I absolutely love the concept, it would make a great fully fledged game, however a bit more visual feedback or some visual way of showing the rhythm would really help, maybe the anvil could pulse or something. It felt a little frustrating at times when I felt like tapped the rhythm the same one time and it was rejected and then the same at it was accepted. TLDR - I love it, but it's unforgiving!

Great Game! I really liked the animation w/ the hammer and anvil. I could totally see this being expanded into crazier rhythms / time signatures.


I will say however, that I think the tutorial had a bit too much explanation. I also think that having to create 10 shovels at the end of the tutorial was a bit redundant.


Overall, however, great work!

The look of the game was cool, and it seemed very well polished, but I tend to be really bad at rhythm games in general, so I wasn't able to do much more than get partway through the tutorial.

I'm not too used to play musical or rhythmic games, but I'm quite used to play music! On my keyboard at least, the space bar feels different and not as easy to play as any other keys (or clicking).

I like the idea and the building music so much, but it was very frustratingly inconsistent. It doesn't seem clear what point the game starts "listening for a new pattern" and it's not clear what went wrong when it disapproves. There needs to be feedback to understand what's wrong. The only feedback currently is a binary success failure that shows up a full two beats after you've done a pattern. The fantasy I imagine is to be able to smoothly chain together many patterns with only a single beat between them, to really get a flow state going.

 The sword pattern caused the most frustration. It seemed  more complex for the game to understand than the player. I kept being interrupted, during the first pause for the game to tell me it was wrong and scrap the whole progress I made on the sword. Since it's impossible for the sword's pattern to overlap with either of the other tools, I'd imagine it's possible to force the game to listen longer once it records three consecutive beats, right? I was only sometimes able to succeed at building a sword by waiting several seconds between each stage and even then it was never consistent. I am only so frustrated because it's such a cool idea and it seemed to be working so well until I tried the sword. Thank you for your work, I hope you expand on this.

I'm very sorry to hear the game frustrated you :( I think some aspects of the game are not clear, which I'm gonna continue working on.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough resources to test out the game, there could be a problem in how it counts beats on your device, might be some input lag, which differs greatly across devices. If you have time, I'd appreciate if you could record a video of you playing, it would help me figure out how different players play and how the game behaves. If you can't, no worries!

I wish noone frustrates over my games, I only want people to have fun as I do. I wish you a good day and I hope you get some rest after unfortunate experience, I know how a game can spoil a mood :(

I really liked the game but I would have loved some visual feedback with the beat I should follow. A metronome or something like that... and a smithy dancing in the back would have been delightful.

Smithy dancing in the background is a nice idea :)) I wanted to have a line of customers moving to the beat of the music, but, due to time constraints decided to keep everything to the minimum.

Definitely gonna work on more visual feedback in the full game!

Game has a cool concept. You could expand on this.
Like for example, having some really difficult commands would be fun.

You can always develop more post-gamejam!

I really like rhythm games despite being terrible at them and this was a really nice change from the traditional DDR format lots of others have used. The soundtrack is also really good and helped you keep in time with the requests. All around a really engaging and super well polished game, Awesome job. (maybe add a more forgiving version for people who are bad at it like me xD)

I liked this a lot! I really like rhythm games. One thing I wouldn't mind is more feedback on when the hits are registering on your own anvil. I wish we got a sound effect like the blacksmith; then I would know how to correct myself if I'm slightly off. I can see when I hit, but I feel like I need a sound to sync it up properly and feel the rhythm.

Again, great job making an unexpected type of game! I had a lot of fun!

When I started making the game I immediately did use the same hitting sound for the player as for the teacher. Actually, teacher was made later and used the player's sound. Unfortunately, I had to remove the player's hit sound due to performance reasons.

Somehow, when the player hits space, there's a very small lag when the sound plays, depending on a device. Even if the lag was super tiny, it still affected the playing so much that I couldn't play any rhythm at all - I would slow down or just mess the rhythm. It was a difficult decision for me, because it is somewhat illogical from the reality point of view, I decided to remove the sound until I optimize the lag.

No, that makes sense! It would be way worse with a desynced sound than with no sound!

LOL this was exactly one of our ideas, but we discarded it because we had never made a rhythm game before. Amazing job :)

I already had some experience in rhythm games before this jam, so, yes, I would say if you have to make a rhythm game in 48 hours without prior experience it might be a very difficult task, mainly because of input and output lags everywhere. They are easy to solve, but require some time and heavy testing.

For example, in my game I was kinda forced to remove hit sound for the player, because it had output lag and messed the player's rhythm. I believe it is possible to optimize it, but I didn't have time to do it.

Very interesting idea! I am not good in rhythm games so it could be on my end, but often my combo didnt register correctly. As I said, could be on my end. The sound for correctly done or failing are a bit to dominant, they interrupt the awesome soundtrack in the background. With a bit more polish, I can see me playing this again.

I have plans for a full game, so I'm gonna definitely work registering issues out.

I'm glad you like my music! Unfortunately, I didn't have time to write according sound effects for fail and success, so I used Kenney music jingles, but I will write my own for the future game.

I'm really interested what was happening with your playthrough. So, if you have some spare time, I would be happy if you could send me a video of you playing, that probably would help. Anyway, though, I'm gonna work on difficulty curve adjustment, like more training levels, adjustment to the music tempo, so it's slower on easier levels etc.

some visual sugestion that it's time to press space or let a pause. Like maybe changing the color of the tool.
