Bug list

Quick info;

The launcher and the in-game tool will be separated below. If an existing temporary solution exists, then it will be written just underneath the listed bug.

GameTranslate Tool

  • Issue: Some games experience 'double input'
  • Issue: Older games may have the in-game cursor and the GameTranslate cursor not aligning
  • Issue: Civilization VI 'locks' the mouse for 1~ second when the mouse cursor is on top of a menu item and the overlay is activated
  • Issue: Older games may have the mouse cursor disappearing after using the overlay
  • Fix: Move or click your mouse to bring it back

GameTranslate Launcher

  • Issue: Games on Epic Games/Steam may have trouble being launched through GameTranslate
  • Fix: Launch the game through Epic Games/Steam first and then click launch on GameTranslate
  • Issue: Not possible to see or save two .exes with the same name

  • Issue: Bitdefender mistakenly flags GameTranslate_x64.dll as malware (False Positive)
  • Fix:
  1. Open Bitdefender → Protection → Antivirus → Settings → Manage exceptions.
  2. Add an exception for the installation directory (e.g., D:\example or C:\example).
  • Additional Issue: Bitdefender quarantining the DLL may cause the "Verify that you have access to that directory" error
  • Fix: Delete the GameTranslate installer and its folder, create a new folder, and reinstall inside it.
  • Issue: The Refresh button sometimes becomes unclickable.
  • Fix: Restarting the app resolves the issue.

Hello.

My need for this software is to translate console games that I capture with Avermedia card. It uses RECentral 4 software to show the capture screen. Any way to do it because now it only crashes.

Moi!

This sounds a little bit tricky. I am not entirely sure how RECentral is built. The logs do tell that DX11 is found, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it uses that to render its content. Which is required to run GameTranslate. I'm unavailable to look into this much deeper for 2~ days. Meanwhile, could you try to pick each renderer separately, launch and see if anything different happens?

Thank you.

Developer

Moi moi!

I looked into RECentral 4 but I couldn't get it to work at all, it doesn't even hook into it for me. I don't know how it operates and the information on it isn't exactly vast.

I did however try OBS and it works on that recording/streaming software, so you could try that if it is possible for you?

Cheers!

Developer

Hi tzibu!

The new update is out now, please try it out and let me know how it works out for you. It should no longer be a problem to use the app with RECentral 4 (in windowed and borderless fullscreen mode!). I have not had a chance to try it myself yet, but in theory it should work with the new 'Attached' mode.

Thank you! :)

Hi,

now the REcentral does start with every renderer, but the text capture doesn't work.
Works on the tutorial so the button I've assigned for it works.

Developer

Did you try the 'attached' launch button? Only the 'internal' button is affected by changing the renderers. Please do try 'desktop' too! :)

Developer

I just had a chance to test it for myself. On my PC, attached mode crashes when trying to initialize the capturing method. I believe this happens because RECentral uses the same capturing method as we do. Desktop mode works fine, but since neither desktop nor attached mode is rendered inside RECentral, but rather on the outside, I think that those two modes would not at all work for your use case..?

I hope to be able to make the 'Internal' mode work for RECentral someday, but this is far from a priority & it seems to work just fine with other streaming applications.

GameTranslate_0.1.53 Bug Report

23.2.25

Summary

GameTranslate has multiple issues, including incorrect translations, font compatibility problems, antivirus flagging, instability, and inconsistent performance.

Bugs & Problems

1. Translation Issues

Custom Fonts & Translation Accuracy

  • Issue: Some games use custom fonts, making it difficult for GameTranslate to read and translate text.
  • Example: The internal translation is often completely wrong or of low quality. It struggles particularly with text in unique/custom fonts.
  • Tested Case: English → Polish translation using DeepL Free generally works well, though some minor translation errors exist.

Japanese → English Translation (23.2.25)

  • Issue: Both the internal and DeepL Free translations for Japanese to English are often incorrect and unhelpful.
  • Observation: Occasionally, a good translation appears, but most of the time, the output is vague and barely comprehensible.

Examples:

  •

2. Bitdefender Flagging GameTranslate_x64.dll or Gen:Variant.Johnnie as a Threat

  • Issue: Bitdefender mistakenly flags GameTranslate_x64.dll as malware (False Positive).

**Do this before launching the program**

  • Fix:
    1. Open Bitdefender → Protection → Antivirus → Settings → Manage exceptions.
    2. Add an exception for the installation directory (e.g., D:\example or C:\example).
  • Additional Issue: Bitdefender quarantining the DLL may cause the "Verify that you have access to that directory" error.
    • Fix: Delete the GameTranslate installer and its folder, create a new folder, and reinstall inside it.

3. Inconsistent Game Launching & Stability Issues

  • Issue: Sometimes GameTranslate launches a game, sometimes it doesn’t.
  • Issue: GameTranslate sometimes crashes when quitting (especially with Alt+F4).

4. Specific Bugs

Bug_1: "Searching for Text" Mode Stuck (Offline, DeepL Free)

  • Issue: While playing Deltarune (though likely not game-specific), using the hotkey (Left Shift + Space) to translate text causes GameTranslate to get stuck in "searching for text" mode, preventing further translations.
  • Fix: Ensure an internet connection for DeepL Free, as it requires online access.
  • Recommendation: Add a popup or notification to inform users when an internet connection is required.

Bug_2: Refresh Button Unclickable

  • Issue: The Refresh button sometimes becomes unclickable.
  • Fix: Restarting the app temporarily resolves the issue.

edit: found the way to reproduce of the problem, it occurs after adding of removing a "path"

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

**NEW**

24.2.25

edit 2: after some more fiddling  i found a way to consistently make the "Refresh button", unclickable.  After clicking the Configuration tab and going back to games, it renders the Refresh button unclickable.

Recommendations for Developers

  1. Add a Tutorial:
    • The software is unintuitive for new users, even for tech-savvy individuals. A guide or onboarding tutorial would help.
  2. Notify Users About DeepL’s Internet Requirement:
    • Switching the translation engine to DeepL does not indicate that an internet connection is needed, which can confuse users when translations fail.
    • Also add a notification when internet connection is lost

Developer

Thank you!! A lot of this is incredibly helpful.

I'll try my best to respond!

There are many things that can be at fault when it comes to translation issues, which can make them very tricky things to do bug reports on.

Here are a few of the things that could go wrong;

GameTranslate takes screenshots to be able to later find text and translate it. Some games may operate very differently, thus creating issues with cursor alignment. You may visually be taking a snippet in one corner of the game, but in practice, the coordinates that are read and used for the screenshots are.. somewhere else.

After screenshots are taken, they are preprocessed, to make it easier to find text. There are edge cases where the preprocessing of the image makes it harder to find text. It can also be the case that the preprocessing simply isn't good enough.

Now we're at Optical Character Recognition (OCR). This is where the magic of finding and extracting text happens (or doesn't happen..). Sometimes, no text at all is found, other times some is missing and finally, if lucky, all of the text is extracted. Yet, even if all the text is extracted, it doesn't necessarily mean it is perfect for translation. More on that further below.
Currently, GameTranslate uses Tesseract OCR. It works very well with cleaner data (think documents), and not so great with images. There is still a lot of improvement to be made here, which hopefully results in a good enough engine to use for games. However, I am looking at and will eventually try other OCR engines that likely fit better for what GameTranslate wants to be able to do.

So, finally, we're at the translation stage. But first, back to the extracted OCR text.. It can very well be so that the OCR engine picks up symbols that are not actually present in the text, which makes the translator confused, resulting in badly translated text. Or, it could be perfect, and yet.. not perfect! Ahh! Why can't it just be easy?
Well. All the translations are made by machine-learned language models. There is A LOT of data that they get trained on. Unfortunately, bad data slips in, and out comes a shitty translation. As mentioned here, I am completely relying on Open Source Models because I simply do not have the money nor the expertise (right now) to create these on my own. Therefore, most unfortunately, when it comes to translations specifically, I have little to no impact.

Fortunately, fixing the previous steps, such as cursor alignments, preprocessing and OCR quality, is very much in my hands, and they make the biggest impact.

------------------------------------------

Thank you for the BitDefender example! I will make sure to use it.

------------------------------------------

Game launching is indeed a known problem, more often than not caused by external game launchers, such as Steam, Epic Games, or internal game launchers etc. This is not a massive priority, but be assured that it will improve in the future :)

The crashes that happen while quitting, I assume you mean the GameTranslate app itself? I have not experienced that myself, but it is worth looking into.

------------------------------------------

An online notification popup is a good idea, thank you for that and the bug report. I will look into it.

------------------------------------------

I have noticed that the refresh button gets stuck, I'm not sure if this is a regression that happened in newer versions, but I will look into it this coming week and fix it :)

------------------------------------------

The software is indeed very unintuitive at the moment, I apologize for that. A tutorial is very high on my priority list. I've been putting it off because it will take quite some effort to pull it off well (It is not as easy as it sounds to do this in-game..).
As a band-aid, I am considering adding something simple, but more intuitive, until I can create a solution that involves showing how to use the app without actually having to launch a game.

------------------------------------------

Again, thank you! These are the kind of acts that make development go faster and in the correct direction.

Developer

Oh and.. could you write down the names of these games that you're struggling to translate in? I'd like to take a closer look, if possible.

Bugs & Issues:

1. Cursor Movement Issue on Hovering Over (X) or Translation Bubble

  • When trying to click the (X) on the translation bubble, the cursor moves unpredictably, especially when the bubble is small.
  • Video:

2. Installation Directory & Shortcut Location Issue

  • Despite selecting D:\ as the installation directory, GameTranslate still creates a folder and shortcut in C:\.
  • Crash dump folder is also created in C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\GameTranslate\crashdump.
  • Question: Is this a bug or an intended feature?

3. False Positive Detection

  • Bitdefender flagged GameTranslate.exe as malware (Atc4.Detection) after launching Omori through GameTranslate.
  • Deleting the software through the installer leaves GameTranslate.exe behind, requiring elevated permissions to remove.
  • Update (25.2.25): After a Windows update, the file was gone.

4. Refresh Button Becomes Unclickable

  • Steps to replicate:
    1. Click the Configuration tab.
    2. Go back to Games and click Refresh.
    3. The Refresh button becomes unclickable.
  • Status: Known issue, confirmed.

5. Translation Struggles with Certain Fonts

  • Words like Collection, Shop, Redeem, Unlock Here are either incorrectly translated or not translated at all.
  • Game: Fallout Shelter
  • Language: English → Polish
  • Translation Engine: Internal

6. Crashes When Quitting via ALT+F4

  • GameTranslate sometimes crashes when force-closed using ALT+F4.

7. Translation Issues with Bright/Dark Text on Similar Backgrounds

  • The translator struggles with text visibility in high-brightness scenes.
  • When translated, text location and format are sometimes altered.
  • Video:

8. Out-of-Bounds Glitches

  • Screen Flickering Issue (May cause discomfort for eye-sensitive users)
    • If you move the cursor out of the screen while translating and return, the game may start flickering.
    • Fix: Press the translation keybind again.
    • Video:
  • FastKey Malfunction
    • Clicking outside of the game while using translation makes the translation bubble cover the entire game.
    • Fix: Press FastKey again.
  • Hotkeys Getting Stuck
    • After triggering the out-of-bounds glitch, the Space key appears stuck.
    • Pressing Left Shift triggers the translation bubble unintentionally.
    • Fix: Press any translation key to reset.

9. Hotkey & FastKey Crash Issue

  • Steps to replicate:
    1. Hold FastKey.
    2. Press AutomaticWindowKey twice.
    3. Press FastKey again.
  • Result: The game crashes.
  • Video:

10. Game Launch Issues via GameTranslate

  • Launching some games from GameTranslate prevents them from launching from their original launcher (e.g., Steam).
  • Affected Games: Rounds, Terraria.
  • Possible Fixes: Restarting Steam, GameTranslate, or PC.
  • Theory: Issue might be related to file synchronization, especially when offline.

11. Multiple Instances of GameTranslate Running

  • Closing GameTranslate does not fully exit the program.
  • Opening it again starts a separate instance instead of focusing on the already running one.

12. Duplicate Game Instances

  • Example: Rounds can be opened twice when launched through GameTranslate first and then through Steam.
  • Issue does not occur if launched in reverse order.

13. Delayed Game Launch via GameTranslate

  • A game took several minutes to start despite appearing inactive.
  • Status: Unable to replicate the issue consistently.

Feature Requests & Recommendations:

1. Improved Game Selector

  • GameTranslate detects all .exe files, leading to cluttered game lists.
  • Suggested Improvements:
    • Implement folder hierarchy to group related .exe files under the main game executable.
    • Add tabs like Favorites and Recently Played for better organization.

2. Key Bind Customization & Warnings

  • Some keybinds cause unexpected behavior (e.g., pressing F7 crashes the game).
  • Suggestion:
    • Add a disclaimer: "Key binds may interfere with game functions (e.g., skipping cutscenes, hiding UI, saving, pausing, closing the game). Please adjust key binds accordingly."
    • Allow custom keybind presets for each game.
    • Display a pop-up showing default keybinds and their functions.

Developer

Thank you very very much bud! Lots of useful information to digest here.

I will investigate and reply as time allows.

Developer

Hi again,

Got some time to look through these now.

1. I don't believe this is related to the X button specifically but rather the window as a whole. I've seen this issue prop up before in some games. Noted.

2.

 a) I can not reproduce this. Are you certain you didn't install it twice?

b) Yes, this is intended. Configuration files and logs are generally kept in appdata/roaming and on most systems these exist on the harddrive that contains the system.

3. Noted.

4. This was fixed in https://godnoken.itch.io/gametranslate/devlog/899911/update-022-arabic-bugfixes

5. Noted. Does it translate better with DeepL?

6. Can not reproduce. Not really an issue worth spending time on either.

7. Noted. This is a scenario that is very hard to fix. At the moment I do not know of a solution that could adapt to that many different contrasts and still make the text discernible enough for the translation to use it.

8.

a) Can not reproduce the flickering. Are you using the FastKey throughout the entire video?

b) Can not reproduce. However, I am pretty sure I have encountered this bug in the past myself. Noted.

c) Noted.

9. I was able to reproduce this crash and this will be fixed by the next version.

10. Noted. I don't think there is much I can do about this. It would be a Steam issue. A possible solution is to add GameTranslate.exe to Steam and launch it from there.

11.

a) This is intended. To exit you need to right-click the tray icon and exit. I may change this in the future.

b) Noted. I will definitely look into this and prevent GameTranslate from being able to be launched twice.

12. Again, not a GameTranslate issue. Can't fix this.

13. Noted.

Suggestions;

1.

a) The suggested folder hierarchy is likely not possible. Too many edge cases.

b) Favourites already exist in the form of the save icon. Recently played would be a nice addition though!

2. These are all three good suggestions & something that will be implemented down the line.

Thank you very much for your help & efforts. Every bug squashed is one step closer to a fully working seamless translation experience!

Hi Godnoken, I'm sorry for the somewhat bad Bug-Report. it explains it some stuff half assed.

2.  i have installed it multiple times (and also deleted it multiple times as well), but I think it may be there from previous installations.

5. I haven't tested it with other translation options, but i doubt it will matter. some of these fonts are big, curvy or to close to the contrast of the background.

I would have posted a picture but ITS A CHORE! From what i have done and tested you cant put in multiple pictures at once and if its in the wrong place you cant move it without deleting it and uploading it again INDUVIDALY.

Its a huge annoyance of mine.

8.

a) no, I hold it in until i click outside the window, then i can go back to the game and it'll look like I'm holding it in.

b) I tried to replicate it again for a couple of minutes but did not manage to get it to work.

Have a good day!

Developer

It's all good mate! I'm happy to get any bug reports and suggestions. There was plenty of valuable information that you gave me.

Hope you had a good weekend :)

Hi! I tried using your program with the Arabic language, but the text appears broken the letters are not connected, and the direction is left-to-right instead of right-to-left.

Arabic needs special rendering support for both letter shaping and correct direction. You may need to use libraries or frameworks that support RTL languages properly, or apply Arabic text shaping (for example, using libraries like arabic_reshaper and bidi if you’re working in Python or similar solutions for other environments).

Thanks for your hard work I hope full Arabic support can be added soon!

Developer

Hi mate,

Thank you very much for the bug report, it is much appreciated.

I do admit that I know nothing about the Arabic language, so this has gone completely past me. Thank you for the suggestions, the app is written in Rust but I will look at the libraries you mentioned and try to find something similar to fix these issues.

I don't think it will be done before the next update (that should come within a few days..), but I hope I can fix it for the next one!

I am very excited to play Garrys Mod Russian RP server :)

Developer

Implemented as of https://godnoken.itch.io/gametranslate/devlog/957434/update-043-arabic-rtl-suppo...

Thank you for the feedback mate!

Thank you!

I tried Rapid OCR, but it is bad and does not translate texts well. I hope to fix the problem or add a stronger engine.

Developer

Which source language did you use? Also, were you using an internal model or DeepL? Thank you.

(1 edit)

i use internal         source language: english

Developer

Hmm. Could you please give an image example? The English OCR model for Rapid is near perfect. Could be that the translation model is not good enough? It will be slightly worse than Google Translate for example. If you could try the DeepL model instead and see if you get much better translations that'd be great. Thank you!

Developer

Okay, I see the problem. GameTranslate does not currently support text that is angled. It has to be straight. I can fix this for next week :)

Developer

Hiya,

The 0.4.4 update does unfortunately still not handle angled text, however, at closer inspection I don't think this is a problem with angled text.. Do you get similar results capturing any text that is straight? For example the "Do you want to know anything about Mementos?" text.

If you only get gibberish back as text, then the issue is screenshot alignment and something that I need to investigate closer. Please try all the three modes too, to see if it is consistent across the board.

Thank you, mfilv!

Developer

Hi pal,

With the 0.4.5 update, the output should no longer be gibberish, no matter if the text is rotated or not. However, I have unfortunately still not enabled rotated texts visually due to the complexity it adds. I hope to finish that by the 0.4.6 release on Sunday.

Let me know if it works better for you now, and please try it on a text that is completely horizontal too. Thank you!

Hello, is there a new update? Thank you.

It's out, but there's no changelog yet.

Developer

Hiya,

Sorry, the changelog took a bit of time due to time constraints during the day.

It's out now: https://godnoken.itch.io/gametranslate/devlog/985575/update-048-improved-text-me...

Developer

Hi mfilv,

I'm very sorry, but the new update just released today (0.4.8) still does not handle angled text.

However, I do assure you that I will have time to add it for next Sunday. It might be added as an opt-in through the settings, because in my opinion the current box angle detection simply isn't accurate enough to be used by default.

If I'm lucky, I'll release a mid-week beta version of it that you can try.

Hello, when using automatic translation, the frames at the edges of the screen start to blink, how can I fix this?

Developer

Hello,

If you go to Configuration > General Options and scroll down to Screenshot API and select 'DXGI', this will remove the flashing. Another option (if you are using Windows 11) is to change the screenshot settings.

Look at method one at;

https://www.nerds-life.com/t/removing-yellow-border-around-screen-in-windows-11/76

Thanks, the first method helped. I still have a question, when I start the translation, Nvidia ShadowPlay stops working along with the translation, is there a way to solve this?

Developer

Great!

Oh, hmm. I don't know, I have not tried them two together. Maybe there is a way to add an exception to GameTranslate through ShadowPlay?

I could look into this next week, but it is possible that they can't run together since they are both overlay applications. I believe that it won't be a problem if you can run the internal mode though.

Yes, you are right, and I did not notice again. It's just that not all games support the internal mode for me, I just like to shoot memorable clips from games. Thanks for the quick reply.

Developer

Yep, unfortunately that's just how it is. But I will let you know if I find a way to let them co-exist without having to use the internal mode. Thank you for reporting this!

(1 edit)

Thank you, I will wait for news.I have a small request or suggestion. In my game, the text sometimes appears with a slight delay, and I noticed that in those moments when there is no text on the screen, the background of the translation window becomes dark (black). This causes a "flickering" effect, and is a bit distracting. It would be great if in such moments the background remained without darkening (or at least it could be turned off in the settings). Not necessarily

Yes, I'll definitely add that as an option. Thank you for the suggestion! Although the loading window should be more 'pulsating' rather than 'flickering', so maybe it looks different on your PC.

Sorry for bothering you. I wrote the effect incorrectly, I just didn't want the automatic translation window to be darker when there is no text . I'll wait for a new option.

Developer

Not bothering at all! Appreciate the feedback. I'll add that option for next week's update! :) Thank you

I wanted to ask, when I use deepl translation, the translation takes longer and often says Translation failed. Is there a way to fix this?

Developer

Hi mate,

The speed for DeepL is completely out of my control. What you can do is to pay for DeepL Pro, supposedly Pro users have their translation requests prioritized. I have not tried it myself so I don't actually know if it makes a big difference during both peak-time usage and non-peak-time usage.

I am not 100% that the "Translation failed" message is due to overloaded DeepL servers, but it does sound likely.

I see, thanks for the reply.

Hello, when I updated the application and when I run it it says Failed to load internal engine settings (os error 2) and also the Configuration tab does not work. How can I fix it?

Developer

Hi mate,

Oh man, okay, that's bad. The Configuration tab does not work at all (does not render anything..?)

It's a registry key bug. I'll have to sort that out tomorrow night. Thank you for letting me know. I would suggest to install 0.4.7 again until then.

As you wrote, the Configuration tab doesn't work at all. But I will wait for a solution to this problem.

Developer

Okay, thank you.

I don't think this will work, but you could try to go to the install folder and launch 'translateLocally.exe' once and then turn it off and see if that removes the error from GameTranslate.

I tried it, it didn't work.

Developer

Are you on Windows 10 or 11?

Developer

I found the issue. I am currently building the app again for a new release, it will be uploaded within an hour! :)

Thank you so much for letting me know as quick as you did! ⭐

Developer

Hi mate,

The new version is now uploaded (still named 0.4.8)

Hello, in the last update there are more scattered words in automatic translation (Ukrainian or Russian).

Also, when using Internal Translator I noticed that in the translated text often appear words that do not exist or do not make sense in the context.I didn't see this when translating DeepL.Can I ask if there will be another translator?

Hi,
I'm interested in this as well. Any new developments with other translators, online and offline? Once my free DeepL limit is used up, I'm stuck with this "Internal translator", which gives very poor translations. It would be nice to have additional online and offline translators.

Developer

Hi mate,

Can I ask which language models you use for the offline translations?

There will definitely be more options added in the future, but no update on this at the moment unfortunately.

Online options are very limited. If you know of any that provide a free limit through their API, do let me know and I will implement it. :)

Hello,

I downloaded English and Hungarian under the "internal" tab and translate from English to Hungarian. Is that what you're asking? If not, what did you mean?

I don't know many options either :), but maybe the Gemini API or Azure Translator AI could work?

I do like the program a lot, but when the free limit runs out, the standard 'internal' one remains, which gives very poor translations. If there's a way to fix that, it would be perfect, if possible, of course :)

Thanks for the info, I was just curious if there's been any progress on this.

Developer (1 edit)

Hi,

Yes, that was indeed my question. The English to Hungarian model is unfortunately one of the worst performers of all available models.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will look into them both!

Hi,

I had a feeling that would be your answer. It's pretty noticeable, unfortunately :(
Regardless, thank you for the information and for looking into my suggestion :)

Hi,

Any chance of a Custom API option being added later?

Besides the Gemini API and Azure Translator AI API I mentioned, I also found some APIs on https://rapidapi.com/search/Translation?sortBy=ByRelevance, like Lingvanex Translate or Just Translated, which offer free monthly limits, similar to DeepL. These could also serve as alternatives when the DeepL limit is hit.

Developer

Hi mate,

Yes, a Custom API option is being worked on and may be released as early as tomorrow :)

Thank you for the suggestions. I've looked around at different APIs and most do offer a free limit, but most seem to not offer a default rate limit. Instead the user has to set the limit themselves, which in some cases isn't straightforward for non-tech-savvy people. I'm not too keen on implementing APIs as such due to risk of having users blow way past their limit and blaming it on GameTranslate. Of course there are many things I could do to prevent this from happening, but it would need some careful consideration and be thoroughly tested.

Hi,

Yes, that's a valid and understandable point.
Either way, thanks for the Custom API and your effort, and sorry for bugging you so much.

Developer

Hey pal,

With that said, I definitely still plan to implement them at some point, but it may take some time yet.

And no, absolutely do not be sorry! I always encourage feedback, suggestions and wishes. Very grateful for your time. :)

Developer

Heya,

I have just implemented this! If you have the time to test this out, there is now a 0.49_beta version available for download.

If you have any feedback or suggestions, please shoot! I am not super familiar with using APIs so maybe I have missed something obvious.

Cheers!

Hi,

I'm definitely going to give it a try and test it out. Thanks a lot!

Hi,

I've tried it, and here's what happened:

  1. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the Gemini API to work. I tried pasting the code into the Key-Value fields, but I wasn't successful. The Body part couldn't be interpreted. (I put the prompt in place of "text" and didn't leave what was in the code.)

    This is the code:

    curl "<a href="<a href="https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/models/gemini-2.5-flash:generateContent">https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/models/gemini-2.5-flash:generateContent</a>"><a href="https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/models/gemini-2.5-flash:generateContent</a>">https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/models/gemini-2.5-flash:generateContent</a></a>" \ -H "x-goog-api-key: $GEMINI_API_KEY" \ -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \ -X POST \ -d '{ "contents": [ { "parts": [ { "text": "Explain how AI works in a few words" } ] } ] }'

If I just messed up and it should actually work, that's fine. But if not, maybe it'd be great if you only had to provide the key and there was a dedicated field for the prompt.

  2. I also tested with Microsoft Azure AI, but I couldn't get this one to work either. I looked into it here: Use Azure AI Translator APIs and here: Quickstart: Azure AI Translator REST APIs. Again, something is wrong with the Body section. It showed this error: "Error: Request failed: 400 Bad Request - {"error":{"code":400074,"message":"The body of the request is not valid JSON."}}"

  3. I tried a few APIs from rapidapi.com. I couldn't get them to work either. There was one among those I tried that I couldn't get working because it required input_text, but the program deleted this "_" and it didn't work out. However, apart from that one, with the others (about 2 or 3 of them), I managed to get the translation to display within the program itself when I clicked the 'Test Custom API' button, but it only worked inside the program. When I ran the Desktop mode and selected text, it didn't work. It showed: "Request failed: 400 Bad Request - {"err":"Bad data.","result":""}
  4. I managed to run Ollama models, for example: zongwei/gemma3-translator, but apart from that, unfortunately, I couldn't find any that were suitable for translation. All of them resulted in poor translations or translated nonsense. But at least this one worked :) Obviously, the program isn't at fault here; I guess I just need to find one that works for me.
  5. There were no issues with LibreTranslate. It worked and was fast, but unfortunately, its translation quality was on par with or worse than the 'Internal' one. But at least this one also worked :)

Perhaps I made a mistake and messed things up, which is why they didn't function. I'm not sure, but that's what I experienced, and I should add I'm not an expert in this area. :)

Nonetheless, thanks for all your hard work. :)

Developer

Hi mate,

As explained in the update post, increase the y & and x threshould values until it works for you. If the maximum value still does not make it connect, please do let me know.

Yes I saw it, or I'm doing something wrong, but putting different values doesn't change anything, still scattered words.

Developer

Are you using Tesseract or RapidOCR as the OCR engine?

RapidOCR

Developer

Okay. I would suggest reverting back to 0.4.7 again until we can get this fixed.

But just to confirm, you have tested the exact same text using RapidOCR and got very different results between 0.4.7 and 0.4.8?

What resolution do you have your game set to?

I wanted to install 0.4.7 and test, but after starting the translator and enabling any kind of translation pops up a bunch of Crash Reports.

And so I played in 1920x1080 Borderless.

Developer

So you were using 0.4.7 before 0.4.8 came out, it worked fine, and now after installing 0.4.7 again you can't use it at all..? No idea what is happening there.

When you say crash reports, do you mean GameTranslate crash reports or something else? If they are GameTranslate's, please do click 'Send report' on it. If it is something else, I'd very much appreciate a screenshot of the crash report window.

Thank you for the information.

(1 edit)

I can't click “Send report” because a new Crash Report window keeps popping up, but I tried to click.

That's what it looks like on the screenshot:

Developer

I see. Are you by any chance trying to use a font that is not one of the standard fonts? If so, try one of the fonts that come with the app and see if that works.

Developer

Hi,

Regarding translators - Yes, there are most definitely plans to provide more translation options. Can't give you an ETA at the moment though. :)

Developer (1 edit)

Hi,

I can confirm that I have encountered the 'scattered words' bug myself now by using your example image. I believe that this happens because the font is very big and has fairly wide spaces between characters. I believe this issue already existed in 0.4.7 but was masked by the 0.4.7 text line merging algorithm. I will look at it more closely and get it fixed for 0.4.9
Until then, I suggest making your game's window smaller, or switch back to 0.4.7 or use Tesseract instead.

Thank you!

Thanks for the reply, hope it works out for you, we'll look forward to the update.

Developer

Hiya,

This should be fixed in 0.4.9 that I released earlier today. I will post the changelog tomorrow. Let me know if you still have problems!
