pikmin vibes, wasn't sure what the different types of recruits do though. Looks great, I like that style!

Game seems fun but I wasn't able to play it really :( performance was really bad for me, like 5 fps at most, sometimes it frozed completely for a couple of seconds, so it was hard for me not to die.

I'm on a Mac so I can only play the browser version. I know that my computer might not be the best so maybe this is just happening to me, so unfortunately I can't leave a rating.

Let me know if you work on improving performance or on adding the mac version and I'd give it another try.

Great! I love the madness of trying to give RTS controls while frantically running away from enemies. Also props for making a 3D game

Quite a fun and well polished game. Performance in the browser wasn't perfect, but you already noted that in the description. Difficulty was reasonable, and I neither struggled to make progress nor played through without effort. I wasn't always completely happy with the camera angle, but it was good enough. In a full game I would expect to see more specialized serfs and more varied enemies, but this is quick to play and learn which is good for its length.

The camera angle was a bit awkward but everything else was really cool!

Funny game. I like this jump animations. But it too hard for me (i honestly trying around 5 times :D).

Also i like goblin sounds. :)

But i dont like a palette, u can change it to improve whole game filling.

Anyway great work! Good luck!

Nice and polished game! Very impressive for 48 hours. The sound was great and the topdown perspective was really well executed. A couple of things that bugged me:
- I was expecting different "minions" to have different abilities requiring different tactics, but it didn't seem like it. It could really add a new dimension to the strategy part of the game.
- Even though i had a horde of minions i still felt pretty weak as a king because there are no extra ways to protect him (other than spam attack faster)

cool game, the idea of a medieval rhythm combat game just cracks me up. I feel like this idea has a lot of potential and could be really fun if developed further.

Really great and unique game

I wish there was checkpoints on doors

also the angle of the camera makes it somewhat hard to control the player

Like the game's concept and excecution! It gave me strong pikmin vibes for sure. I liked commanding my units around and getting an ever-growing army of serfs. Really fun game and really polished, if you were to continues working on this game I would suggest improving the pathfinding because my guys would always get stuck on walls.

This is soo good! I wish pathfinding was a little better, but sometimes I exploited it against the enemies ;) Very satisfying and fun game. I wish for a full version!
