Hello, in the last update there are more scattered words in automatic translation (Ukrainian or Russian).

Also, when using Internal Translator I noticed that in the translated text often appear words that do not exist or do not make sense in the context.I didn't see this when translating DeepL.Can I ask if there will be another translator?

Hi,
I'm interested in this as well. Any new developments with other translators, online and offline? Once my free DeepL limit is used up, I'm stuck with this "Internal translator", which gives very poor translations. It would be nice to have additional online and offline translators.

Hi mate,

Can I ask which language models you use for the offline translations?

There will definitely be more options added in the future, but no update on this at the moment unfortunately.

Online options are very limited. If you know of any that provide a free limit through their API, do let me know and I will implement it. :)

Hello,

I downloaded English and Hungarian under the "internal" tab and translate from English to Hungarian. Is that what you're asking? If not, what did you mean?

I don't know many options either :), but maybe the Gemini API or Azure Translator AI could work?

I do like the program a lot, but when the free limit runs out, the standard 'internal' one remains, which gives very poor translations. If there's a way to fix that, it would be perfect, if possible, of course :)

Thanks for the info, I was just curious if there's been any progress on this.

Hi,

Yes, that was indeed my question. The English to Hungarian model is unfortunately one of the worst performers of all available models.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will look into them both!

Hi,

I had a feeling that would be your answer. It's pretty noticeable, unfortunately :(
Regardless, thank you for the information and for looking into my suggestion :)

Hi,

Any chance of a Custom API option being added later?

Besides the Gemini API and Azure Translator AI API I mentioned, I also found some APIs on https://rapidapi.com/search/Translation?sortBy=ByRelevance, like Lingvanex Translate or Just Translated, which offer free monthly limits, similar to DeepL. These could also serve as alternatives when the DeepL limit is hit.

Hi mate,

Yes, a Custom API option is being worked on and may be released as early as tomorrow :)

Thank you for the suggestions. I've looked around at different APIs and most do offer a free limit, but most seem to not offer a default rate limit. Instead the user has to set the limit themselves, which in some cases isn't straightforward for non-tech-savvy people. I'm not too keen on implementing APIs as such due to risk of having users blow way past their limit and blaming it on GameTranslate. Of course there are many things I could do to prevent this from happening, but it would need some careful consideration and be thoroughly tested.

Hi,

Yes, that's a valid and understandable point.
Either way, thanks for the Custom API and your effort, and sorry for bugging you so much.

Hey pal,

With that said, I definitely still plan to implement them at some point, but it may take some time yet.

And no, absolutely do not be sorry! I always encourage feedback, suggestions and wishes. Very grateful for your time. :)

Heya,

I have just implemented this! If you have the time to test this out, there is now a 0.49_beta version available for download.

If you have any feedback or suggestions, please shoot! I am not super familiar with using APIs so maybe I have missed something obvious.

Cheers!

Hi,

I'm definitely going to give it a try and test it out. Thanks a lot!

Hi,

I've tried it, and here's what happened:

  1. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the Gemini API to work. I tried pasting the code into the Key-Value fields, but I wasn't successful. The Body part couldn't be interpreted. (I put the prompt in place of "text" and didn't leave what was in the code.)

    This is the code:

    curl "<a href="<a href="https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/models/gemini-2.5-flash:generateContent">https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/models/gemini-2.5-flash:generateContent</a>"><a href="https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/models/gemini-2.5-flash:generateContent</a>">https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/models/gemini-2.5-flash:generateContent</a></a>" \ -H "x-goog-api-key: $GEMINI_API_KEY" \ -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \ -X POST \ -d '{ "contents": [ { "parts": [ { "text": "Explain how AI works in a few words" } ] } ] }'

If I just messed up and it should actually work, that's fine. But if not, maybe it'd be great if you only had to provide the key and there was a dedicated field for the prompt.

  2. I also tested with Microsoft Azure AI, but I couldn't get this one to work either. I looked into it here: Use Azure AI Translator APIs and here: Quickstart: Azure AI Translator REST APIs. Again, something is wrong with the Body section. It showed this error: "Error: Request failed: 400 Bad Request - {"error":{"code":400074,"message":"The body of the request is not valid JSON."}}"

  3. I tried a few APIs from rapidapi.com. I couldn't get them to work either. There was one among those I tried that I couldn't get working because it required input_text, but the program deleted this "_" and it didn't work out. However, apart from that one, with the others (about 2 or 3 of them), I managed to get the translation to display within the program itself when I clicked the 'Test Custom API' button, but it only worked inside the program. When I ran the Desktop mode and selected text, it didn't work. It showed: "Request failed: 400 Bad Request - {"err":"Bad data.","result":""}
  4. I managed to run Ollama models, for example: zongwei/gemma3-translator, but apart from that, unfortunately, I couldn't find any that were suitable for translation. All of them resulted in poor translations or translated nonsense. But at least this one worked :) Obviously, the program isn't at fault here; I guess I just need to find one that works for me.
  5. There were no issues with LibreTranslate. It worked and was fast, but unfortunately, its translation quality was on par with or worse than the 'Internal' one. But at least this one also worked :)

Perhaps I made a mistake and messed things up, which is why they didn't function. I'm not sure, but that's what I experienced, and I should add I'm not an expert in this area. :)

Nonetheless, thanks for all your hard work. :)

Hi mate,

As explained in the update post, increase the y & and x threshould values until it works for you. If the maximum value still does not make it connect, please do let me know.

Yes I saw it, or I'm doing something wrong, but putting different values doesn't change anything, still scattered words.

Are you using Tesseract or RapidOCR as the OCR engine?

RapidOCR

Okay. I would suggest reverting back to 0.4.7 again until we can get this fixed.

But just to confirm, you have tested the exact same text using RapidOCR and got very different results between 0.4.7 and 0.4.8?

What resolution do you have your game set to?

I wanted to install 0.4.7 and test, but after starting the translator and enabling any kind of translation pops up a bunch of Crash Reports.

And so I played in 1920x1080 Borderless.

So you were using 0.4.7 before 0.4.8 came out, it worked fine, and now after installing 0.4.7 again you can't use it at all..? No idea what is happening there.

When you say crash reports, do you mean GameTranslate crash reports or something else? If they are GameTranslate's, please do click 'Send report' on it. If it is something else, I'd very much appreciate a screenshot of the crash report window.

Thank you for the information.

(1 edit)

I can't click “Send report” because a new Crash Report window keeps popping up, but I tried to click.

That's what it looks like on the screenshot:

I see. Are you by any chance trying to use a font that is not one of the standard fonts? If so, try one of the fonts that come with the app and see if that works.

Hi,

Regarding translators - Yes, there are most definitely plans to provide more translation options. Can't give you an ETA at the moment though. :)

Hi,

I can confirm that I have encountered the 'scattered words' bug myself now by using your example image. I believe that this happens because the font is very big and has fairly wide spaces between characters. I believe this issue already existed in 0.4.7 but was masked by the 0.4.7 text line merging algorithm. I will look at it more closely and get it fixed for 0.4.9
Until then, I suggest making your game's window smaller, or switch back to 0.4.7 or use Tesseract instead.

Thank you!

Thanks for the reply, hope it works out for you, we'll look forward to the update.

Hiya,

This should be fixed in 0.4.9 that I released earlier today. I will post the changelog tomorrow. Let me know if you still have problems!
