The level of polish on this is really impressive. The game looks good, plays well, and is an interesting take on the theme.

Thank you for playing! We're glad you liked the game!

Great job on a very well polished and solid game. All the components like graphics, story, music and gameplay fit  perfectly together. I thought how the theme was fit in was great. The idea of building a terrarium for the creatures was very original and well execute. Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words and thank you for playing. We're glad you enjoyed it!

Great game! Very polished and it looks quite good. Music was also very nice to listen to, it was interesting and engaging while not being distracting. The gameplay was nice, it had some difficulty but you'd get used to it after retrying a couple of times. The characters were also very fun though I wished the text could've been shown faster or at least be able to be fast forwarded without skipping dialogue. I also felt there times where the physics would get a bit wild but it was still manageable.

Good job!

Developer

Thank you for playing. We're glad you liked it!

We're looking into the text skipping problem. It should not be skipping. It should be showing  the full text!

Submitted(+1)

A really cozy game. I just encountered one issue: when I click to show the full text instantly, it sometimes skips directly to the next scene. But overall, it's a very solid submission!

Developer

Thank you for playing!

We're looking into why this is happening, it really should not. Do you know if it happens on specific levels?

Submitted(+1)

It was for all the text. Sometimes, when I click, it skips the entire dialogue instead of just skipping the writing animation and showing the full text. Other times, it works correctly and simply reveals the whole dialogue.

Very polished with a nice laid back vibe. A nice story and definitely one of the more unique entries I have played this jam. Great work!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing, we're glad you enjoyed it!

There are several terrarium/aquarium type games in this jam. I think yours is the most unique. I really like the concept. A couple suggestions 1) You should be able to return to the menu after completing a level 2) Is there a really need for both sand and soil? Adds to the confusion a bit when starting out. 3) Maybe one click on the box and all the items drop out of the box? A bit tedious to click one by one. Good entry overall, definitely fits the theme. Here’s how I did on my first try.

Developer

We're glad you liked the concept! Thanks for all the suggestions!

Exiting after a game makes so much sense, we'll add it after the jam!

Our thinking for having sand and soil is that sand is for when you need a little bit of a finer filler material, where as dirt is larger. It also adds diversity so you can do some funky layering and mix it up! You can for sure complete all the levels by using one or the other, but we believe having a choice is good!

We thought it would be fun to grab them one by one from the box as a little surprise for what comes next, although we understand for retrying the level multiple times it could get tedious.

Amazing game! Very well made and fun to play!

You guys have talent. Very high quality!

Developer

Thank you for you kind words!

I enjoyed the process of customizing the terrariums! Art and music were great. I also liked how each character has its own personality and quirks. I did notice that sometimes the physics would go wonky.

Developer

Thank you for playing. Glad to hear you've enjoyed the game.

The physics are not ideal, we would like to tweak them to perfection but they are sometimes funny as they are!

This is a seriously professional, polished game, especially considering the tight deadlines. Very impressive work!

Developer

It does bring a tear to our eye to hear that! Thank you, we tried to do our best for our first jam!

There is some really nice and charming artwork in this game. Love it. The whole vibe, with the well chosen music and story, make this a fun little gem.

Really well-made game. It looks clean and plays well. The art looks great and very polished, and the music fits really well. Overall, the game feels very professional. The only thing I would change is how picking up items works. Right now, it drops them first before letting you pick them up again. Also, it would be better if selecting another item kept the dirt enabled after dropping an item, to make it easier to use.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and for your feedback!

The items drop because in some levels you might get an item that needs to be on the top and you can then spawn another you need to place lower. If the spawned object was held, the players would have to drop it then spawn another.  Plus we feel like spawning all the items feels fun and messy, like how it would be in the real world!

That's a good idea to re-enable the soil/sand after an object has been dropped! We'll add it after the jam as it requires a little more code and it's more of a feature than a bug!

Thank you!

Overall - What a polished game! I'm shocked this isn't already on Steam! You guys really knocked this out of the park. The presentation, the art style, the game mechanics. Everything was really top notch! Amazing work! My wife plans to keep playing after she gets home from work haha!

Fun - Definitely fun! Lots of variation between the terrariums and the characters. Really a delightful game through and through.

Theme - Definitely nailed the theme.

Aesthetics - Really really cute aesthetic. It felt so dang cozy! Mad props to your artist, this was a really delightful eyeful.

Music - Cute, unobtrusive, fit the vibe perfectly. Really excellent

Sound - Same note as the music. Everything was just so, so good.

Mechanics - I had a great time decorating! I wish I was able to rotate the items once I had picked them up. Leaving their orientation up to the whims of the swinging physics system made for some unfortunate drops!

Story - Hilarious and heartfelt. I could really feel the care that went into making this game through the story and how relatable it was. Everybody gets those first day jitters! And second day! AND THIRD DAY!

Woah, thank you for such an in-depth review!

We're very happy to hear you feel the game is polished, we'd still like to touch it up a bit here and there. As for it being on Steam we feel like it would need at least double the current levels +  some extra features that aren't limited by WebGL + some repeatable content for people to play because right now it's a short game! We're considering our options with this one for sure! - If people wanna buy it for what it is right now they can do so through Itch too haha.  (P.S. we do have a steam game in progress called Oh Tennis #ad)

We're so glad it turned out fun, it was a little tricky to chose the way  the player interacts with the objects and how they interact with each other to make sure it's fun but challenging!

Our main focus was to be spot on with the theme, because we felt that was the point of the jam! :D

Our artist is great, but because he's an artist his words were "Eh it could've been better"! The eternal struggle of artists eh? haha

Music wise we were forced by the timeframe to rely on the YouTube audio library. Had we had more time I would've liked to try make our own music (Even though I don't know anything about that lol).

Sound wise we did spend some time on it as sound is 70% of the feel of the game. There's still some adjustments I'd like to make there.

Mechanics wise, technically the item should rotate based on where you grab them from I imagine it like picking up an item with two fingers by a point, the rest of it should dangle below. You can also do a flick of the wrist with the item to throw it in the air and then catch it again in a better position! We'll have to take a look and balance that out, but we also like the chaotic nature of the items not falling into place and your monitor being seconds away from an imminent punch!

Story wise we're glad we could deliver, we were lucky to have a writer with us that made the characters feel alive. If it was only us developers I'm not sure they would be half as good or even exist!

Thank you again for your detailed review it means a lot to hear people like our game! Good luck to the wife getting those 3 stars on all the levels (or get all the dialogs for all the levels ;) - meaning get 1, 2, 3 starts on each!).

Energetic Ant enters shop: "AAAAAAA"

Me, also: "AAAAAA!"

A very unique idea! And extremely polished presentation.

There's a lot of dialogue but as the game went along more and more typos started to crop up:

'prove to you'

'from all over'

'what challenges will'

And so on.

As far as game play goes, it's fun to build the terrariums and try to follow along. Some objects are very difficult to deal with, and there is perhaps a bit too much randomness in the size of the rocks you can get. Sometimes you'll have tiny ones, other times huge ones and I relied a lot of rock and branch placement to box in the important items.

Here's how I did overall. I think Shy Snail's was the hardest to manage:

Developer(+1)

Woah! Thanks a lot for the detailed review! It means the world to us you've played through the entire game!

Thank you for pointing out the spelling mistakes, English is not  our main language so we let some typos slip through - we're only human :D. But we'll be fixing them ASAP!

We have considered making the rock sizes vary less for a more consistent gameplay experience, however it was after the submission period and changing it now would mean needing to make extra art which we consider a feature. We'll look into tweaking it after the jam!

Some objects were added very last minute to the levels to add some spice and we didn't get to properly playtest them, but I can assure you that before adding the items the levels were too easy!

Seeing you got about 50% 2 and 3 stars feels like we struck a nice balance but we will look into it to try and make the finnicky objects less difficult to place!

Thank you again for playing and for leaving so much feedback!

Nice cozy home builder for little critters.  Took me a moment or too to understand how to place the soil, but once I understood, it was a nice challenge.

Lovely graphics and nice to chat to each customer before making their dream home.

Nice work!
