Great job! I love the presentation here and the idea of wrangling up animals and bandits with your lasso. It can be a bit tough to catch the boars but I like mixing in shooting your gun with using the lasso. Overall nice job!

I like the western theme, and the lassoing is cool in principle. I played the game to completion and there were a couple of things that bothered me, but overall it was a pretty decent experience.

The good:

  • Art style, color palette, etc. were pleasant
  • The lasso mechanic, when it worked, was pretty satisfying
  • I liked the open world design of the game, very RDR2 of you

The bad:

  • I pressed R to reload the revolver maybe five times before learning to avoid that reflex – a different keybind (escape?) might be better for me
  • Lasso hit detection was super demanding, you had to hit the things exactly center mass or it wouldn’t register. Quite often the lasso would seemingly pass right through objects or animals.
  • If you lasso an object, there’s seemingly no way to detach it and the only way I found was to respawn. If there’s some keybind listed for detaching the lasso I didn’t find it.
  • At first I didn’t realize there was a boss and I thought I had to collect an infinite amount of the regular bandits – I thought the Diggle picture on the board refered to the bandits. This one might be on me though since the bandits are a different color.
  • Diggle had a tendency to run away from the traps and escape into the rest of the level which was a little bit annoying because the only way to capture him is with the traps as far as I know
  • Some music to further improve the atmosphere would be nice

Overall it’s a reasonably well polished experience and most of my problems with it are fairly minor. I think you guys did a pretty good job, congrats!

[EDIT: in retrospect I should have split this up to “the good”, “the bad” and “the ugly” to fit the western theme, but that might have come across as a bit harsh]

I love the game!! The mechanics are cool, the sound effects are cool, but I just don't get it. You just need to shoot the sheep or do you have to do something else? :)

Banger game. After I got used to the way the lasso worked it was quite some fun. Catching stuff felt good and consistent. The final boss was very cool and showed some of the potential of the game. This could become a really good post-jam game with some more mechanics and stuff.

This was really cool! I love the progression here - it felt really natural. Figuring out how to lasso unwilling targets took a little trial and error, but it was fun to figure out. The art was great, too. I think my only criticism is that the first mission felt a little repetitive because of all the backtracking, but it got much more interesting when the targets started fighting back a bit. Great work!

The game is relatively simple and fun to play. The lasso mechanic is really fun to toy around and to drag sheep around a cactus indefinitely. I do wish the lasso was used a bit more, for example grabbing a case of TNT and throwing it at my enemies. Or to grab a bear trap and trow it to stun my enemies. That way there would be no need for a gun. Perhaps you can lasso the bullets out of mid air and throw it back.

The map is relatively big and open, but far too easy to get lost in and it often its hard for me to find the way back.

The particle effects are very much on point.

I do wish for the character to flip to the side you are aiming/walking at. Since now the character is always back walking to the left.

yeah we really wanted to do more of that kind of stuff with the lasso! Maybe in a post-jam version. (Also you're the first person to mention, maybe notice the sprites don't mirror!) Thanks for playing!!

oh my gosh, the particle effects on dragging the 'catch?' back to the town, so great! Very clean game :D

I've seen a few games like this, but I really appreciate that your lasso timing is much more forgiving. That's huge for a game jam. I was actually able to play this! The core gameplay is very straight forward and you executed your goal very well.

The core loop for me was a little underwhelming though. Find a thing, grab it, bring it back. I think the pacing might have benefitted more from only doing one of each type of target, since subsequent boards just feel repetitive.

The game looks really nice, too. Well done on making this in 48 hours!

Hey! Sorry I didn't get to stream your game the other night.

I enjoyed the mechanics and the cute art/sounds. The lasso is a little tough to get right, as you need to be dead-on to snag something, but once you get the hang of things it's pretty fun!

That was a lot of fun! Challenging lassoing but very rewarding once you drag your haul back to town, and the wrapping around obstacles is super slick!

Interesting mechanic! It took a bit of time for me to find the sheep and bring them back, so I suggest having a smaller level. The core gameplay seems pretty fun tho. Great job!
