Your mind is being controlled to do the things your hate making you be on the edge of doing something you will regret for the rest of your life. The Flesh (the boss) is the one responsbile for this and it is up to you to find the armor of God to use against the Flesh and bring peace back to you.

Very nice game and you managed to implement so many things for such a little time! It was very well polished, I liked how you gain power as you progress, feels very rewarding!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! thanks for playing :D

Awesome game! The mechanic is strong, the music and effects fit perfectly with this retro art style and the controls are really responsive. I enjoyed it a lot. Great work.

Developer(+2)

Sweet! Thanks and thank you for playing :D

and if you add a step counter see what happens 7v7?
Submitted(+1)

eeeeyy! you are very daring, When you start it is a death, death and math xD and when you finish it follows a speedrun gg (the boss is easy to kill if you stay in a corner xD)
Developer(+2)

I see what your saying. Thanks for playing! :)

Submitted(+2)

Very fun game, and great progression! I really appreciate not having to start over after dying.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! We wanted to make sure players didn't feel like progress was lost for the purposes of the jam at least ;)

Submitted(+1)

Very polished and satisfying. However, I think I was missing something-- the arrows would show an enemy moving a certain direction, but I would still be damaged anyway? Great job, though!

Developer(+2)

That's an interesting idea I hadn't considered. Thanks for the suggestion and thank you for playing! 😀

the victory music was sweet

Developer(+1)

thanks :)

The level of polish in this is fantastic.  Everything has feed back, clickily buttons, squishy characters, lots of little details that make it feel polished and put together.  The mini map, the transitions when you die, you guys kinda got it all, it feels like a complete game.  Also, can we talk about that cover art?  Way to give all us 90s kids retro nostalgia!

Developer(+1)

Nice! It's always fun to hit the nostalgia bone and when get the reference too. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+2)

This game has a very polished feel. You did a great job! Although I too missed a way to wait out one turn and have the enemy get closer before attacking.

Developer

Thanks! I hear you and I'll be thinking of a way in addition to triggering events such as breaking things and opening things to trigger enemies to move without you moving while still keeping the Roguelike inspired combat we aimed for.

Thanks for playing :)

Absolutely enjoyed this one. Although, it was a bit slow in the beginning when I kept getting defeated by enemies and had to gradually slowly open up the paths. It became super satisfying to get all the upgrades. I wasn't sure what the point of revealing the paths on holes was as by that time I could already walk over holes, guessing I just collected that before it was intended, so if that's the case, bonus points for also including sequence breaking in your game :). The only bit of feedback is once I got the chest plate, the small hearts would only replenish half a heart when I was expecting them to still replenish a full one, but understand its still replenishing one hit point.

Appreciated all the details you put in this game, such as the scrolling room transitions, the detailed map, different music tracks. Also felt rewarded for picking up all the upgrades when going up against the final boss.

Overall, awesome game. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and the detailed feedback.  I totally agree that the heart drops should always replenish a full heart regardless if you have the breastplate or not and I'll be sure to implement that post jam. The revelation of the hidden floors really helps mainly in like 2 rooms where the gaps are too big for the shoes to work but I agree we should have more places where it can be even more useful.

Thanks again for playing! 😀

Really nice and polished game! The slightly curved screen gave it a nice effect. I also appreciate you not blowing my ear holes and adding volume sliders. The mechanics were nice too. Well done :)

Developer(+1)

Sorry that the music starts so loud but glad the sliders helped with that. Thanks for playing 😀

Submitted(+1)

Oh no they weren't loud at all which is why i mentioned it. Almost all other games are suuper loud

Submitted(+3)

Such a fun game! I do wish you could fight the boss right away though, so that you could try to beat it with as little as possible. As is, I absolutely crushed the temptation of the flesh.

Developer(+1)

That was the original idea and we debated for quite a while on whether to include that or not. Ultimately decided to require all the pieces really mainly because we were running out of time to consider the possible permutations.

Thanks for playing!

Intro music was awesome (as is the rest of it!)!!!!

I really liked the art and the CRT monitor style curve you gave it.

Favourite moment was sending a skeleton to his doom through a trap :P

Not being able to wait a turn was a bit frustrating, not sure if I missed some other mechanic there, but felt like if you ended up 1 space away from a monster, you were doomed to take at least 1 hit

Developer(+1)

you didn't miss it and I strongly considered it but couldn't solve for preventing people from cheesing the game. However, it could be an additional feature of the shield in the future 😉 ... thanks for playing  :)

Submitted(+2)

Absolutely the best I've played so far.

If this was a game being sold I wouldn't think it was a jam game, with a few more levels and a few more traps this is ready to be published.

Loved how the equipment actually shows on the player and how equipments aren't just stat bonuses.

Developer(+1)

That was like day one work (making sure the armor shows on the player) as I like not only becoming stronger but looking the part too. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+2)

Great Game! It felt really polished and intuitive since we did not have to use much buttons. The game offered so much of those little things that make a game so much better. Even something as simple as giving the player the option to adjust the sounds in the game itself is already such a small but convenient feature to have. Great Job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Thank you for playing :)

Submitted(+2)

WOW ! This is possibly one of the best entries for this jam I've played so far (and I've played a lot of them)! It was extremely engaging. I loved about everything in this game : gameplay, audio, visuals, how you got stronger each time you respawned, how polished the level design was, the fact that the dungeon did not reset and the upgrades which change everything,... Absolutely WOW

I also know which chapter I'm going to read next in The Book ;)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Thank you for playing and amen! :D

Definitely had fun playing the game, solid visuals, atmosphere and music, the main gameplay loop was also pretty nice. The only note I have is, currently there is no possible way I don't think to avoid getting damaged at all, no matter how well you play, and it might not be much of an issue, but I would love to master a game like that and outplay the enemies to perfection.

Developer

That is an interesting gameplay you bring to out table. Their technically is but it requires a specific equipment and sometimes having to reset a room to get the enemies in the right position however we have discussed how one might have more options to get the enemies in the right position without having to reset so often. This is something we will revisit post-jam to see what might we be able to do so that those who want to do a no-damage run can actually have the opportunity to do so.

Thanks for playing!

This was super fun!

Loved the artstyle, the music, the mechanics and the music.

I really enjoy rougelike and dungeon crawler games. This was really enjoyable!

Amazing job duud!

Developer

Thanks! Yay, the roguelike element was recognized (though to be fair it leans more towards strategy than roguelike but that's something I want to improve on post-jam) thank you for playing!

Submitted(+2)

This was really good! I love the dungeon exploring, and collecting the powerful items. 1 problem is that before getting your first item, you sort of have to grind a lot which is kinda meh, but then, after the first item (I got chestplate), you just steamroll your way through the enemies and it was really fun. The audio suits the game really well, giving a sort of retro feel, along with the pixel artstyle which was really well-made. The boss is also well-done, though it was really just stepping on a hole and then out the hole, it was still really fun. The journey before the boss and the satisfaction after seeing the boss is amazing. Overall good entry!

Developer

It looks like we need to find a better way to convey both the Roguelike and Strategy elements of the game since avoiding enemies is completely a viable option but it seems like the desire to clean house is a strong one with many. This is something I'll be thinking hard about to avoid that sense of frustrations or tediousness in the early game.

Thanks for playing!

Very cool game !

Not much to say in terms of feedback. It's a pretty solid game. I just wish it was longer, but that's not a critic, more of a praise, because I had a good time playing.

Very good job :)

Developer

Thank you! :D and thanks for playing
