good game and fun GJ

Great Work, graphics-wise looks simple and well put together, even if the map is small at the begging I wandered around a little bit and got lost, only later I was able to mentally marked the map.
Better landmarks will surely solve the problem for newcomers.
After all, I really enjoyed the game once I got handy with the lasso mechanic.

well howdy. took me too long to figure out that i can lasso traps lol was a lot of fun. loving the art

I saw this game on Vimlark's stream and had to check it for myself. He certainly made it look more difficult than it actually was, I got the boss on a fourth try I think. The lasso feels a bit strange, but I think it's actually because it's hard to tell the aimed angle just from the rotation of the big circle around the player. Some kind of a more directional visual cue would help that. Other than that I really liked the game, the difficulty is scaled fine with the sheep>boars>bandit boss. Some kind of a stylized map in the village showing the world layout would also spare the player some random wandering in the beginning.

Thanks so much for the comment! We definitely don't communicate enough information to the player because we were short on time, but this was the only time we got a little frustrated watching someone's playthrough. The lasso hitbox and stun durations can be unforgiving at times though so I understand some of his difficulties with it xD

We talked about visual indicators for the lasso, but I actually snap the lasso target position if the angle is within 60 degrees of where you're aiming to make it a lot easier so an indicator of where its going to land might look weird, not to mention its spinning. My other idea was just to change the cursor color when the timing is right. Open to suggestions if you had an idea in mind for the indicator! We had the idea that the lasso would also hit anything along its path to make it easier and Vimlark actually suggested this too, but we didn't have time for the change. Other people have suggested a minimap, but I think I like your idea of having a map in the village a lot more!

Thanks for playing and all the feedback! Good job capturing that dastardly Diggle too!

Great work. The lasso was a bit finicky for me but I really like the overall concept!

This was a cool game! Would have loved for the lasso to go towards the cursor, lots of small touches that I really liked

Submitted(+1)

I think the lasso mechanic is cool you did something different instead of having it just go to the cursor. Good job.

Submitted(+1)

Really neat interpretation of the theme! The final boss is also great, my only complaint is that it takes a long time to get back to the town, but I really like that the lasso doesn't shoot towards the cursor, and must be timed right by yourself. Overall, a really great game!

Developer

Lol glad someone likes the added difficulty of timing the lasso 😂 thanks for playing!

Love the art style! And the main lasso mechanic is super satisfying to play with! Great work! :)

Thank you for showing the playthrough. Any game with cactus gets a +1  =)

Developer

Thanks for stopping by the stream, I asked if you had a game to submit as I didn't have a queue but you had already left! Stop by again if you want to see me play yours <3 (I also didn't do a full playthrough I was just talking about some of the stuff in our game so be sure to try it too if you haven't already xD)

Great art style and the lasso mechanic was fun to use when it worked. A lot of the time it seemed to disappear or not throw as fast as I expected. I think having the lasso auto-hook as long as it passes over your target would've been better as nailing the direction already feels like challenge enough. Also, the ability to have multiple targets lasso'd at once would've made the back and forth a bit less tedious perhaps at the cost of movement speed or something?

Nice game though, and well polished!

Developer

Thanks for all the feedback! The lasso should always land at your cursor as long as you time it right, but the lasso hitbox can feel really unforgiving at times. cosmic sans suggested the lasso auto hook during development, but I think it didn't make it in due to time. We also talked about being able to drag multiple things or lassoing things together, but that also didn't make it in. The slower speed when pulling multiple things is an awesome idea though!

Great fun to play and good implementation of joined together :D

The art is really good too!

Submitted(+1)

Lovely concept, but it just felt a bit boring. lots of walking in an empty space, the bandits were a nice touch but level design was a bit bare. The art was really nice, simple and easy to read and consistent.

Submitted(+1)

I like the lasso idea. I enjoy this kind art design. The boars was really pain in the ass.

Submitted(+1)

The idea is nice and it is well done regarding the visual effects. However, it was quite hard to aim lasso and I wasn't able to catch the boars even when I hit them directly (or at least it seemed like direct hits).

Developer

The boars require more effort than the sheep to lasso, you  have to shoot at them to anger them which causes them to charge you. Then you try to bait them into stuff (the exploding barrels in their area, rocks) to stun them, which lets you land the lasso while they're stunned. We had a better idea for this but couldn't get it in for the jam. Thanks for playing nonetheless!

Submitted(+1)

its really hard to aim the lasso, and also you need to click when the lasso is over the sheep. it would've been better if it would automatically capture the sheep if the player is far enough.

Developer(+1)

We wanted to make it feel like a real lasso and have a bit of a learning curve, but we still could have made it a little easier. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Once I got the hang of the lasso it was quite fun, however I couldn't seem to catch the boars even when stunning them? I'm sure I'm just bad lol. Either way, job well done, and very original take on the theme!

If you get a chance, please consider checking out my game! :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Only tip is to make sure you're actually aiming at your target and not over it, you want the lasso to land onto them and not fly over. Next time will definitely make it easier to use to limit this kind of confusion :)

Submitted(+1)

I certainly had that confusion, especially at first, but great job regardless, and thanks for replying to my comment! :)

Submitted(+1)

Fun game, only big piece of feedback is the stun could be a bit longer.

Developer

Thanks for playing! in some situations the stun's length depends on how you go about it. For example with Diggle and the bear traps, the lower his health the lower the stun is.

Red Dead Redemption x Enter the Gungeon x Worms = Mr. Lasso. Really, really awesome game with great mechanics on show. THE ROPE BENDS WHEN YOU GO ROUND A CORNER THAT'S AWESOME. Could do with some music and game feel, but fantastic nonetheless.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! we wanted to get more polish/audio/gamefeel in but ran out of time sadly. Maybe in a more polished post-jam version :)

Submitted(+1)

Works well, feels good, questionable adherence to the team but you defiantly compensate for it

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it :)
